You get a vote to leave the UK in November. I thought you had already done that? Rob, We left The UK in July...not November! LOL! Our General Election is in November. When does the Scotland vote take place?

    1869 Bun….

That's a really scarce one! It is a really strong strike, but does have a odd coloring. Maybe chemically cleaned? Either it is cleaned, or his camera light setting is set wrong. Nice coin though!
  4. The penny is certainly the least rare of the three 1860 copper coins. Spink has the Farthing and Half Penny at about twice the value of the Penny. They show the Penny (EF) at 3,750, and Unc. at 6,000 (pounds). Still the Penny is not "Common!"

    New to British coins

Welcome to the Forum. I purchased many of the Dansco generic pages, and made up my own albums for farthings thru half crowns. They have coin pages with cutouts that fit most of the British Coins...and they will custom stamp the covers for you. I don't think these would help you for type sets though. Dansco will send you a brochure of all of their generic pages, and albums, so maybe you could find something. Sorry I can't be of more help. Regards,
  7. For Sale 1860 Farthing Mule, TB/BB, pretty good copy, really clear Teeth and Beads. Does have a small natural Flan Defect on the obverse, but never the less a nice example. $200, plus shipping.
  8. The U.S TPG Companies use U.S. Grading terms...VF-20...MS-61, etc.
  9. The main problem with U.S. grading of English Coins, is there are no good grading books on this side of the pond. Most Dealers here, as a result, grade their English coins, one or two grades above what they really are...doing grading by guesswork. Derek's book on grading has helped correct some of those problems...for those who have the book. The real problem is most U.S. Graders and collectors don't have Derek's book!
  10. Verdicare is pretty expensive, and I couldn't get it to do anything to remove verdigris.....

1860 Farthing Mule, TB/BB For Sale

How about this one...Narrow Date 1877... http://www.ebay.com/itm/351126699331?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I sent them a message, along with pictures of what a Narrow Date looks like, and the President of the Company wrote me back saying he was taking the information to NGC. That was two weeks ago, and he still has it for sale. BTW...every other dealer here in the states has one or two 1860's marked as mules...and they are not a mule! They don't let the truth get in the way of a good sale!

1860 Farthing Mule, TB/BB For Sale

You are right, Copper, it is the real thing. I didn't think how that sounded ( as above) when I wrote it! English was always my weakest subject! .....
  14. The only other coin I bid on was the 1869 Penny, which jumped into the stratosphere very quickly, the bidding was frantic on it!
  15. Catherine, I was one of the people on the floor bidding on that one, yesterday in Chicago. There were some nice Penny's being sold. Congratulations on a great buy!

    Wanted -1953 farthing dies 2+A

You are right Colin. When the US Mint released bags of silver dollars (1964) they had held in vaults since 1900, it had a big effect on the price of some scarce dollars. The 1903-O dollar had a price of $300, at the time, if you could even see the date (G). After the release of dollars, the price for a uncirculated 1903-O was $24.00. The coin has since recovered to $625 in MS-64. A uncirculated 1903-O was $1500 in 1963.

    Wanted -1953 farthing dies 2+A

Here is a example I found among my Farthings.
  18. Peter, you work for yourself. You can retire when you like. "Full" retirement here (USA) has gone from 65 to 67, although you can still get reduced retirement at 62. If you work past the full retirement age (67) you get a small increase for each year you work beyond retirement age. I worked till age 72, so I got a little bump for the extra 7 years I worked beyond retirement age. Constant moving goal posts here. I wanted to be a policeman when I left school. These, the fire services and teachers&civil servants certainly get a great deal. Fireman and policeman get a whale of a deal here also. They work their 20 years to qualify for retirement, then they retire, and start drawing their retirement pay. At the same time they rehire as another public employee (police, fireman, investigater, etc.), and start getting regular pay, as well as, retirement pay.

The U.S. Marine Air Wing used to fly the Harrier "Jump Jet." It's really cool how it takes off!
