  12. it strikes me ( excuse the pun) that most here are in fact misled that hammered refers to the method of coin manufacture in this period. in reality hammered referes to the alcoholic state of the person producing the coins

  16. THE DIFFERENCE IF YOU MARRY A GLASGOW GIRL Three friends married women from different parts of the world..... The first man married a Filipino. He told her that she was to do the dishes and house cleaning. It took a couple of days, but on the third day, he came home to see a clean house and dishes washed and put away. The second man married a Thai. He gave his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes and the cooking. The first day he didn’t see any results, but the next day he saw it was better. By the third day, he saw his house was clean, the dishes were done, and there was a huge dinner on the table. The third man married a girl from Glasgow . He ordered her to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed, and hot meals on the table for every meal. The first day he didn’t see anything, the second day he didn't see anything but by the third day, some of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye and his arm was healed enough that he could fix himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher. He still has some difficulty when he pees.
  17. ive been looking out for a double florin proof for ages. ive read in another topic here about mintage figures etc, but im still having trouble recognising a proof from the many prooflike coins that exist. r.ingram has a proof for sale on his website but i cant tell if the rim is raised or not. could anyone please help me with a couple of pics...maybe showing the rims in detail for both the proof and circulation coin. or maybe any other help in identifying double florin proofs. thanks in advance.......... Ski
  18. thank you nick, your pictures are exactly what i was hoping to see. i hope you dont mind if i save them for future referance. By the way that proof looks like a really nice coin. thanks..........ski
  19. yes theyre very good at showing the difference.....sadly ive never seen any pictures as good as these when trying to buy a double florin. Im also wondering if the beads on a double florin lessen the effect of the square rim in photos. i dont think i would have a problem if sellers photos were as good as dereks. cheers azda. ski
  20. thanks everyone for all the info. i guess im just going to have to get to look at and handle one for real (although thats partly the problem i have). maybe a trip to mr ingrams, as some have said here, his picture isnt too good, i couldnt see the difference at all in his photo. i havent used the london coins archive at all, seems like a useful facility. thanks once again.
  21. i struggle to understand him. ive heard though that rioters have stormed jdsports in walthamstow, apparantly theyre taking back the arsenal shirts they nicked last month ski
