  1. Initially thought it was a funny scan and some of the letters were worn away, but inspecting it it is! Strictly speaking it is true. Perhaps at the time they thought that's what people would call her!

    Internet Coin Sites

It'd be handy if someone here with some spare time could compile a categorised list of bookmarks. I would but I only have 10 pages about coins bookmarked.
  3. I just wanted to bump this topic to see if this is still relevant... are there any new Coin magazines? I bought a copy of Coin Monthly from eBay from the 60s and found it interesting and wondered if there were any good magazines these days about coins that one could buy as I prefer reading printed text than on the internet?

1933 American Double Eagle For Sale

Not to mention the Duraglit surface! Well, if someone's going to shell out their hard-earned money for such a rare artifact, the least they can expect is to have it nicely buffed up for them by the seller. Personally I don't like my coins dunked in Brasso... but there we go. I think that they're best left alone as I have heard horrific stories about people trying to clean them the wrong way and I like them to have a patina.:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: I've replied to something without reading the posts properly again haven't I.

Can you spend sovereigns in a shop?

......you may have to wait some time, their in decline in uk wetlands. ccgb2010 is priced at six guineas, do the same tax rules apply to guineas, were they ever used for currency? In the Great Recoinage they were replaced by the Sovereign so they are not legal tender as far as I'm aware. However, people still called 21 shillings a Guinea and this makes it £1.05 today, so times that by 6 for 6 Guineas and that gives you £6.30, the price of the book. It was used as legal tender originally being equal to 20 shillings but then increasing in the late 1600s (I think) to 21 until 1816 of course. I don't think they have the same tax rules. Sion

If you do indeed have this coin it is worth around 7 million dollars. I wouldn't advise selling it for $20.

Microsoft Excel - How to show pics

You have an Access table (file) of pictures with an associated unique Coin ID for each picture. You also store that same unique ID against each coin in your main table. Finally, you establish a relationship between the two tables based on Coin ID, and simply set up a picture field that brings in the relevant picture based on the relationship. It sounds more complicated to explain than to set up. Yes - the more RAM you have, the less the problem will manifest, but Excel itself probably has an overhead position where it will start to slow down on very large files, but I have absolutely no idea what that size is. I've sorted the Access problem out with Colin now so no need to worry. Your method sounds interesting though and I'll try it out when I have some time. Also, with Access you can store the images outside the database rather than integrating them therefore there isn't any of that problem.

    Victoria Token?

That's the coin alright but the "expert" doesn't seem to know what they are on about, claiming the clearly labelled "VICTORIA QUEEN OF GREAT BRITAIN" was not Victoria and it was a Russian Kopek.

Microsoft Excel - How to show pics

Oh, and isnt the large file size slowing down the program a RAM issue?

Microsoft Excel - How to show pics

Hmm... Is there any similar way for Access? I can only attach pictures as objects that you have to click on and open in the default program where you use it. I'd rather have a mouseover or immidiate view. Anyone know how?
  18. That's pretty heavy cuds by the look of it. Stick it on eBay and see who'll give you a fiver for it!

    Hammered silver ID please

Looks like an Edward I penny? Ask Sylvester, I think he's the expert on this sort of thing.
  20. I think we will have plenty of contributions - but who will host it? I'm skint otherwise I would. Anyone with a website willing to volunteer? It's best if you have some PHP knowledge.

Microsoft Excel - How to show pics

If you have a modern computer a 2mb pic on each of the 2000 makes only 2GB in files. Which is only the size of the smallest flash drive you can get these days. Computer hard drives are usually more than 100GB, mine being 240. I think this is supposed to be quicker and more aesthetically pleasing. Also it's more convenient if you are checking all the images of the same year coin for an error you've just read about you can just gently move the mouse down as opposed to opening an unholy amount of windows or tabs.
  22. For the copyrighted stuff the only way we will legally put them in is with permission from the author.

    Victoria Token?

josie I saw that the other day - however through all the different coats of arms I couldn't find a banner match!
  24. A wiki is easy to make as well with MediaWiki (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki) and someone with web knowledge and hosting (you know who you are) and a couple of volunteer mods to combat any spamming or vandalism would be able to. If a link was given, I think most here would contribute to it and it could be posted to other coin forums like CoinsGB.com .

    Victoria Token?

The double headed eagle is very common. They are basically the same apart from the banner they carry and the design. Some are entirely one colour.
