    Queen Ann Shilling

Would that mean it has to be a S3610 or a S3618 ? and is there a variation within those classifications to explain why the legend/hair do not match ? thanks for both your input into this.

    Queen Ann Shilling

Its 26mm dia, the closest looking hair/legend configuration was on a sixpence (s3620?) but this is a shilling, I saw there is a S3615a struck from crude local dies (E) but could not find a picture of one to compare it. I did send a scan of this coin to National Museums of Scotland to see if they wanted it for recording/Treasure Trove but they said probably a later one and not too submit it. Hopefully a better scan attached.
  3. Hi all, another recent beach find with a metal detector a Queen Ann shilling, its a bit rough and has not coped with conditions well but a welcome find that has a fair amount of detail. I can not figure out which Spinks number it is though(S3608?), looks like a later one by the shields/crown configuration and the hair suggests that also but cant seem to get a match between the RAT of gratia and the bun and ribbon, and of course the only smooth parts on the coin is where any mintmark and the date would have been ! Any help greatly appreciated, I realise it has little monetary value.

    Charles ii Merk

Thanks for the comments Rob/Krasnaya, the obverse has more of a marled patination ? rather than pitted(maybe the same thing), this is probably due to the fact its been under salt water for quite some time as it was found at low tide on a beach. I take it that a coin like this would be left in the condition its in or would it benefit/can it be proffessionally cleaned ?
  5. I was lucky enough to find this coin whilst metal detecting and thought you may like to see it, its a Charles ii Scottish Merk 1672 with a reversed 2, the coin is in as found condition, thanks in advance for any help with a value.
  6. Hello all this is my first post on your forum, I am a keen Scottish metal detectorist and found this coin on a beach last week. At first I thought it was an ordinary rather grubby water worn Geo iii shilling a welcome find none the less, however I noticed it has a stop above the head and can not find any similar or any info on it, I thought maybe some one here may know, it appears genuine.
