specific grading guidelines
Emperor Oli replied to kuhli's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I find Wybrit's site (aren't I waxing lyrical!) really good. For the head types, he's described the major points about them - where they wear the most etc. For some of them he even has a checklist for grading! Wybrit's grading tips! -

Wow Chris will be happy his site is "major"!! Wybrit's site is excellent, he has a wide range and I've been browsing it for months now although he hasn't had the stuff I want! Online coins has quite a few good ones too. -

He was just using it as an insult I think, as everyone does. William the Conqueror was also a bastard. -

If they want to join, they can join. Notice that hardly any of the guests who post/join to post pictures ever come back. I think your policy is correct. -

You didn't really answer my question, JMD, what constitutes a mongrel? Is it a half breed I said or is it something else? And also, what type of person is a bastard in your school? Could you explain some characteristics as I find them quite confusing. -
Do we know what the €0.50 is made out of?
Emperor Oli replied to Emperor Oli's topic in Free for all
Hardly embarassing, I just didn't see the article -
I was doing my end of year chemistry test yesterday and I turned the paper over and it had a picture of the 50 cent Euro coin. Apparently itt's made out of an alloy called "Nordic Gold" which has a composition (I can remember this from the exam!) of: Copper 89% Aluminium 5% Zinc 5% Tin 1% Just a bit of trivia there. We had to say why it was a good compound to use and I said because it is resistant to corrosion (because of the zinc) and that it casts well (on account of the tin I think!).

Cupro-Nickel - looks like silver for a fraction of the cost! -

Damn I didn't think anyone would know that! I've read all the articles on the main page - the forgeries etc. but that one seemed to slip me by! Hmph that's peeved me. Feel free to delete this then if it's on your site -

There was a whole street in Newcastle that went for wait for it.......a fiver. It was sold at auction a while ago, if my memory serves. -
Religious schooling
Emperor Oli replied to Master Jmd's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
Never. They promote segregation in communities when the aim of the modern world seems to be cultural integration - making sure families can settle into other communities of which they are not native to e.g Pakistani in Bournemouth. If we continue to allow these religious schools to continue practising, we could see repeats of the race riots witnessed in Oldham and Burnley recently. If they must continue, they should receive absolutely no funding for the government. My grammar school receives pennies from the government purely because it is a grammar school - one needs to pass an entrance exam to gain membership, so naturally some people are prohibited from attending. But why, when religious schools require that their pupils follow the same faith, and automatically deny persons of other faiths than their own do they still receive government funding? I don't agree that "Most Catholics know what Sikhs believe". I have no idea what sikhs believe, and nor do any of my Catholic friends. Creationism, what you believe JMD, is also causing problems in the news. One man, Professor Dawkins or Dawins or something (not Hawking!) is up in arms about it because he says to just teach creationism instead of the theory of evolution is wrong. I'd agree personally. That a person could create the Earth in six days is ludicrous and total folly. I'm totally against this religion malarky. It's just the excuse for many mad things - suing the Police force because a badge on their helmet has a cross on it, campaigning to wear saris etc in schools. Sack the lot of it, and we'd be a helluva lot better off. -

Your fares are so cheap! A friend of mine in the sixth form has to pay, everyday, for about an 8-mile journey return.............£4.70! JMD, mongrels are half breeds, what do you mean by this? -

11+'s are internal examinations so they are not regulated by any exam board like AQA or OCR. For mine I had to do one verbal reasoning paper, an english paper and a science and maths combined paper. JMD, they have existed looong before the fifties. My grandad sat one back in the twenties! There must have been some form of exam after their inception, to regulate the flow of students. After all, it is to give the more intelligent children a mor fitting education and if there was no test, how would the school find out who was, and who was not intelligent? -
Political Parties
Emperor Oli replied to Half Penny Jon's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
Oh I wholeheartedly agree! It's just that UKIP is proposing full withdrawal, which I don't agree with. None of the main parties have a concrete stance on Europe that works, so where we go from here is a mystery! -

Tony Blair getting the sack won't do anything, JMD, big lumbering Gordon will just replace him and implement Blair's policies. UKIP is only doing well because of all the money being pumped into it (they're even asking for a donation of £20 on their site!) and the "celebrities" supporting it, like Joan Collins, who incidentally has a house in France - slightly hypocritical, wouldn't you say? It's been around since 1993 - quite peculiar then that they chave only pushed through in these elections. -
Darn, I was trying to think of numbers that could be easily manipulated into a 3!

In "fairly good" condition, it should therefore fetch about £50-£75. With pictures (scans preferably), the estimate can be more accurate.
