It's refreshing to see someone using cotton gloves (I always do). Well done! Very sharp edges and milling. -

My invoice arrived today (though I'd actually paid yesterday at the sale). I have to say their back office is slick, even though they still don't have on-line bidding. -

That was my Gran… she used to collect these things, along with sets of tea cards etc. for me. I think she thought they'd be worth something one day! -
Wow, EF's sound a whole lot better described as Splendido, but like something you'd toss in the recycling bin if called Vorzuglich. Not quite sure what to make of Fast Stempelglanz either! P.s. I was never good at languages

Coins From My Memory Box

Welcome. That's similar to my first coin album from the late 60s. Back in those days shops like Smiths would have a whole section devoted to stamp and coin collecting. Unfortunately, no real value in the coins but you can't put a price on the memories. -

£3,600 + buyer's premium! It was probably closer to A/UNC that a no-faults UNC in my opinion. Still, a lovely coin. I wonder who bought it? -

Ebay has been (in my opinion) pretty poor of late, so don't hold your breath Huss, its a buyers market right now, not a sellers Very true azda but I'm shutting down the coin dealership business (Prestige Numismatics Ltd). I'm just to busy in my new job to give it the attention it need so I need to sell all my stock before the end of my financial tax year which is January.Any interesting pennies, Hus? You can pm me. -
Unfortunately, the Labour Party in Westminster would die, as there are a disproportionate number of Scotsmen among them. We'd be saddled with the self-serving disgrace to humanity aka the Tory Party forever more. Nothing unfortunate about that. And there are plenty of self-serving disgraces in all political parties. Let's not get into a political argument. I was brought up from the cradle that morality and human values count for more than acquisition and personal wealth, but I acknowledge that not everyone agrees. Indeed, but the things you list are not mutually exclusive and none of them are the responsibility of government. No, not the responsibility, you're quite right about that. But some people over the years have attributed more of the 'abstract idealism' values to the Liberal and Labour Parties respectively, where they attribute to the Tories more of the 'traditional values of Church, State, and business'. Bottom line? I've met many many many nice people who've surprised me when I found they voted Conservative; but I've never (in my lifetime) encountered a Tory Party policy that stood for putting other people ahead of their core values of wealth and self interest. On the other hand, there was Disraeli... if he were alive today, would he find a natural home in today's Tory Party? Now there's a subject for debate, if you like We've covered religion, racism and now politics, all in the last few days. Something for everyone on here You may be right about the Tory party, Peckris, but the same arguments apply to labour. Probably all more so. It's just directed at the interests of a different group of people. Why do I always think of George Orwell and Animal Farm when I hear the name Tony Blair mentioned?

The seller is Martin Platt so take his grade with a pinch of salt. He generally ups ALL grades by at least 1 full grade if he can get away with it. He also uses acetone quite frequently on copper. He's recently changed his ebay name from *country*cottage*interiors* which is actually his wifes ebay id, his was *classic*british*coins* Only EF and showing the suspicious uniform, light 'caramel' colour which suggests possible dipping.

Noble Sale 104
Accumulator replied to Garrett's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Did you hear back about the penny yet Accumulator ? It's 1.15pm Friday in Sydney now, so hopefully you will hear soon (if not already). The penny sure will do a great job in filling a gap in your cabinet ! Not a word from them yet, nor on my other wins, so I'm assuming I won't hear anything until sometime after the series of auctions end. No reply to my email either. -
Does that make me part of the 10% that normally agrees with a bit of what you say, Dave? Or the 10% that from time to time agrees with much of what you say? Or am I part of the 90% that occasionally doesn't agree with much of what you say? Or the 90% that normally doesn't agree with a bit of what you say ... ? 90% of the voting public normally agree with much of what David Cameron says.

Noble Sale 104

The listed sale price is the same as my maximum bid price. I'm not sure how Noble works, but with many auction houses room bidders take priority. So it's possible someone won the coin from the floor. The 'my bids' section of the website suggests I've won and I've emailed for confirmation. We shall just have to see... -

I'll definitely share all photos when I've received confirmation from Noble. In the meantime, I did put in a 'lowball' proxy-bid for this 1837 penny, which I appear to have won. If so, it'll be a nice surprise! It's not perfect, but certainly at the comfortable end of EF: -
All of my posts are public and viewable for all to see. My interactions with azda have been very few. Within the first week of me joining, I noticed two curt and overarching statements by azda in threads that amounted to "PCGS can't grade, American's love plastic and artificial toning". My response to those two (or maybe three?) threads was simple and to the point. I asked if he was finished grinding his axe. That's all. The second interaction with azda was in this thread where a new member asked about PCGS vs. CGS. azda in his way of painting with broad strokes replied that: "If you are intending to sell your coins into an international market then PCGS would be the better option because those Crazy Yanks will buy the slab number instead of whats[sic] actually inside, if you know how to artificially tone them beforehand you'll make a fortune n[sic] the American market." I pointed out how short-sighted and untrue this statement was. I never used vulgarities or back-handed insults, I simply told it how it was from my perspective. In his follow-up, azda himself points out that this was "twice" I had a dig at him personally. Note, twice...not the supposed "many" times over several weeks that he's now asserting. Furthermore, I don't see how disagreeing with someone is a personal attack -- it's a discussion forum, and while azda is to be entitled to his generalized and overarching opinions, am I not to be entitled to my opinions in a market where I have been active for 25 years? That's an interesting double standard. All further interaction and replies after that 2nd interaction were in response to vulgar, direct attacks on me. I addressed all in a civil manner, and left many alone as I see no point is belaboring a point with someone who has painted himself into a victim's corner. Let me note that in this same thread I pointed out to TomGoodheart that his statement regarding USA eBay was false, but this was equally so no a personal attack. It was merely offering fact and clarification. Am I also attacking Tom by the same premise? With regard to the "haters" comment I made in the toned coins thread, it was in (possibly poor) jest, but has nothing to do with azda. Many members here have expressed dislike of toned coins, and it was plural -- haters. I don't see how this is a jab at anyone specifically -- but I do see how a paranoid person could convince himself thereof. In closing, I will just state that while I may be "new" to this forum, I am not "new" to the hobby or online forums. This is the 8th coin related forum I have joined, and I have committed over 10,000 comments (and a few research articles) to said forums over the past 4+ years. I know how the "he-said, she-said" forum games works. And, once someone has cried "foul" -- particularly a more "senior member" -- the facts seem to be irrelevant. I am quite certain, a review of the facts of these supposed personal attacks will reveal the reality...if anyone cares to take the time consult them. I joined this forum because I collect quite a lot of UK coins and tokens, and there is specialistic expertise here that is not available elsewhere. =========== To azda I will simply say that no harm nor foul was intended. At the same time, I hope you realize that you have thrown just as many barbs my way as I have thrown yours. Certainly sharper (tongue) barbs. Would you not reply in an equally emphatic way if I made a comment such as "Those savage Scots love their cleaned and dipped out coins". That is the level of silliness and absurdity with which I have taken your "Crazy Yanks" and "artificial toning" jabs. I do apologize for any insults, but I am here to discuss coins. All the rest is a distraction...(e.g., the plastic game is here to stay -- whether we like it or not). Kind regards, -Brandon You've both had your say now. This forum is definitely richer for BOTH your valuable contributions, so let's not lose either of you! Please. Dave, Brandon, time to shake hands and move on?

Think I picked up a couple of pennies (one a bargain if I actually got it!). Will have to wait for the confirmation/invoice. It will have been worth waking early for -
I simply buy the coin I want. If it happens to be in a slab, then fine. If it happens to be raw, that's fine too, though it makes photography a lot easier. There's an interesting parallel to coins, with wine in the US. If you've never come across him before, look up Robert Parker. In the States, prices of fine wines are, to a huge extent, determined by the 'score' (50-100) given by this man. If you want to hear the UK view (not positive towards Mr. Parker and his influence), read the intro to one of Hugh Johnson's annual wine guides! Here in the UK, wine scores have never really taken off, much like slabs.

More Coin Ticket Help Anyone?

I am assuming it is not Chingford then? Morning All, Robs right, unfortunately not me or Family, The chap in question used to attend the London Coin Shows in Bloomsbury, selling old catalogues and books, I saw him my last time there but that was at the end of last year, I haven't been to any this year. . He had a website called Springnumbooks, I tried it this morning but the link doesn't work anymore, John I bumped into John at Coinex (I think?) last year, selling old books and catalogues. I always assumed you were one and the same! Is he interested in the copper penny series, or is that only yourself? I'd once heard that one of you might even be considering a book? A definitive book is badly needed and, with a good numbering system, might even replace Peck and Bramah in auction descriptions for 1837-1860 (and perhaps even 1797 - 1860). The Chap you met wasn't me, but I think could be the Author of the book Peter linked to earlier in the Thread, I am the Copper collector 1828-1860, I leave the earlier Soho pieces/dates to those that understand them. As for a Copper book, not just yet, still at that stage where I am finding varieties and then trying to prove them and reasoning behind them, lots do get put onto Michael Goubys site for generally reference, and as I have said before I am always happy to answer any questions on the series, if I can. Regards John Thanks for clearing that up John. You've answered a couple of questions on the copper series for me in the past. I always feel it's rather a neglected area and the coins are stunning, so good luck with your ongoing research and hopefully a book in due course! 1828 seems an arbitrary cut-off date? I guess it negates the need to spend a lot on a good 1827 example! I really must spend more time on the 1837-60 pennies…. something for the long winter evenings! -
