You might also want to include: reference numbers (eg Spink, Davies etc), seller, value, advertised grade and a link to a picture.

I would say EF with the reverse perhaps slightly better. There are quite a few surface marks and there looks to be some wear on the ear and slight rubbing to the beard and hair.

A lot of the 1893 proof coins are toned that way, so it may not be artificially toned. -
Strangely enough, I'd had a high grade 1937 halfcrown for yonkeys, then examining it closely one day I was struck by the slight mirroring in the fields, but even more by the razor sharp rim. I've now provisionally reclassified it as a proof. However, I do accept that it must have come from a broken set, and as for being rare Having said all that, I think George VI proofs are the most difficult to tell apart from normal issues. They're not very good, let's face it. Why is that? My proof has a frosted effigy and is very different from the ordinary strike. Mine does too. Here's a piccy of my 1937 florin proof obverse.

What is the best program for ensuring emails get through?
Nick replied to Rob's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
You could configure Outlook not to filter out any junk e-mail (Tools->Options->Preferences->Junk E-mail). If you still experience problems, then it is most likely your ISP that needs changing, rather than your email program. -
There are two reverses for 1912, where the M and P of IMP are close together or not. The first reverse (same as 1911) is a bit scarcer than the second, but not massively so. A lot of dealers don't distinguish between varieties, unless there is a marked difference in rarity or value.

Very nice shiiling Debbie. It's the scarcer of the two 1912 reverses too. I think 'mint state' is used, like BU, to indicate that it is slightly better than a 'bog standard' UNC (ie is brilliant, has full lustre, or has no bagmarks, etc).

Publishing your email address on a public forum might not help though! -
1877 Sixpence (die no. 27)
Nick replied to Descartes's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Although it does look like an inverted 7, it's a 2. The die numbers for 1877 sixpences only go as high as 35. -
London Coins Auction 2nd-3rd June

The bit in italics just means that they send you a list of your bids that they have entered, so that you can check that no mistakes have been made. Proxy bids are confidential, so they are not allowed to let you know that you are not the highest bidder. -
1902 Florin Good Value
Nick replied to choolie's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I mentioned CC, that i sent a coin back to him as i did'nt agree with the grade, he freely accepted the return and got my money back as did Chris Perkins i think mentioned the same. Personally, I expect dealers' grades to be accurate. After all, they will often have more grading experience than the majority of collectors. We are also often told that a dealer will only pay 50% of what a coin might be worth - therefore that is the dealer's profit margin. So when I see a dealer inflating the grade, I see that as an attempt to take an extra profit at the expense of the buyer. I too have complained about CC grading, but at least they are consistent and do accept returns. -
1887 arabic1 double florin.
Nick replied to ski's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I'd say so, all of the 1887 arabics I've owned have been 2+B. As a mule issue between the 1+A and 2+B, the 1+B was probably a short-lived combination. -

Yes, Rob has bought the rights and intends to update with a second edition at some point. That's good news. Hopefully, we will get to chance to submit information for potential inclusion about varieties not currently included and also about varieties now confirmed to exist. -
Follow the link in Debbie's post. The stars (or not) are on the right hand side. BTW - How do you navigate to that page without using the link?

e***n should be getting an email in a couple of day saying how the purchaser has been messing about and how would you like it for your top bid. Very probably. Just as a matter of interest, would the details on the relevant e bay page change if that were the case ? If so, it might be worth keeping an eye on it. I don't think that the page is updated in that case. The only way is to wait to see who leaves feedback for that item, although sonofcork doesn't leave feedback for Mr P - so you'll have to draw your own conclusion. -
Make sure that you have the correct driver for the display (should be downloadable from Dell). Otherwise a generic driver will be used and the resulting image may well be scaled incorrectly.

Lol, i won't do that Peter, eventually people will waken up to what they BOTH do. The info on him is around the internet, a lot of people know what they do, so if they want to keep getting burnt then it's up to them. With his UNC grading, he's obviously going to try for top end price. Lets sit back and see where it goes.Any bets on price? I'm going for 4 figures at least It's also interesting that this account is not a business account, but that is clearly what they are doing. eBay are usually pretty smart at making the link between connected accounts. -

It's difficult to be certain, but you'd have to ask yourself what is the reason for bidding like that when there is still more than a day left on the auction. -
1366x768 looks like the one to use. It appears to be the native size of the display and gives the same aspect ratio as full HD (1920x1080).

He would definitely not be impressed if he saw the official Royal Mint 2007 or 2008 proof sovereigns that bear his initials. They are shockingly poor quality. -
Bun head penny album?

Only the sale of gold coins is free from CGT. Don't tell em. It is easily done. Quite so. Who's going to declare the trickle sales of coins? As long as it's within the annual CGT allowance, nobody cares. Even then, the allowance usually applies to individual items or sets. So as long as each individual item sale is below £6k then several sales can be made per year. This is from the BBC website and talks about stamps, but could equally be about coins: Question: I am in my 60s now, and have been building my philatelic stamp collection for over 40 years. Whilst I have not kept records of my expenditure over the period, it has sometimes been substantial. I have now commenced selling my collection gradually on eBay and through some UK auction houses. The proceeds average about £1,500 a month, and could continue to do so for quite a number of years. How do I establish if I have any tax liability in this situation? At present I am also in full time employment and pay tax through the PAYE system. Do I have to report my stamp sales on my self-assessment returns? Answer: Stamps would normally count as assets for CGT purposes and so would be liable to tax on disposal. However, they would rank as "chattels" (tangible moveable property) and would be outside CGT if the proceeds do not exceed £6,000 per item. What "an item" is might be an issue: HMRC do have some anti-avoidance rules to stop someone breaking up a set and selling in stages to keep under that limit. They say that a collection of stamps is not normally regarded as a set even if all the stamps are from one country or are all about a particular theme such as birds. However, if it contains examples of all the values of a commemorative issue or a definitive issue of one country, these will, themselves, form a set. There may be a question of HMRC asking whether you are trading by disposing of your collection in stages. That would lead to income tax. You may be able to escape that by showing that it is the only practical way of disposing; that you did not aim to make a profit when you bought, just enjoyment. But the fact that you are selling over an extended period in regular amounts may cause some problems. Interesting. So for most people CGT won't be an issue (I'd love to have a coin worth > £6k), unless HMRC decides that a collection of Victorian pennies constitutes a set. -

CC grading is as bad as MP in my opinion. Both quote at least one full grade over actual, although MP takes the biscuit on price.

1932 Wreath Crown - Forgery off Ebay
Nick replied to B1Bamster's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Unfortunately this is untrue. Any hammered coins that I report with good evidence before the last 24 hours of the auction are removed. I agree that this might be different with milled coins but many I have reported have also been removed. Sadly (for me and the eventual buyer), none of the fakes that I have reported have ever been removed.
