where did you buy it....from the bay?
-
ah mr divemaster.....me thinks you mean die pairings..... die numbers were used in the victorian times just above the date on the reverses of coins, this was done to assess wear on the dies.....mostly during the 1860's i think.....
-
at that mag, can you hold it still?...
-
it ran through my mind too.... im amazed though.....for a mintage of less than .5 million that there are sooo many varities
-
wow, i thought those days were long past
-
yes i think that too for other coins, hair ribbon details and curls in the hair etc etc etc.....its a minefield for us learners........but when you do learn something die numbers i can cope with, although with aging eye site, a glass is essential now

Hiya. Victorian sixpences were struck with a 180 degree rotation up to 1887. the 1887 coins can have either rotation depending if their young head (180) or the 2 tpes of jubilee bust which have no rotation. Spinks quote £10 for a fine example, a photo would be needed to judge grade........but that hole

Help & Thoughts 'Elizabeth I BCW Die-Study'!
ski replied to Coinery's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
yes intellectual copyright applies to images taken by the author of material in his possesion.....however as much as intellectual copyright exists it can be controlled by corporate copyright. an example of this is when i photograph at premier league football matches, i own the intellectual copyright of the images i capture but am governed by the rules of the premier league, an example being the number of images i can post on my personal website without having to pay for a licence. the same applies to buildings, whilst i can capture images for example on national trust land and own the intellectual copyright of those images, what i can do with those images is controlled by the national trust and what licence i may have to pay them, for earning monies from their property. it is also possible to have your intellectual copyright removed in certain circumstances, such as under the terrorism laws if you were photographing a sensative subject such as a military installation, a government office block on the north bank of the thames!!!...... youre question though is clear cut......you owned the coin, you own the intellectual copyright to the image you captured. you can publish. -
thanks Rob, that clears that up.....lots of useful info there too. yes Dave its a roman 1 proof im after....but that popped up in an ebay search and it just didnt look right. thanks all for helping. ski

im a little concerned about this coin.....firstly, the emergency sale.....maybe genuine. but for me the ngc slab doesnt seem right.....ive only 3 ngc slabs, they all have under the bar code either ngc or the full title......this coin doesnt have either. ive trawled the ngc site and cannot find a coin without this titling under the bar code. secondly the reverse hologram is like no other ive seen.....and finally, when you enter the id in the ngc website....no pic. what do you think? ski

additionally.....all the samples were stated as such in the ticket...the above coin isnt ticketed as a sample....all the samples were of low value coins given away as freebies, a 1887 double florin arabic 1 proof doesnt really fall into this catagory. ski
-
hi Rob....the link youve provided is for the samples that ngc distributed to collectors to arouse interest in the slabbing concept. the ebay example i posted isnt for a sample but a coin slabbed for commercial purposes. all just samples that ngc gave away at shows.....proving the concept. ski

and of course the possibility of the production run coming to an end and the presses dies changed to a different denomination.........so maybe 2 presses running, 1 with good dies and 1 with the variety dies......up goes youre number of the variety coin......maybe

hiya......the man depicted is Isambard Kingdom Brunel and was issued in 2006 to celebrate 200 years since his birth. ski

yes i am....im also reading...........and some of the reply's here have suggested that an exclusive survey as you;ve suggested may not contact enough collectors who own this coin, and too wide a survey (slabs, ebay) may also give false readings as mentioned. a very early reply suggested contacting the mint, good advice i think. so, from the replys here how many of the people who have so far joined in on this topic, this being a very exclusive survey, have replied saying they own this coin?.......ive had a very quick look back......to me it just looks like you. so weve accounted for 1 out of the 10.......taking this surveys results alone......your coin is indeed much scarcer than r5 would suggest, i hope you find another 9......i seriously hope you dont find any more than 9........if your investement is based on 10 examples then your investement may be compromised if you find 20 or 30 or more.
-
you cant.....hows your number crunching programme going to work.....lets assume there is only 10 then......yours and nine others.....and those other nine are slabbed?.........so forget those 9, so now youve the only one.......what have you learnt?.......nothing nil zip....... okay ive got 15 of them then......now, you happy?

1905 Florin - fair price for the grade?
ski replied to Paulus's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
i think its fair to say 1 of the coins is on a par with your coin dave......the other 2 are not as bad as the coin mr platt is advertising.....maybe theyre between the two.......will get the camera out at the weekend and post some pics so that you can judge. I have decided to give it a go and have sorted out a couple of very low grade shillings. will post those results too, dave you recommend 10 secs of dip and then washing.......any minimum amount of time for the rinse? if the rinse is too short could the dip attack the coins surface? ski -
im sorry but ive got no stomach for that thought.
-
contact all collectors.......thats easy!!!........and how do you go about contacting non collectors who has inherited grandads collection and dont know of its significance yet??? i think an educated estimate from those who know about these crowns and their history, is probably as good as its going to get. ski
