  1. And I suffer with sleep paralysis.
  2. Yes, the 1944. It does appear to be slightly different but we would need a clearer photo to be sure.

    I in BRITT in penny?

Hi, that's just the standard 1911 I'm afraid. On the Gouby X, the 'I' points very slightly to the right of the tooth, if anything. Gouby X on the right:
  4. It does look as though yours is somewhere halfway between the two main catalogued versions, though it's hard to be sure from the photo.
  5. You haven't specified that they need to be British coins (although you may prefer that they are). Vast quantities of foreign coins are collected by charities and can be found for sale for a few pounds per Kg on eBay and elsewhere.
  6. They sure do, and Accumulator's cabinet style photo gallery is truly superb! Welcome to the Forum You're very kind. I actually have a few more coins to add when I get time. Welcome to the forum Tracy.
  7. Yes Declan is right, unfortunately your example has the normal obverse 2. If you keep looking for rarities you may well find something, so don't give up!
  8. Peckris said: How did you do that! When I click 'Quote' it gives me unremovable boxes instead the 'Quote/endQuote' code we had before. (As you see, I can delete the contents, but how do you get rid of the boxes themselves?) Assuming this works..... Highlight the boxes & press delete. It's a graphical interface rather than the raw html we had before. Edit: It did work!
  9. Keep your eyes open as I don't have a spare. It only covers copper, bronzed and gilt pieces because Mick doesn't collect Silver or Gold Soho or restrikes, so does have its inherent limitations. Having said that, the latter are so rare that there must by definition be few collectors of them in these metals. I can probably help here if you need any info. Sorry, I lied. Didn't realise I had one spare. PM sent.Sorry, been busy for the past couple of weeks. If you find a second spare copy Rob, please let me know? Or if anyone can email a photocopy? Spink have a few old Circulars that can be read on their website, but unfortunately not this one.

    York Coin Fair

It was the Silverstone Classic weekend for me! Coins have to take a back seat when the sun shines
  11. As a boy, I recall visiting Mr Brady (can't remember his first name, but it wasn't Ian!) at his well-stocked shop in Brady's Arcade, Kingston upon Thames. I recall that he was once attacked (hit over the head) and had a lot of stock stolen. An online search shows him as a British Numismatic Society member in 1965. Anyone else remember him or come across his coins?
  12. How on earth do they conclude this has the 1/2d numerals?

    1963 proof penny

A couple of the photos are promising (others are not) but, unless I was able to actually see the coin, I'd want some independent verification of it being a proof. Even then, I'd probably want a second opinion. How about offering £1,500 on the basis of it being slabbed as a proof by CGS? Or getting an independent report by, say, Mark Rasmussen? For a genuine proof, that's a fair price though. As an aside, for a £1,500 (asking) coin its getting some rough handling by these so called experts!

    Off on holiday

I'm off as well, a week in North Wales. I have my oversized wellies for harassing the sheep , then a week in North Devon. Not sure what precautions I will need for there. A good precaution would not be to tell the world wide web when you're away from home Slightly tongue in cheek, but you never know!

    Site problems

I've re-calibrated, re-counted, re-synched the whole forum and have removed the server stored cache files and theoretically it should be fine now! At least, there should certainly be no more disappearing threads, but as for the confusion in the browser bar between predecimal.com/forum and british-coins.com/forum I'm still personally experiencing problems with that. Anyone else having similar issues? This could cause people to become logged out. For the last two or three days (for me) it has been consistently predecimal.com, and there haven't been any problems. Same for me

    1963 proof penny

You could say the same about Stephens 1964 here http://www.mycoincollection.co.uk/page12.html To be honest, I'm not totally convinced about my 1964 though, and I know it doesn't show in the photos, it does have a strongly proof-like surface. As far as your coin is concerned, I really can't see anything that says 'proof' to me, but it's very difficult to see much through plastic film.

    1940 penny with unusual feature

It does look like a die flaw. The raised areas under the curl of the third wave are missing too. On further inspection, the entire area between the upper exergue line and the base of the waves is disturbed.

    Site problems

It's not just you. The site has been down for 48 hours here. I spoke to Chris yesterday and he knew about the problems and was working on it. I'm glad it's back (after a fashion). You only realise how much you use it once it's not there! Another addict? Certainly missed here. As you say, it's not quite sorted but I'm sure Chris is on the case.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

lol, perhaps the guy is trying his luck, crafted in the trenches of the Falklands? He's actually quite honest in his description. He made it himself in the style of 'trench art', so fair enough.

    A Hoard of Coins

It's an 1875 wide date, dies 8 + J, Freeman 82. Clearly it has plenty of lustre and so I would expect it to be in EF or better condition. Viewing the coin through plastic it's impossible to accurately judge, and there may be knocks etc. which would affect the price significantly. Typical sale prices for the EF - UNC range on eBay would be £150 - £350.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

He/she seems like an honest seller. Not many would include a close up photo of any damage, so credit where credit is due in my book. At least any prospective buyer can make an informed decision!

    Gothic Crown Anyone?

As I recall, L stood for Lux and it was the more comfortable model. I drove the S (sport) a few times and it was slightly more sporty having a more aggressively profiled cam. They were all 2.0 litre in those days (later increasing to 2.2, 2.4, 2.7 then 3.0 etc) so max power was only 140-160 bhp.

    Gothic Crown Anyone?

Yup, in 1998 (the year before Ferrari took control) I bought a brand new Maserati Ghibli for £54k...(never get drunk at a motor show with a credit card.)...sold it 2 years later for £16k...absolute rubbish car...everything went wrong or fell off or didnt fit...hole in the petrol tank, top of gear knob fell off twice, boot lid never fitted correcly, drivers window stuck down...lozenge shaped Maserati clock fell off out of the dash !??...and thats what I can remember....you dont get that with a Gothic Crown. You could have bought a nice Ferrari Daytona back then for much the same money. Now that would have been a handsome investment.
