Penny Model 1 error (extra E)
azda replied to Dutchgreener's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I rest my case -
All the talk of 1860/59 got me thinking, how rare is just a normal 1860, there seems to be more over 59 just lately and not a peep on a straight 60

Penny Model 1 error (extra E)

What I find strange is the comment "if they find the variety in Krause" Krause is An American book which don't list a lot of British varieties, shouldn't they be using major British catalogues as well, or is it the case if it's not listed in an American book it simply doesn't exist in their eyes? -

Whether PCGS are good enough to recognise the variety is another ball game -
Customs charges - how do they work ?
azda replied to secret santa's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
As with Nordles post we get hit with anything outside the EU with charges and we're allowed up to 22, everything depends on how it's packages. For instance if a coin is sent in an evelope (suitably protected of course) then German customs tend not to open it as it looks like a letter, if it's packaged in a box then it will be opened and checked -
A 1918KN Penny here from someone calling themselves Northampton-coins. I wonder how he stays in business If this is the sort of grading he uses throughout his coin business. 361256131399 Oh and it's rare apparently, but Check out his grade compared to the actual grade. I'm confused
-
And a welcome Matteo from me.
-
I actually blocked someone for bidding 34 times at £1 increment, I thought he was taking the piss and trying to ruin my auction. As you can tell, i'm not a fan of the small increment bidding
-
Peter, really sorry to hear this news, I know you loved Mrs Peter very much. A sad day even for us who only knew her through your life stories on the forum. Hang in there buddy
-
If it's in eBay for £3500 there will be 10% fees. His price is obviously reflecting the additional 10%
-
Eye appeal is a factor that any book cannot price, only to someone with good judgement. You're heading in the right direction
-
And a welcome Dan from me. Halfpennies As you say Are a little undervalued and you can pick up some nice Victoria bun heads in high grade for £100. As always though, feel free to ask a question If you Are unsure about a purchase or otherwise, just don't overstretch yourself buying a coin. Happy collecting

Testing myself on Freeman Varieties
azda replied to loose54's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I would also get a copy of the Michael Gouby Book on the same subject, ist has been updated since the Freeman book, i don't know If Mr Gouby still has any avaliable, but its definately one worth buying If you intend to collect Pennies. -
The REV is a bit ropey. In reference to the original coin I posted about, I think the Baldwins price is about where it should be, His £880 price tag is a bit silly, a better one went through Spink in 2013 for £550 hammer
-
And he also uses the descriptions, he used the previous Spink sale milled 6d I was interested in and the Eddie VI 6d from the slaney sale. He could at least take his own pictures.
-
A bit ouchy from the Baldwins price of £380 http://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/baldwins/catalogue-id-srbal10026/lot-d18c896a-8f57-4438-b674-a5090119e40d And the ebay coin 171951836983
-
I wouldn't crack it out, but it certainly looks like a raised dot too me
-
Coming second on that one with a bid of £1500 still makes me wonder why I didn't bid a bit higher. It seems very cheap with hindsight, but then the world was looking quite rosy at the time, prices for coins were edging up slowly, everyone was making money and there wasn't a financial crisis on the horizon. Go forward 5 or 6 years and the price of a 60/59 to the collector had doubled, whilst half the banking industry was spending its spare cash on changes of corporate underwear. Go forward another 5 or 6 years and the price has trebled from 2003, all paid for by government QE.It males you Wonder then at £4200 for the Spink coin plus the juice how much it will be listed for on the CC website

First post! Hello, and coin advice needed pls. Thanks!
azda replied to Hakan's topic in Beginners area
I would think someone has just been playing around with some counterstamps on an old coin. Welcome to the forum -
Even so, 1 bid gets it for £65 cheaper than the website, it's also been there for several weeks at that price
-
Well i have to say, it's a First for me to See ebay being cheaper than the Website 171949393571 Same coin here http://www.simonwilliscoins.com/products/coin-details.aspx?id=S4012

The Pattern pennies of Joseph Moore - recognising obverse types
azda replied to secret santa's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Dave, I wouldn't say I'm a collector of this series - I've bought a few on a bit of an ad hoc basis but, as you can see, I'm pretty ignorant about these coins compared to the circulation coins. I'm certainly going to be a lot more wary about buying them in future. You learn something new in here everyday Rash, it keeps you on your toes. -
The Pattern pennies of Joseph Moore - recognising obverse types
azda replied to secret santa's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Agreed, and as Rashenly is an obvious collector of this series it's obvious too see that even the best of us still have something to learn
