the pennies of 1922 and 1926
RLC35 replied to Mr T's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Here is the 1922, with Trident Dot...but it is slabbed, so I can't do a ring test. I found a second 1922 "Dot" in my circulated coin box. pics below. I tested it with a standard 1922...both have the same ring, and both are 9.5g in weight. -

You can take the slab number, and verify it with the grading company. -

4054A 1926 Penny of highest rarity

Does Michael know who the owner of the coin is? btw...I can't see that the index finger is any shorter than the regular coin. Is there another identifier? -
Thanks Peter... Just saw the posts about Mrs Peter... Hope she's doing well...All the best to you too... A belated Happy Birthday Gary!

She can't remember but we have 2 cats that like to sleep on the stairs and can be dodgy to work around. Just got her home she is a bit groggy but pleased to be home. I will spoil her rotten this weekend. Glad your wife is home Peter. She will mend better, at home, in a familiar setting. Best wishes for her speedy recovery.

US Liberty Head Gold Double Eagle
RLC35 replied to HeavyT's topic in Enquiries about Non British coins
I think that would be a MS62 or maybe MS63 by PCGS or NGC. btw Pete, I think that mark may just be a bag mark. Gold coins seen to mark easier due to them being relatively soft, and the $20 Double Eagle being so heavy. -
I had a really bad experience with the sellers of that coin...about the coin, and their "private listing" type bidding. It got really ugly fast! I have tried to find a close up picture of the lower half of the reverse of that coin they sent me, but I must have deleted it, as I cannot find it. In the close up picture the coin was a different color than the auction picture, and did not have the sheen shown in the sale picture. Just a FYI.... Still a nice strike.

It does appear to have been cleaned, but still a very nice example. The coin will probably re-tone in time...

MAGNIFICENT open 3... Best I've ever seen... It is a really nice open 3, but their is at least one out there nicer....Michael Gouby has a uncirculated example!

Yes it did. Thanks for bidding!

Thanks Bernie. Their are a whole lot of followers listed. I assume they are waiting till the last few minutes to bid. Somehow I thought if the item did not end with a Buy It Now then it might fetch lot more. The other mules on ebay are struggling to fetch £600 but they are TB/BB I put the other bid in jac, just put £650 in and turned it off. You just missed it Pete. The winner bid 25 pounds more. The coin is on its way to Surrey.

Idiots collecting Freeman numbers
RLC35 replied to argentumandcoins's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Hi Michael, Nice to know you are still following the Forum. I think we are all indebted to you for the fine references you have published over the years. I for one, use them daily. Although you are not heavily involved in collecting any more, you have been very helpful at times, to many of us, who have come to you for additional clarification on a date or type of Bronze Pennies. Thanks a lot! By the way, I am 4 years older than you! Ha,Ha. Great hearing from you, on the Forum. All the Best! Bob Crawford, Indianapolis, USA. -
Pete, Where did you find reference to that price for a closed 9 on a 1907 penny? There are 13 varieties of the 1907 Penny, but all are about the size of the 9 and location of the 7 to the bead, and none are really considered scarce.
-
Jac, I think you are right about the rarity of a overstruck number or letter. Gouby has identified and listed a great number of the overstrikes, but few have any premium assigned.
-
Dave, Here is a 1861 that I have where the "I" is overstruck somewhat different than your coin. Your example has the "front" I struck low...mine has the "front" I overstruck high.

Displaying your collection on the interweb

Nice job Paulus. It looks great! -
I have all my Pennies, and Half Pennies in Dansco Supreme Albums. I used the 34mm cut-outs for the Copper Pennies, and the 31mm cut-out sheets for 1860 and up (Bronze), pennies. They fit pretty good. Then I took a P-Touch electric label-er and used clear tape with black letters to make all the coin type labels. It makes a pretty good finished product. The coin that is hard to match up is the Farthing. The cut-outs are either too small, or too big. I chose the slightly larger cut-out sheet (21mm).

Thank you I did put a bid in this afternoon but have not heard from the seller maybe seeing what other offers he gets. Its the same coin that sold in LCA last september lot 2680 http://www.ebay.com/itm/281734462568?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 If Bernie is referring to my 1860 mule (link above), it is not the same one as the LCA Sale. My Mule is the scarcer F-8 Mule ( BB/TB), not the one listed in the LCA Sale, which is the F-9 Mule (TB/BB). If anyone on the Forum is interested, I can sell it for $1,250, postpaid to Great Britain.(up until the time someone puts a bid on it)!
