    Rolled Up Hammered

Personally, I don't believe they were contemporarily rolled to hide, it would be as easy to discretely hide a flat coin which, in all honesty, would be much easier to spend when needed! In my opinion, there are not enough, obviously heated and rolled, examples to suggest it was a quirk of the period! I've haven't seen a single other example!

Not sure I can perform a screen shot on the iPhone? The images are very grainy, with the sort of edges you'd expect from low res...if I double-tap the image, it enlarges (also in low res)!Could be my phone, Chris, or my wireless download maybe? I'll see if there's a way to capture the resolution view?

OK I'm all kindled up, and works well! Not sure about the images, though, they only show as very low res, pixelated pics on my iPhone?? Great info., however, really like it! Call the e-pub a donation to the pre-dec fund, Chris! All the best!

Does kindle read e-pub? I don't want to now buy the kindle version as well? I've downloaded a couple of free e-pub readers, but none appear to be able to file search my phone for the download?

Collectors Coins, Decimal Issues - Ebook

Just bought the ePub version, but just HOW on earth do I get to read it? I've downloaded the file into something called DGS Dowloader, but can't seem to get any further than that???
  10. Not quite as good IMO, though the bust is overall better! It falls down against the other on account of its incomplete beading and reduced eye-appeal on account of it. Very nice coin, though, regardless!Bust 1F on the '61 is just about the most commonest of 6D's, look out for the rarer bust types on this date! 1571 and '72 with Crown PM are other comparable 6ds for common issue. Thanks for putting it up RPE! Edit: also looks like there might be an old crease vertically in the left obverse field? Difficult to tell on the phone, but the crack in the legend does tend to support?
  11. Just a regular, run of the mill 6d (date/bust-wise), but pretty irregular for grade! 360789730423 I'd have tackled the Beauty Spot if it wasn't the hard, blue, crustacean deposit, that's occasionally found! I had £350-£400 in my imaginary pocket for this one! I do envy the winner! Had to share!

Very Rare Aquatics Withdrawn 50P For Sale.

There must be a fair number of series collectors of decimal coins, looking at the recent activity re the Kew Coins. Came as no surprise to find the more serious amongst them would want the aquatics variety! Just out of interest, Chris, how many serious bidders did you have? Say, those prepared to pay £500 or more?

    Freeing slabbed coin.

I just hold it in hand and nibble the edges off with a pair of pincers! Normally 2 and a bit sides are enough to prize it open enough to drop the coin onto the bed or similar!
  14. They've/you've captured just the right flavour IMHO!
  15. Well done you for getting to uni, and covering off the home essays/assignments/reading with two kids on board! There were a couple of women in my cohort who had kids at the time...amazing!
  16. No, not at all. Can you be more specific?Mark Sorry, design software for the site! Is it a drag n drop design with integral shopping cart provided by the host? Or is it bespoke, dream weaver, or home-built with HTML etc?
  17. That is a nicely designed site, Mark...what are you using, if you don't mind me asking?

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Link Click on link, get taken by browser directly to webpage.key Command-[ when done, to go back.No link move mouse to beginning of eBay item number, drag through to end and then click Command-C to copykey Command-T to open new tab in browserclick eBay button in browser's bookmark barsign in to 'My eBay' (which is where the button takes me)click in eBay Search field, then key Command-V to paste eBay item number click Searchkey Command-[ 2 or 3 times when done, to go back. You could just paste it directly into the eBay home page, you don't have to sign in.It's a real pain for iPhone uses, as eBay will not let you take a link! It's possible to add links for just about every other webpage you come across, just not the eBay pages for some reason! Really sorry about that, Peck, it does rely on others kindly adding the link, which I myself always do for others if I'm on a PC and have viewed the eBay item in question! It's a nightmare, don't be cross with us poor smartphone users! I still want to join in!

    I've Gone And Done It.

I was still put out to have 2 coins (around the 1k mark each) snubbed! It was quite a shock to have an 'unfortunately' email from them!

  21. That's a lovely note SM, what date is it? What would a mint one of those cost today?
  22. Welcome aboard, Arthur, I hope you'll stay with us a while! Your clear love of history is precisely what links most of us here on this forum together, regardless of our fields of interest! We have a number of regular US contributors here, who also collect UK/English/Scottish/Irish coinage, so you're not SO far from home. In answer to one of your questions: typically, a low-grade rarity is still a low-grade coin, and doesn't necessarily attract a massive premium...however, there are some exceptions to this rule, where even washers, provided they are identifiable, will command a high price! You'll soon pick up on what they are if you read around the old posts here! To start you off, the 1903 (open 3) penny is always popular!

    Recent aquisitions

Nothing like embracing something wholeheartedly, TG! Just out of interest, what's your primary source of reference for your new series? Also, have you located any finer reading that further details the rarities/dies etc.? Comparatively, I would say Spink, North, BCW (if you know what I mean) as major ascending, with BNJ articles, etc. as supplementary.
  24. Could be, Scott? However, as you know, a better (or another) example would need to come to light to confirm??? It would be a relatively easy die to source, I'd think, as the lettering on GVLIELMVS, especially the S, makes it pretty distinctive? You're the man to find it, Scott! You'll have enough W3 copper to cover all the dies at the rate you're going!
  25. That's bizarre! Twists the mind to even fathom how that might've happened!
