Tgp - Good And The Bad

Charge an extra £100 or not? Hmmmm! To hear people talk, you would think their only interest in numismatics was purely financial! Provenance unnecessarily lost, I totally agree!

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

I think what Stuart is talking about is the 56 bids and £112 price Tag for a £30 coin. A clear example of shill biddingNo, looks to be a straight coin, Paul, on this occasion and, yes, spot on, Dave!

    1935 Threepence

    It's clearly a larger leaf/acorn design, putting the leaves right up against the legend and date! Good major variety find, Dave! ;
  5. I'm just so flipping annoyed at my most recently delivered package 371060410977 (link to seller please!)! It cost .99p (plus £1.25 2nd class 'letter' postage) for two variety 1967 half pennies...OK, so one could argue 'what do you expect'? But for me, this was a seller who knew enough about coins to list the varieties, yet was casual/uncaring enough to post them clanging together through our postal system in a shared plastic wallet...they were clanging like church bells, even picking them up from the post office! Why, just because they cost .99p should the seller pack them without care? I don't want bag marks on my coins, at least not addition ones from slopping packing! If they were £1k per piece that wouldn't happen (I hope)? I put a lot of time and effort into selecting pieces that look half decent, I really don't want to trust in god that they arrive as I saw them in the images, just because I didn't spend £50 on them! I could properly swear about this one...I'm furious!

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Hilarious! Had the presence of mind to determine denomination, monarch, and approximate starting bid, but is conveniently absent minded about the chronology of arguably the most famous king of England!

  8. Just out of interest, does anyone know the relative scarcity, or not, of the D2338 proof (2+C)? Dave G has it down as 4+D but, of course, it was unconfirmed in Davies, but the same coin nonetheless. I only ask as I picked one up the other day!

    Decimal & Pre-Decimal Coins!

For Chris, members, and members yet to join us... I just collected my decimal delivery from my father's today and, can I say, I'm absolutely delighted...softened the blow of selling two of my favourite Liz's and a J1 shilling this weekend! As I mentioned in another post, I just sifted through my brother's change and came away with £8's worth of coins from his £600 savings...comparing these to the 1970's + coins, freshly delivered from Germany, makes me chuck half my brother's coins back into circulation! Point is: many thanks, Chris; a lot of work packing peanut coins, but I have a fabulous wallet full of true BU coins with some grateful FOC coins...thank-you! Other point is: they look damn pretty in BU, I recommend anyone, any visitors, seasoned or otherwise, maybe just having a blip in finances, to give it a go! http://www.predecimal.com/coins-sale-british-decimal-coins-c-51_93.html I bought a few pre-dec Lizzies too! http://www.predecimal.com/coins-sale-british-predecimal-coins-c-51_32.html Bloody delighted!

    Flip Labelling

I used to write just about everything on the front in pen but, as Nordle mentioned, it can detract, hence the reason I never went down the printer software/sticker route! Now I VERY lightly write everything on the flip (still) in pencil...it doesn't detract, and it also means you can rub it all out when it comes to moving it on, or upgrading it! It's my method of choice at the minute...I too keep flips in 2x2 plastic pages!

What is the mark on that museum replica, Does anyone know? I'm not sure. Whether it's an intentional mark or a fault made on the casting of them I do not know. I've emailed 3 people this last 10 days, all selling the same usual 3d copy, and all usually misdescribed, and all accompanied by 'I know nothing about coins'! Here's another one! 331199733370

    My First Slab

I want to take it out for two reasons. 1) The C in NICHOLE looks like an E but it's hard to tell through the plastic. 2) Most British collectors prefer their hammered coins 'raw'. Only two?

    My First Slab

Hacksaw would be good! I've always 'cracked' milled coins out with pliers and pincers, but I wouldn't trust that method with hammered coins!

    How Sad Am I?!?!

it's a good bit of cheap fun! My 1971 halfpenny shines like gold!
  18. Ahh, OK, cheers, chaps...was just wondering, but no longer!
  19. From the pointings of the I of Gratia and the upright of the B of Liz! The then unconfirmed Davies has I to bead, and the B to space...Groom (4+D) Edit: forgot to add...on the, what I presume to be the more common issue, the the B is to bead, and I of Gratia to right of bead!

  22. Yes, has to be the second one! I could live with the nick, but not the hair die! Take Chris up on his offer! I've just had a batch of EII coins delivered by him, and I'm genuinely, genuinely, excited! I guess they are all coins after all!
