  7. no not fair at all..........., there is a huge gulf between the regular knowledgeable dealers and those who sell the overgraded polished/cleaned overpriced crap on ebay,..........and thats the whole point to choolie, find yourself a good knowledgeable dealer, bide youre time and get the piece you want. ski

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

i agree......although it seems to have become a bit fashionable here of late to give dealers a good slagging off. ebay is becoming less and less useable in my opinion, the serious collector, can judge grade, but the newbie, less so..... shilling is rife on high end pieces on ebay, but boy does the novice get caned on the ordinary pieces by anyone out to make a fast buck.......anyone with a tin of duraglit or the like. god help the novice.........cant trust ebay....cant trust dealers.........sad
  9. one of the threads that ran in the last 2 or 3 days, cant remember which. maybe worth a trawl.

  14. choolie......im really sorry....my post was to try and show you there is more to life than ebay....i looked at a good few dealers sites for 1902 florins and pointed out this one as he had stock......sadly the thread has degenerated into a slagging him off thread rather than give you any reasonable help in judging the 2 coins on offer.........sorry for that ski
  15. my post wasn't meant to recommend rendell ,more an idea of getting the op to look around dealers lists rather than use flea bay. ive also to say ive never bought from rendell, so cannot comment on his grading. i only used rendell as his site showed he had 2 examples of that date listed. ski.
  16. im looking at the first one and dont think its unc, there looks to be flattening on brittanias breasts and also the drape blowing across the trident lacks detail, i dont think its a weak strike. just for referance...spink 2012 ef£70 and unc £120. personally i think better could be found within your budget. maybe you should email richard ingram he has a couple for sale, he will send pics by email, he has an aunc for £95 and an ef for £55. you may be better off shopping around the coin dealers instead of relying on ebay. ski.

    POLISHED COINS

i wrote to the seller and pointed out all his coins were very highly polished to make them look a better grade than what they were, he did reply, saying thats how he bought them and people would buy basing their judgement on grade. The idea that his coins were not pristine as advertised but very highly polished was of no concern to him at all.
  23. thanks guys for all the info. am i reading this right? i would disagree, there are loads of obv2's out there for the arabic1, in fact 2b is the normal die pairing given in davies as 541 am i reading this right? obverse1 with the roman numeral is the correct die pairing davies 540 gives as dies 1a all of my roman 1's are obv1 .
  24. okay thanks. where would the referance davies 540a have come from if its not in an existing referance book, was there published in coin magazines/journals updates by davies which would have been incorporated into a future update?
