At the end of the day, the grade and price Are both down to you As a buyer, If you have doubts and it starts getting expensive then i'd personally walk away from it, but another important Factor i take into consideration is the eye appeal of the coin, does it look good, easy on the eye, If so, then i'd pay slightly more. Grade, price and eye appeal Are all equally important to me when deciding to Buy or not.

As i said Dave, with overgrading the eventual hopeful outcome is that someone Will pay the higher end Book price, but As we can see not everyone is dumb As some sellers hope. Perhaps MP reputation is eventually catching up with him.
-
Lol, what can I say. I subscribe to coin news monthly and Mr P' auction descriptions always stick out like a sore thumb I assume he was looking for double the eventual price with the GVF grading, so not all ebayers are stupid when it comes to grading

What should I expect to pay for coins in my wish-list?
azda replied to HeavyT's topic in Beginners area
Wise words Nonmortuus, you are already learning. We all make mistakes, (apart from Rob ) Buying upward of EF is another good choice, unless it's a rarity and only Low grades exist. As always, advice is always free, i still ask questions when unsure about something, so it's not just newbies, keep up the good work -
Leaving grade aside for a minute, was it genuine?I believe so

I see Mr Platt is in coin news this month for the similar reasons he's talked about on this thread. I wonder If he'll threaten them with lawyers

Judging by your profile forum picture you already have a Gothic crown? Or is that just something you picked up and used? -
Tone/Patina, yes he probabaly would. As i said above, If it's not for selling then i would personally leave it be for a while and do some properes Research first before deciding on getting it removed, it could bugger a nice coin, although it's really Sad too see it like it is, without the mount it would have been a cracking coin.

If your looking at UNC grades which MS is and CGS80 then I hope you have about 10k spare.. The gothic crown alone would be 3-5k. This one was £3600 hammer, add 20% juice on tophttp://www.londoncoins.co.uk/img.php?a=149&l=1896&f=o&s=l -
The damage has already been Done with the soldering, that won't ever go away. The lettering will be obliterated underneath the mount, it May have been a different story had it been on the rim
-
Having it removed or not it has still devalued the coin no end, from say £1800+ to about £800 if you're lucky. It's a shame as it looked a really decent coin. If it's not for sale i'd leave as is so not to damage it further

The coin was graded by someone at Baldwins as GF/NVF, you paid for it's Rarity and eye appeal., but i still think it was a good purchase from me, I still think the guy at baldwins was selling it short, but you can't argue with years of experience i suppose, although i've seen some of the coins they've graded and sold at their major auctions -
It came to me from Michael Freeman graded "cleaned" VF. I kind of agree with you at AVF, but you know how it goes...it's VF if you are selling, and AVF if you are buying...Ha,Ha. I hate grading by the way! LOL... Let's start a debate on grading (only joking)
-
Yes, I find their catagories before milled pretty poor and should be reworked quite a bit, it's quite poor and such a large date span between milled hammered and further back
-
This was his email reply to me when I asked him about his grading Buy the coin and take it to spink or send it to stacks Bowers and ask them to grade it, if you're not happy with the result then I will give you your money back, firstly I'm not a professional photographer! put your money where your mouth is! I have years of grading experience with this type of coin, the coin even displays some original mint lustre which is again not evident in the pictures, its funny how 99% of people who buy my coins on ebay and In person Including people like the famous Dave The Moneyer amongst other notable and professional numismatists are thoroughly satisfied with my grading, You are the only person who has ever complained and you've never bought a coin from me! Have a look at the very best examples, even in a spink catalogue, then you may understand the quality of this coin, The coin in many regards is in an as struck condition. struck slightly weak in places. It is extraordinarily scarce in this grade. If you have a look at the other Edward VI Shilling I have up for sale on ebay, which is the usual grade for type and a good example for Issue, then it might help you understand these debased coins a little better! I will help you out, take a look at Halls Hammered Coins If you would like a lesson on grading English Hammered coins, he's an Established Dealer and expert in grading English hammered coins, I think you have a lot to learn!!

He's possibly added the wrong image for 1 of the coins. Email him and point it out so he can hopefully rectify it before someone bids -
The risk of injuring someone just is'nt Worth it, they'd sue your ass off here. I want to film the Allianz arena (Bayern Munich stadium) but i'd certainly not do it during a match, it would be another 6am alarm call. The responsibility is in the hands of the owner, i certainly know my limit of what i will and will not do.

I think you'd Need to ask permission for places such As Buckingham Palace etc. uninhabited ruins should'nt be such a problem, i tend to stay clear of built Up areas in general incase the drone takes a mind of its own and flies away (it has been known) the rotor blades could cause serious injury should it fall from the sky and hit someone, another reason to have some Sort of insurance.
-
They have a new drone now with a 4k camera which i'm hoping to buy, they will exchange the CG02 camera which is the one i have plus you add 299 euros. Wish i had waited 2-3 weeks longer and i could have bought the whole new drone for just 100 more than i paid for mine
-
I prefer going out in the morning Jerry, a lot more Peace and quiet and no one standing by your side constantly asking questions, although when walking towards the Schloss with drone in hand the police passed me but never said anything, people can be really Quite picky here and i'd rather not have the hassle to explain that its just a hobby rather than me intruding or being voyeuristic, i Had 1 guy moan about me flying ist a the lake even though i'd been there a Full 30 mins before him and was already flying it before he'd gone into the water for a swim, this was at 6.30am.
-
The Camera is fixed to a gimbal which clips underneath the drone. The DJI drones which have been around longer use gopros which do wobble slightly and have a curvuture in the shots, whereas the camera in the yuneec has a relatively straight Horizont line. I'm bringing it to Scotland with me next year in May and i'm thinking of renting a camper van next Year for a week or base myself in Kenmore. This is a picture i took of the Schloss
