    Edward VIII

We've discussed this in another topic; sets were produced but they weren't sold. Consult p458 of Spink's. A very small number of proof sets were produced, containing coins from the gold five pound down to the farthing. One set has come on the market in recent years. He would have been crowned in May 1937, and a series of coins was prepared for issue at that time dated 1937. In fact, over 200 dies for coins and medals had to be scrapped when he abdicated.
  2. I didn't go into his place I bought on the web. I can't remember exactly what I bought but I got the majority of the 1950s set and about six from the 1940s

    What are your best coins?

That's beautiful, even with the corrosion. And £179 isn't that bad but I bet people can't understand why anyone would pay that for a coin

    Digital Camera for coin pictures.

Bloody hell, you put coins in those claws?!? Doesn't it scratch them?

    Lucky People

Ooh I've had countless extractions - a record (for me) of five in one go. The first time I had a tooth out I had it under general anaesthetic but the latter ones I just had an injection. I didn't like the gas because they just pressed the mask to my face and I was in the middle of inhaling so I spluttered but the assistants held me down until I went out

Oh I've rolled off tables once or twice when I was a baby

    Lucky People

I was born in March (15th March) and i'm definitely not lucky. I was born with a Cleft lip and Palate, a lovely picture of which can be found here (not me btw). However, I had a skilled surgeon who rectified, then I went to a cosmetic surgeon and had plastic surgery (how about that - cosmetic surgery at 1!). In all I've had about £100,000 of treatment on my mouth - I've squeezed tons out of the NHS! Once when I was younger i tripped over an umbrella and I had no shoes on and one of my toenails ripped itself off (not a pleasant experience, I can tell you). Well that's all my worst bad luck....never come up on Premium Bonds either

    What are your best coins?

No, I don't although they're very lucky to have them! Howver an interesting fact about Edward VII: From Charles II onwards a tradition developed of successive monarchs on coinage facing in the opposite direction to their predecessor. There was an exception to this in the brief reign of Edward VIII, who liked portraits of himself facing to the left, even though he should have faced to the right according to tradition. The designs for proposed coins in the Mint collection show Edward VIII facing to the left. The tradition has been restored since the reign of George VI.

    What are your best coins?

Well, patterns were made and only a small number of proof sets were struck but they weren't for sale so I'd imagine only a few exist. They did issue coins in overseas colonies which bore his name but not a portrait unfortunately......

    What are your best coins?

Lol I doubt I'd have the audacity to do that! Spink's say that they weren't issued but there's a picture of one so somebody, somewhere has one at least! I may just fork out some money for an expensive restrike but that takes the fun away I suppose.......

    What are your best coins?

Bear in mind, I only started a few months ago but I need: 1902-1931, 1933, 1935-1939, 1944, 1949 and 1953 but I doubt I'll get the Edward VIII ones anytime soon!
  14. No, I didn't bid in the end as I knew i was going to manchester today so I needed the money!
  15. I'd like to see the obverse of that George III one near the George IV at the top, if it's as good as the reverse it'll be super! Im contemplating buying it......oo only 11m31s to go
  16. Wow weeeeee someone buy these for me!!!!

    What are your best coins?

My scanner's gone dodgy all the colour is out - picture blue farthings and you get the picture! I'll try to get it fixed and post but don't hold your breath! I'm about halfway there. I reckon i'll be finished by Christmas if I keep this pace up! It's the Edward VII ones I'm dreading - it's going to be rather costly
