  2. a coin is a beautiful work of art, why entomb it in a plastic coffin? i will never have a slabbed coin in my collection as i find them abhorrent......
  3. this coin is being sold on ebay as a £5 coin.........
  4. i use an acetone dip to clear away any crud on coins, i have a swedish coin which had a blob of crap on it which soapy water wouldn't budge but 3 minutes in acetone and a rinse in distilled water removed the crud, dry by dabbing with a soft cotton cloth.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Probably, please explain more. Because it's only a VF commonwealth penny of which there are invariably examples for sale on ebay at any one time. Latest Spink price on these is £80 in VF which is about right. £207 is somewhat OTT even if it is a reasonable example. I'm still in the dark as to why so many people pay twice what they would if they got it from a dealer, be it a website, off a list or at a fair. It doesn't make sense. If I listed one in that grade at 3 figures it would stay unsold. An Aberystwyth penny in comparable grade sold in the last online CNG sale for less and there's probably only been one other example for sale in the last 12 months - I know what is the better buy. and the acid deposits from the sellers skin come as an added bonus...........
  6. it certainly looks central or north african due to the tower with the crescent on the roof which could signify a minaret on a mosque.
  7. this is my most recent purchase of a non british coin, it is the 1930 german 3 mark zeppelin coin with an A mintmar in VF condition........
  8. mate i think that you are taking the piss out of us all on this forum, now go away and get your jollies elsewhere.
  9. Ooh, so Woy has been booted into touch I can't say I grieve. But also, I don't see King Kenny as being the universal panacea he's being touted as. Still, as long as he has the dressing room, and as long as the New Yanks give him some money to buy a few players... (I'm thinking that John Barnes, Peter Beardsley and Ray Houghton might do the trick ) i think that billy liddell could do a job for us on the right......lol
  10. the last figure i heard of from the mint is that around 250,000 have been accidentally released into circulation. Hm. Similar mintage to the 1950 penny then? And we know how rare THOSE are don't mention 1950, some tool on ebay is selling an arsenal winners coins set from that year, talk about rubbing it in that they beat us in the final...........

  17. I think you just have to bite the bullet and accept returns in all circumstances. May hurt your pride occasionally but should prevent negative feedback, and to be fair, most buyers are honest so shouldn't cause a disproportionate amount of hassle. i think in all honesty i had just come to the end of my trading, and wanted to pack it in, and this incident was the straw that broke the camels back. i was left with a lot of stock which i have since sold or given away.............just a collector these days and loving it.

    1934 Crown

Should be approx. 28.4g. As it is likely that only one or two (if any) 1934 crowns found their way to China, then any defects to the original coin will be repeated on the reproduction. Essentially the process used is for the forger to employ the genuine coin as a hub from which he then cuts a die and ultimately copy coins from that die. For this reason, many of the copies are far from high grade and can be as low as fine. Unfortunately I do not know the particulars of any 1934 forgeries but someone else on here may know, failing that a search of the internet might yield an answer. Incidentally, there was a previous wave of forgeries emenating from the Middle East. I have now weighed the crown as advised and I am pleased to say it weighed 28.3g. Which hopefully is within the tolerance of the accepted weight of this crown and the weighing scales. With all your advice, I shall now consider my next move. Thank you for your help. Out of interest, which area of the country are you in? I'm in the East Of England Ok - well if the NE then there's the York Fair, if the SE there's quite a few in London, but if the E Midlands then my knowledge of fairs has run out (though if not too far from the W Midlands there's the Midlands Fair near the NEC). Either way, that's a rich source of expertise and advice on your coin. and there is also the leeds coin fair which is now held in wakefield every month.

CoinManage UK 2011 - UK Coin Inventory Software

good programme, i think i will buy the full version if the trial is anything to go by.
  23. i sold coins and banknotes for 10 years on e-bay, and had one or two problems, as one poster has alrady said paypal are overly quick to dtop any transactions on your acount if they get 1 complaint, some people expect uncirculated standard coins even though you advertise them as "stained" or worn through circulation. i sold a william III sipence for £27 and my description clearly stated that the coin had 2 stains on the obverse. the buyer lodged a complaint because "the coin had marks on the heads side" without arbitration paypal upheld his complaint even though i had clearly stated in my reply that the coin was accurately described in my listing. i mean this chap must have wanted an £80 coin for £27.....i had a perfect 100 feedback rating and had many returning customers but thos one instance really pee'd me off som much that i closed down my account and never intend to reopen it. incidentally one of my coins has been listed by the buyer, it is an alexander III scottish penny which i sold cheaply because there was a cut halfway across the coin, the seller has crudely repaired the cut and has listed it as "a detector find" i could have done the same but i am too honest for my own good.
