    Rainbow toned us morgan dollar

im not a fan of rainbow toning, the americans seem to love it, but for me it just doesnt look like natural toning.
  2. i buy mine from colin cooke coins......... £3-60 for 100 inc vat......ie 3.6p each £22-80 for 1000inc vat.....ie 2.2p each thats not so expensive for someone looking at making a long term investment.
  3. whoooo congrats and a big new years day welcome to Connor, lets hope the little fella is a better fisherman than dad......good luck to you all.
  4. i think individual storage will be a better option, i like the 2x2 envelopes mentioned by peckris , i then store them in 2x2 coin boxes, can be purchased cheap enough on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-coin-storage-boxes-coin-holders-2-x-2-envelope-/390162868770?pt=UK_Coins_Supplies_RL&hash=item5ad784ea22 ski
  5. i had it viewed, was told the obverse was deeply scratched, 425-525 with spink at 600 fdc as a guide, my dealer advised 300 tops for this piece. we were both gobsmacked at 1000 hammer. sign of the times...... anyone got one for sale????
  6. ive to hunt down a roman1 double florin proof to finish the series, a resolution that may fail, other than that, whatever appeals. as a non-smoker, ive also decided to give up smoking again this year, its usually my most succesful resolution
  7. i have bid on 2 absentee bids this year and one through my friendly dealer which ive won, lost more besides. ive long been suspicious of the 2 absentee bids ive won as ive won them at my highest bid, maybe a fact of life, but i guess ive won them at what was my max. i think were all in a middle ground at the mo regarding auctions, investors??? seem to be pushing prices beyond what knowledgable collectors would pay, and i think whilst this is happening.....as collectors, were stuffed, were gonna lose auctions. Whether prices will return to what is acceptable to dealers/collectors when markets pick up.....we will see. until then every little win at auction becomes a little more precious. ski

    Gothic Crowns

although there is that note about the comment from mr stride, the table still refers to them as proofs in esc, as does davies. if their polished dies and not released for circulation, are they not proofs?

  19. Thanks red riley. i was surprised in the video how roughly the blanks were treated. youre all in denial , hiding behind youre addiction for coin collecting when you all clearly are addicted to writing about it too!!!. but what a great distraction we enjoy, collecting great pieces, sharing them here and learning from the gods who teach us here...may it long continue, and a big thank you too for the great advice ive received in my time here. ski
  20. very interesting videos. im wondering about proofs, it stated in the video that the proof blanks were double struck, this is so for the modern coin being produced, does anyone know if older proofs, victorian or earlier were double struck?
  21. the archive of our uploaded images can be viewed under "my settings" and then "manage attachments", im just playing around at the moment to see if there is a way of using the attachments in the manner you describe. perhaps admin may know for sure if this can be done or not.
