Hey, i was just looking over my coins and was wondering if the really tiny ones are worth investigating in terms of value. for example i have a couple of william II silver coins that are in really nice condition, but they are soooo tiny. Also i remembered seing something about coins that have a lump on them from when they were made. Does this only make them worth loads of money if they are coins of interest or say for instance if i found this on a threepence, would it be rare and collectable? One last question. With old copper coins that have become so dirty/worn/oxidised, is it ok to clean them somehow to try and reveal some of the features, and if you can, how should you go about doing it? Whoever answers my abundance of questions will win my thanks

george III gold coin 1763

It looks bronze/copper to me. -
just thought id share some interesting discoveries i made today at the bottom of a tin- a jetton marked LVDOVICVS MAGNVS REX with a nice image of doves being released from a cage, an interesting Henri III coin dated 1586(unfortunately farely worn),and finally a small coin from napoleon I. I'll put some pictures on when my camera has charged up, if anyones interested.

anyone know what this is?

thanks peter, after researching what you said, you seem to be right. The design seems either french of flemish. In case anyones interested, jettons were apparantly used for counting, in games, as a propaganda tool or as a form of art. -

Once again, sorry for the poor quality of the photos. I'm not really sure of the story behind how this coin came to be in my posession, i think maybe a family member found it with a metal detector. Its roughly the same size as a 2 pence piece, but really thin. Pretty sure its copper. I've been trying to find out what it is, but i've just got no clue how to go about it. So i was hoping that even if nobody could name it, they could perhaps recognize enough characteristics to fit it into some kind of catagory for me. On a personal note, i really like this coin, something about it i find real intriguing. I only wish i had more luck with my own metal detector, all i find are bottle tops and rusty old nails.

I assumed it was a crown coz its the same size as all my other crowns. I really appreciate you guys taking the time to look at it and for giving me some feedback, and in particular to asda, for now i know what obverse and reverse are and how to translate roman numerals. I'm just wondering, as i noticed today that you can buy replicas of this coin, how do you tell the difference between replica and origionals: are they marked as replicas?

i reckon i probably gave you the wrong info, MDCCCXLVII you're making me learn stuff about coins azda!

sorry mate, on the obverse it says victoria dei gratia britanniar REG F D.
-
"decus et tutamen anno regni undecimo" Thanks for the help azda, let me know if theres any other details you need.

Hi, is this a gothic crown? how much do you reckon its worth? sorry if the pictures arent great, it looks a lot more silvery then that in real life. Thanks.
