  1. Mrs. Gallop a.k.a upset, let me try to explain. The reason Chris replied so harshly to your post is because many people come here and post a query, never to follow it up; the vast majority never return. This wastes Chris' and all the other members' time replying to them when nobody comes back to see the results.

Yeah, I don't venture outside British stuff.

    HELP

1/8 d is one-eighth of a British Penny however these were not minted in England. It is a half-farthing I think, one that was only used in the colonies. I could be completely wrong but I'm sure someone will correct me soon if I am!
  5. I would imagine he'd make any spec. as he does huge ones for the British Museum. His site is the aptly-named www.coincabinets.com
  6. If mine got too big, I'd buy the small ones he makes (I think they're called 'Martlet'). They cost around £40 and only hold a small amount so then I'd extract say, all of my threepences from my cabinet and transfer them into that, in a double-blow both freeing up space and organising my collection. I'm so clever
  7. I store mine in a mahogany cabinet made by Peter Nichols. Its sturdy and a spiffing piece of furniture

    Pedant...moi?

Ach nein! Deutsch ist sehr gut.
  9. I did Latin for three years and thorougly enjoyed it. Besides just doing the language, in our text book, Classical Civilisation was interwoven which was/is extremely interesting. I think I have benefited; I can speak it fluently and know where lots of English words have their roots. However, I do think if Latin was to be put on the Curriculum, Classical Greek should also be on (I know that too ). There is a certain mystique with extinct languages that makes them entertaining to study.
  10. Pah! I have nothing to fear - I am invincible!
  11. My birthday is also on 15th March. what a coincidence

    Charles III?

I think i'm right in saying that ol' charlie can't become King if he marries her because she is a divorcee. This is what happened with Edward VIII. However, if he becomes King then decides to marry her, therefore forcing him to abdicate, we'll all have super-rare coinage again!
  13. There is absolutely nothing of substance about him on the internet, as far as page 5 of a google for "Percy Metcalfe" goes......He's a hard guy to track down

    Who needs some help?

It probably says that in my profile because nobody will have heard of a little hamlet sixty miles away called mellor!

I must admit that removing the links etc. has been long overdue as they just aren't willing to answer you.

    Die Axis

Would you say Coincraft is/was the best out there?

    Die Axis

Spink's was the first coin book I bought when really started collecting and it has taught me a few things but some of it still baffles me

    Die Axis

When I first got into coins, the die axis in Spink confused me but then I worked it out.

    Medallion

They are either repros or in really good condition!
  21. I've just got the leaflet through for the new 2004 issues from the Royal Mint. I am horrified. I had a bloody seizure. Has the Mint gone stark-raving mad? The new £2 is abysmal - I cannot stress enough how rubbish it looks. With a steam engine poking around and weird 'power-words' like "invention", "industry" and "progress", you would wish you were blind. Moving on, the £1 is quite bearable. However, looking at the further "Bridge" £1s to be released, I can't help be shocked at the designs on them. The new 50p with Roger Bannister's legs on and a stopclock is extremely boring and not-at-all exciting to the eye. Where has the sculptor's skill gone? Do other people agree with me that these new issues are ludicrous? I have set up a Vote to se how others feel....
  22. They probably couldn't get near enough to him!
