Obviously, I wouldn't want to diss anyone in the absence of solid evidence but, I do think it worth pointing out, the history suddenly goes from loads of car parts to wreath crowns. Have you also noted how each example looks exactly the same? Same soapy surface. Same wear to the bust. If I'm wrong I apologise unreservedly. Maybe they're kosher. I don't know... Yeah I noticed they are the only coins he has sold. The 1930 to 1934's are sold on a few websites in China as a 5 coin set or individually. They are about £15 delivered for the set or £2 each. None of the websites have any 1927, 1928, 1929 or 1936 for sale, which also backs up why his 'Uncle' didn't have the more common 1927 or 1928. They can also be bought individually in 0.900 silver for about £40.

Looks like someone has been stung! Seller has sold all 5 of the 1930 to 1934 modern reproduction Crowns and got genuine piece prices. He has received positive feedback for 4 so far. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1934-George-V-Wreath-Crown-coin-collectable-/151396834709?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item233ff45d95&nma=true&si=WYI%252BBnYHSeo7A2fyYwvGtmtJlwo%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

I have found a second example of an 1847 Farthing with the 1 overstruck with an inverted 1, giving the impression of a Roman 1. Has this variety been documented anywhere?
-
There's a whole load of new posts just uploaded on my phone that are days old...could be my reception?Anyway, that's got to be a normal inverted 1 over 1, surely? Yeah, inverted 1 over 1. (I mentioned that in the op)

I finally found another specimen with no damage, a lot clearer

Thanks guys, I did get a couple of coins, they were from London coin auction last weekend. I'm not sure how long they normally take to post the auction lots but I will post pics when they arrive. -
National trust - anyone else out there members?
just.me replied to copper123's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
I have been an on/off member for many years now. I too enjoy the old ruins and usually alternate between the National Trust and Historic Scotland. Historic Scotland is more ruins and stone circles rather than gardens and furnished stately homes, but they also have Edinburgh and Sterling castle both of which I enjoy visiting. I was over in Ireland for the holidays and so chose the National trust this year as the membership includes the Irish attractions. -

What a fantastic collection, good to hear that she has an interest in them, hopefully she will add to the collection. Thanks for sharing the images. (they look more gold than copper ) -
1870 is quite a common date and I wouldn't say any of the date widths would be rare as such, certainly the 11 and 13 are scarcer than the middle widths but the 11 teeth might be rarer than the 13. as said previously, there are few who collect the date width varieties so any premium on prices depending on the date width would be relatively small I would guess. (I am one who does collect the widths). Some may collect the narrowest and widest as the difference is more easily seen in hand. A quick search on eBay threw up a few wide dated either at 12 1/2 or 13 teeth http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1870-QUEEN-VICTORIA-PENNY-NVF-UK-POST-FREE-/351135216589?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item51c14a33cd http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Victoria-1870-Penny-Fine-/390899098188?hash=item5b0366e24c and 0 of the 11 teeth. Not really confusing once you get the hang of the reference codes, they are all obverse J and reverse g, which is the only obverse and reverse used on 1870 Pennies, therefore the A gives reference to the only pairing, the a,b,c,d,e, is the reference given to the date widths. so your 13 teeth penny would be 1870 Ae J+g. An 11 teeth width would be 1870 Aa J+g.
-
Michael Gouby doesn't give rarity ratings to the date widths. In is newest specialised publication he does however list the number of each date width he had seen or had in stock, which for 1870 was: 11 teeth = 3 reverse a 11 1/2 teeth = 10+ reverse b 12 teeth = 10+ reverse c 13 teeth = 1 reverse e reverse d was maybe missed out incase there is possibly a 12 1/2 tooth date width?

Any ideas on what this is please?

similar and varying versions here http://www.hpmuseum.org/addsimp.htm an early adding machine, yours looks to be an adding + subtracting machine. -
1861 vic penny possible over date?
just.me replied to MACKSILKY.'s topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
6 over 8 is known on reverse D, this looks like a reverse G? could be damaged caused with the scratches or maybe a die flaw? -
Here are a few examples using the Veho VMS-001 around £30 Farthing Penny Florin 20p 6d
-
Was it a Veho microscope you bought with the capture button on the side? If it is then you should be able to press the F11 key and that is used as a capture button also. I had the same problem with movement too when using the side button. It is a Veho that I use (looks exactly the same as the Linder one Chris sells).

Unconfirmed Davies 1970 Proof Halfcrown!
just.me replied to Coinery's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
A better indicator is the width of the rims, wide and narrow as with the observe. Best seen side by side. As with the 1956 varieties, and the "1968"? Yes, that's quite a telling difference. The rims are the best indicator for the 56's obv and rev and the 67/68s obv, I didn't realise that there was a rim difference for reverses I and K. I'll have to have a look, thanks for the info. -
Unconfirmed Davies 1970 Proof Halfcrown!
just.me replied to Coinery's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
The Halfcrown, Florin and Sixpence are all unconfirmed in Davies, they are all quite easy to find. The 1970 obverse 3 Halfpenny is a real tough one to find. Michael Freeman doesn't list it in his book, I think Gouby had it mentioned on his site but never had one listed for sale. I have only ever found one from dozens of 1970 proof sets I've had and I used to look on eBay before too and checked dozens and didn't find another. Freeman mentions 2 reverses for 1970 too paired with obvere 4, I and K, I have never bothered with these as the ship is only 0.2mm wider on K than it is on I. -
2006 Pound Coin - Cracked Die W/blob - Keep It, Ebay It, Spend It?
just.me replied to Nightvision's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Check the pattern on the edge too, most of the fakes in the bridge series have crude edges that either dont line up or the spacings at the dots at the ends of the pattern <><>< . ><><> are way off. -
Thanks guys. спасибо, ребята

How do you get the И П text? (I had to copy and paste your text)

Thanks Rob. I appreciate the info.. Hopefully someone can help fill my holes.

I'd have to disagree with the seller. . . . Both the obverse and reverse of the coin retain some nice detail http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/King-George-IV-Silver-Crown-1821-/271469332468?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item3f34d547f4

1935 Florin Fake?
just.me replied to richtips86's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Are you looking at the reverses with date at the bottom? The crowns on the reverse of the 1927-1936 Florins should sit at 3,6,9 and 12 o'clock, which would put the date roughly at 8 o'clock. I've never came across a 'good' fake florin of this type, I have forgeries of 1928, 1931, 1933 and 1936 but these are all a soft lead type metal and all have correct die alignment.
