If we have another auction like that of the Slaney collection, we could see prices shoot through the roof as higher ones are established as the norm but I reckon the previous predictions are sound -

Oh I have! I splurged about £75 a few weeks ago, significantly furthering my goal to get all farthings in BU condition between 1902 and 1956 -

Cartwheel penny (1797)
Emperor Oli replied to Master Jmd's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
We had that explanation for another coin a few weeks ago - sorry to dampen enthusiasm -
This Cartwheel penny looks odd to me - could it be a restrike? Bear in mind that this man (Sharpclaw) sold four "uncirculated" Farthings to me but when I received them they were decidedly VF+ Odd toning in the fields too...

Because the "Scilly isles" has connatations of stupidness, like the "Silly Isles". I guess the other doesn't.....as much!

We have the remains of a Roman fort in our village but that's been excavated to death in recent years so I guess there wouldn't be anything left there
-
I believe the residents of the "Scilly Isles" don't like their archipelago to be called that; i heard they prefer "The Isles of Scilly"

I have a definition from the Mint: "Popular name for a counter or medalet of sovereign size, struck unofficially in 1837, in brass. The figure of St George was replaced by the Duke of Cumberland on horseback with the inscription 'To Hanover' a reference to the unpopular Duke of Cumberland, uncle of Queen Victoria, who succeeded to the Hanoverian throne since Victoria, as a female, was debarred by Salic law from inheritance. "

I don't think so, unless it's rare or has a pedigree, due to the wear on it

Did you know that U.S Federal Agents can open Swiss Bank Accounts? Normall they can't be opened except by the owner but there are three notable exceptions. Three types of activity which the Swiss consider illegal, and are bound by treaty with the United States to "open" the account for possible legal proceedings are: organized crime activities, drug trafficking, and "insider trading" of securities. In instances of this kind, the Swiss authorities have the final say on whether or not to reveal any information. I thought that's quite odd, that a country so neutral as Switzerland would sign such a treaty with a foreign power. By-the-by, the Cayman Islands acutally make more than Switzerland in banking per year
