How rare? 1/2 Sovereign 1862
palves replied to palves's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I have no experience on this coins. I love victorian coins and collect them by value/head. I only have a gold one and it is a common one, but I have a fair share of them. this is the first 1/2 1862 I have seen. For those who struggle to understand Portuguese, the guy came to the forum asking help to identify the coin. We have identified it as a Half Sovereign and we alert him to the fact that it might be a rare coin. Almost immediately the guy put the coin for sale in another topic. I do not know him and I have never seen the coin in hand. I will ask him for better pics. -
Any idea what is this? I came across this picture in a Portuguese forum. They claim it is a fake based on the date. But I am wondering if there is another story behind because that would be a very silly error... (This picture is not mine)
-
The coin is not mine, but apparently is gold. So either a lower quality gold or the core is not gold, just the outside layer. do not know. IF it is gold, i just do not get it...
-
Don't think it is a token. Correct size, correct weight (accurate at 0.1 gram) and it seems to be gold... So either a silly fake or a jewellery medal...

Hi all, I would like to buy one coin for all 1 penny circulation years in UNC. I have been looking on ebay and, I am guessing, because they are so cheap most years are not available or I have to do multiple purchases and will end up paying a fortune in postage... Does anyone has for sale or knows where I can buy? Thanks. PA

Hi guys, Got this one one ebay for 99cents... Any suggestion? Weight: 1.7g Size: 19mm Metal: ??

Thanks for the help! I have spent a couple of hours looking into eagles and birds, from Austria, germany... still did not manage to find this exact one. But I think we all agree that is play money and brass... PA

Hi, A friend of mine was offered this coin. I am quite suspicious about the style, namely: waves, flower, tummy, legend... even colour. Whats your opinion? thanks
-
The price asked for this coin was above 100 pounds Even before looking to the details, I advice my colleague not to buy it... too expensive for the detail and the cleaning. You are right about me comparing to the wrong coin. I have just realize that the site where I got the picture to compare with has the exact same picture for both the penny and the twopence. Blame Google and myself Thanks. PA

Ok, Thanks. I was not trying to frame anyone I advice my friend not to get it because of the details, but mostly because the price... If the moderator wishes so, he can delete the topic. Sorry about it! PA

Hi, Just want to share with you my recent acquisition... see picture here I collect Portuguese coins, but I have a crush on Victorian coins... I am trying to get one coin of each type and do not care about year. I am still missing a Gothic head, any suggestion for a coin/year (best grade for price) to get? Thanks

What could you buy with 1/3 Farthing in 1880's?

Hi, This is my last acquisition and I am very happy with it. Sorry for the picture, but the coin is so small that I struggled, the actual colour is chocolate, yum... When looking at the coin I was amazed with the detail in such small coin and I was wondering what could you actually buy at the time with 1/3 Farthing? any ideas? Thanks PA from Portugal... -
What could you buy with 1/3 Farthing in 1880's?
palves replied to palves's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Thanks for your replies... I have to say I love this little ones... Now I will be hunting for a quarter farthing. I think will be a bit trickier to get a decent one at a decent price... Cheers. PA -
Yes. I use a 3 pounds tripod and put the coin on top of something with support in the back. I have found this quite easy for lighting and no need to spend money. This said I am not a Pro and this quality is fine for me. thanks.

Thanks for helping. I have been looking for similar toy coins and this one has far better details than all the others I have seen. Different metals, etc. A friend also pointed out to me that it could be a pattern, but again I am lost... Cheers. PA

palves posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Hi, I have bought these medals for a symbolic value. I find them quite amazing in detail and colour, but I have no idea of what they are, quantities, market value, designer, producer... Pictures here Any help? Thanks PA -
Hi. A friend of mine offered me today this coin. He said he got it from an internet seller together with other coins and he has no interest in it. The seller told him it was a English medieval hammered coin... and this is as much as I know. Any idea of what it is and its value? Thanks in advance. PA
-
I was about to buy it, but then I reliased that it is very heavy and postage would be quite expensive. PA

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will try to get a really cheap Lada I will come back to you guys, when it comes to more expensive coins. Thanks a million. PA

Hi there, As I said in one of my previous posts, I collect mostly Portuguese coins, but I have a crush for Victorian coins, particularly the coppers. I would like to have one of each face value and, in the long run, one of each type. Any year is fine with me, so I tend to go for the cheapest ones... Does this makes any sense? any advice? So far I have 4 (farthing, penny, half penny, 3 pence) so still a long way to go. This is my favourite one, with a beautiful patina. In 3 weeks time, I will be in Bristol and Sheffield, can anyone advice me good numismatic shops to visit? I am also willing to swap coins, if any of you is interested. PA Sorry but English is not my first language.

Last week, I was in this guy shop and had this exact same beauty on my hand... It is just beautiful, still tried to bargain a bit and manage to get a nice price, but still a bit too much for my pocket. Crown 1820
