Thanks josie, That is a good point you make about picture theft though, but I don't know if there is any way around it most pictures can be copied from websites and used unlawfully (unfortunately there are unscrupulous people out there).

Thanks Rob, I have never been good at identifying over dates.

If I do add a forum at all that will be one of the last additions to the site, if at all. I have a lot of respect for Chris and this forum and would never want to take anyone away from it. In fact I am a member of more than one forum at present as other others here. Also because Chris has been so helpful and friendly there will be a link if not many links to his excellent site. I am not trying to compete with anyone here, just trying to make an reference for beginner collectors and anyone else that might be interested. I know it’s going to be hard, but to begin with I only plan on having pictures of regular issue coins and not proofs or proof sets rare varieties etc... Also I am going to only include one picture of each type of coin and not from every year. If I was to attempt to do a coin from each year I would maybe never manage to finish the site. It will also be a free website for anyone to visit. I am not trying to make money just help people who enjoy this great hobby or that are thinking of starting to collect out. Once its up and running if anyone chooses to add a link to it from their website well then I would be most great full.

Thanks everyone! It’s going to take a while, but I am going to tackle it head on and get it running as soon as possible. At first I would like to keep it simple, with pictures of each type of coin (not every year) and I also plan to have another subsection with the grading system and examples of it using pictures (but not every type of coin, maybe just one or two to start with) also another subsection on errors with pictures describing the various errors, and maybe eventually a forum for discussion. I really want to keep it relatively simple to begin with and possibly just start with all milled coins up until George VI with a view to go further back into hammered coins. Once the site is up and running it will be an ongoing project with more and more additions to it. Once again thank you all very much for all your support.

Hi I am trying to create a British coins website. It will primarily be aimed at beginners and people who come upon British coins but are unsure as to what they have, but it could also be an interest to any coin collectors. What I would like is scans or photos of British coins of all denominations. If you donate a picture that I could use on my website I will be most great full, but I will also ad "courtesy of ...." below the picture you can either have your name or a nickname below the picture whichever you prefer. Please email me pictures of your coins plus a note to say you allow me to use them on my website to hmansulo@yahoo.co.uk I thank you all in advance. hussulo P.S. the website isn't up and running yet but it will be called coins.gb.com

Very interesting Rob. Is the 1835 5/4 a rare overdate as I cannot find any refernces to it in any of my books?

Geordie's paintings
Hussulo replied to Geordie582's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
Now if you could make your own coins, that would be good fun. Your right Geordie it is lot cheaper to do, but not always to buy. -
Is the 1835 a 5/4? I don't know Rob here's a pic. What do you think? I know what is realy obvious is that it has a large die crack running from the last l to the s in gulielmus.

Great coins Collector. I may be wrong but I think I have read somewhere that reverse brockages are rarer than obverse ones in British coins. I don't know if its to do with the position of the dies? maybe the obverse dies are at the bottom therefore coins tend to stick to the obverse die more? who knows.

Good luck ken I would love to see your Sovereign.

Here is a picture of a brockage penny I have got. You can tell a brockage coin becouse one side is incuse. A brockage occurs when a coin is struck and then stuck in the system then a new planchet is fed in and struck. What happens is the original coin that was stuck acts as a sort of die and leaves an incuse reverse image on the other side of the second coin. Plaese look at the picture of my penny to see what I mean. P.s. this is a full or 100% brockage you also get partial brockages which only have partial details of the stuck coin imprinted on the new one. Also if anyone has any error, brockage , double headed British coins I would be willing to buy them of you at a good price as I am starting to collect them. Please PM me.

I have a two headed Victoria bunhead halfpence, but it is actually two halfpenny’s that have been either sanded down or cut and then joined at together. It is only slightly over weight but you can faintly see the join mark around the edge. You do sometimes get genuine two headed or two tailed coins which happen as a minting error. I would weigh your coin or check round the outside to see if you can see any join marks.

1802 George III coin
Hussulo replied to Hussulo's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Cheers Chris, Kind of what I susspected, so that was probably the date he made the inscription. Thanks for the conformation there were chartwheel patters made but they were for 1/4d etc and non made in 1802 am I correct? -
Somebody posted this coin on onother form. Is it a fake or a pattern? 1802 cartwheel penny otr two pence? The person more interested in the inscription but is 1802 not an impossible date for such a coin and they are normaly dated on the reverse. So anybody any thoughts? maybe the date has been etched on?

Wow just when I start to think I am understanding "proofs" it seems there is alot more to learn, but I do love this hobby and I'm sure given time I will. It is definetly an interesting field of numismatics.

Thanks Rob, I'm unsure about this 3d now there definetly is a contrast of tone between the bust and feild, however the bust does not appear frosted when observed from all angles like your 6d. I think I might have to go with normal proof striking on this one.
