Hi all, Have finally got my camera back. Would be grateful for some information regarding this coin (grade, value, history etc...). Is it a farthing? I ask because I have seen a 1799 farthing but it states'farthing' underneath Britannia. Many thanks, Robert The Chest of Coins Reverse Obverse

Hi all, I have attempted to grade this coin. I would suggest fine, mainly because as you can see some hairs on the head of the monarch and would value coin between .50p-£1. Would be grateful for your thoughts. Robert www.thechestofcoins.com

Hello all, I have attempted to grade this coin and suggest it is fair/good and has a value of about £1-2, mainly due to silver content. I believe it is a type 2 coin (.500 silver) and had a mintage of approx 16,703,597. It is roughly 16mm in diameter and weighs about 1.4g. I would be grateful to know if I am on the right track (i.e. info from books and websites). Also, could somebody let me know how to show my coins via photobucket. I have generated the code but do not seem to be able to insert it on my post. Many thanks, Robert

Hi all, I would be grateful for some information regarding these US coins I have in my collection. In particular I would appreciate some guidance on their grade, value and history. Hello all, I have attempted to grade and value this 1920 Half Crown and would be grateful to know how accurate/inaccurate my first attempt is. I would say the coin is G/VG and worth approximately £1. However, I have looked around at various examples on the net and for some it could be classified as poor, so slightly confused. Any advice would be great. Many thanks, Robert www.thechestofcoins.com

George III (penny) & 1858 Victoria coin
Rob75 replied to Rob75's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
John, Many thanks. How can I find out the different variations of a coin. Is it a case of posting on the forum or should I purchase a specialist book I.e. Spunk? For example I have a couple of the Victoria coins but would not know the difference. I do appreciate I am very new to this and it will be a steep learning curve but I am keen to find out about the coins I have been given. Not sure if I am going to sell them or not. Just trying to get initial idea of values and grades at present. Kind regards, Robert http://www.thechestofcoins.com/ -

Hello all, I would be grateful for some advice as I am a newbie to this hobby; having been given numerous coins by mother-in-law that belonged to her late husband. I have attached a photo of one of the coins in this collection and would like to know: 1. What grade a coin in this condition would be considered to be? and 2. Does it have any value? The reason I ask is because I have seen similar coins on various websites seling from .99p up to a few hundred! also, I took this and other coins along to a dealer and was offered .50p for it. I would also like to find out more information regarding the other coins I have in the collection so would like some advice with regards how to post them on this site i.e. new thread for each coin or just try to submit as many photos of the coins at once? Finally, I have been doing some research on this coin but would appreciate any information you may wish to share as I have started a website recording the coins I have been given, slow process as I have only listed one so far, but if you are interested then the address is 'www.thechestofcoins.com'. Any feedback would be appreciated (however, please note there are affiliate links on the site to Amazon). Many thanks in advance for your advice. Robert

Hello all, I am new to this forum (and coin collecting) and would be grateful for any advice you can provide. However, I apologise in advance for such a long post. I recently received a box of coins from my mother-in-law which belonged to her late husband who was an avid collector in his youth (there is quite a large collection of coins in the attic which have not been looked at for years if at all). The box contained hundreds of coins and has sparked a genuine interest in me as I have found some fascinating coins in the box, some dating back to 1703 and others which look and feel completely different to our own (UK) coins. Having never considered collecting coins I now find myself busy flicking through coin magazines and books at the local library as well as on the internet in order to find out more about each coin. The reason for this post is to ask a few questions and get some feedback as to how I propose to become more involved in the subject: 1. I would like to combine my interest in computing with my new found interest in coins to set up a website whereby a can catalogue each coin I find. So far I have written notes in a scrapbook for the coins contained in the box but believe it would be more fun to be able to add pictures and links to provide a more interactive learning environment. Will it be frowned upon if I am asking questions in the forum which will be used to further my knowledge and potentially inform the information on the website? 2. How many questions are too many when you are first starting out? 3. Is it considered bad etiquette to post on different forums? 4. Can you post pictures of coins for identification as some of the ones within the box do not have dates or words i.e. I believe they my oriental (circular with a hole in the middle) 5. Are there any specific books/journals/magazines/sites I should be reading or visiting? I have lots more questions but would be grateful for any feedback/advice you can provide. Many thanks, Robert
