  1. Hah, yes, I replaced the disc drive in my wife's mac about 5 year's ago...the number of screws, and ALL different lengths and counter, etc. etc. Unbelievable, but satisfying!
  2. I think your instincts re socket is good! Whilst I've not fiddled inside a laptop too much, I do remember that there is some kind of process for 'demagnetising' or de-staticing, whatever it's called, the computer before opening it up, to avoid charges, I think, transferring to some component or other! It's straight forward, and totally understandable, I just can't remember what is was, just worth a quick google about cracking the case, if you're not familiar with it????????

    Rough Vic Farthing 1850?

Ah, yes, but not with an unaffected 0 to follow though surely? I'm talking blind now, so don't string me up:)...I can easily comprehend an 1850/49 etc, etc, but are there such overdates as 1850's over 1840's or their equivalents?
  4. Reminds me of one time I was checking on what my son was looking at on the computer. Turns out he was looking at youtube.com - he must have had a difficult time finding what he wanted to look at because he couldn't spell "breast" right and spelt it as "brest". I wasn't mad because of what he wanted to look at but he has never lived down not being able to spell a part of the feminine anatomy correctly. Now he is getting ready for college and I still bring up that incident from 7-8 years ago. That's great! I was too busy trying to spell baksyde myself! LATEST NEWS Stuart comes out live on predecimal. You crack me up! I of course meant l'm a ligs and arz MAN myself!

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

I used to do that! We should find a way of leaving clues in feedback, so that we can all visit and get an idea of past satisfaction from respected members...a bit like leaving a notch on the gate post, or a sign to the next camp!

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

And, oddly, my past auctions that originally completed as 'private' (sorry to those who disapprove), now display in my feedback with full details of coins, bids, etc.????Just to clarify, I adopted a private profile, not to be deceptive, but more to protect my own exploitation!!! I've got a couple of 'creative' accounts (driftwood, art, jewellery, etc.), which have endlessly been undermined by copying! Now, I can't complain about this, because whenever I see a good idea, I straight away dive into the feedback to see just how good an idea it really is and, then, of course, I replicate it! I now go private to prevent such discredible behaviour distastefully bouncing back against my own darn decent self...guess it just stuck and became standard practice!

Ahh, OK, this is what was making me wonder what was going on with the FB thing, haven't viewed it on Windows yet?

    George Coins

Thanks, Paulus, I've only 'reserved' 2 coins, everything else is free for all! As will be the next 100 G5 and G6 pieces, good and bad alike!
  11. I am going to start using them, but I haven't done so yet ... what's the insurance like?Same levels as the RM! For heavier packages, above a letter I mean, they've cornered the market! Do look them out...truly impressed!

    Rough Vic Farthing 1850?

You'd be asking a lot for that to be a 4, making the die 10 year's old (after doing a stint)! You'd also be needing other numerals to be involved, unless you are suggesting 1840/50?? Edit: sorry, 50/40
  13. Very nice indeed for you Thames' chaps!
  14. MyHermes in the UK is just the best small/medium package option ever! They even collect from your house at less than half the PO rate! Used them 4 times...really, really, impressed! And so grateful not to be a slave to the PO who change their parcel measurements and prices each year to capitalise on the eBay market!
  15. They can simply reject it on the ground that it has been previously cleaned! I am not certain it makes much difference if it get slabbed by cgs or not as LC states that they will give a full refund if any of their auction items turns out to be a fake. If one wants to make a point, then send it to PCGS aftwards to see if it get certified as "genuine". And you know that's just hilarious! How do you prove it a fake to L, and get a hearing, other than by offering them bad publicity in a very important market such as here? If it won't make the slab on account of cleaning, they are happy bunnies in every respect...they get another £20+ off of you, just for telling you to p**s of* and take your cleaned coin elsewhere! With only 1 in 5 coins slabbed by them, they would've leapt on this like heather on a Mc'cartney, for profit...for certain!
  16. In light of its many questionable areas! So, yes, LC, what gives this coin its unquestionable, many qualified observations, its genuineness?
  17. With there's a confirmed 1 and rejected 5, CGS have set a worrying precedent but, fortunately, they must, as a result, know what they're doing, suggesting they are 100% confident in this sovereign, which is why we can buy it and get it slabbed by CGS? They'll never stick it in a slab, of course, because they know 100% that they are trying it on, and loath the attentions of 'bodies' such as these! I feel certain that LC would not miss out on the hyper-value that's attached to a slabbed coin of this rarity, unless they were sapless to take it on...it's pennies to them, for christ's sake! I truly hope any winning bidder reads this thread, and then submits it, and then has the balls to string them out to dry! Any serious buyer of a 1917 London Mint Sovereign will find this thread, and good on them!

    Just An Idea

You have been my biggest influence Rob! I recommend you and your views to all newbies It can get out of hand though At the moment, I have the following numbers of boxes to tick. People in whose name or under whose authority a coin was struck - 251 Denominations, either circulating or in pattern form, used or struck in this country - 130 Attributed designers - 173 Mint locations - 152 Privy or mint marks including overmarks - 327 Errors - 21 Metals/Alloys used - 50 Metal provenances - 11 Minting processes - 8 Misc features - 45 Type examples or too nice to sell - As many as I want The list could never be completed, is regularly extended and the diversity means there is always something to go for. Combine that with an attempt not to replicate designs and it is quite difficult - and fun. Totally off your rocker! I will get to shake your hand one day!

    Just An Idea

That sounds like fun, Goom, wish I could join you! To get the very best out the experience, my advice would be to use it as a numismatic education too. Namely, rather than rushing out and buying lots of coins in an excited frenzy, leaving you with a backlog of coins you can barely get a chance to catalogue properly; I'd instead pick my coin (example: say George III Halfcrown) and put the 'proper' legwork into it and learn about the mint, check out the past sales for references, see what counterfeits are around, track down some interesting articles from the BNJ, get some academic understanding about it first etc. etc. It would be so exciting to approach the whole project historically, at least that would be my approach! Denomination? I'd probably not tie myself to that but, instead, would go for what I found attractive. You can at least then navigate around some of the more popular denominations in expensive reigns! Enjoy! Lucky you!

So, is that the end of private feedback? Edit: Sorry, I meant private listings?

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Yep. I'm not happy about it at all. This will merely serve to encourage more shill bidding. Which secretly serves eBay just fine!
