  1. Eye watering, but true!!! Unbelievable...we are fools to ever think we know it all, and that life is straight forward!
  2. I just don't see what purpose they serve overseas (or here, for that matter), why would somebody want a fantasy piece, when they can get something genuine? Is it a gift for relatives scenario abroad, on account of "what else do you buy them", or is it ignorance to the fact that 'genuine' coins are still in existence? I find it odd! Even stranger than the immeasurable "thunk" that is the coin collector!
  3. Oh, B'Jesus, they come in varieties and die-pairs? Edit: Oh, Gary, no, not you AND Peck?
  4. I think you are being overly critical here, there are also Scarce AND Superb coins in the inventory!
  5. I'm waiting for my second instalment, I think it's in this lot. I think you're right, it's the third piece in at 4 O'Clock! Good spot!
  6. Great for those who wish to buy coins in instalments!
  7. We ALL love 'em, just haven't the capacity to study everything! This forum wouldn't be the forum it is, if we couldn't read about something new! I personally love the variety 'diggin' in' even if I'm lost!
  8. Peck! Now I'm lost and confused, I'm giving this all up, it's just too stressful!
  9. Big thinker, not from the mould! Shame!
  10. http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=158370 Blinkin' 'eck, puts Dave's dinner plates to shame...they're still downloading even.......................................................................now!
  11. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140874274011?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D140874274011%26_rdc%3D1
  12. This is what I use! Edit: in the 6 per page A5 numis albums! Perfect for portability and, most importantly, browsing!
  13. Hah, you are SO bad...they're already off!
  14. "Consignment" is total submission per auction. Presumably your two coins would have been fine with others making weight? Yes, I would say so...but that's a remarkably privileged position they find themselves in, that they can turn their nose up at a grand's worth of coins or, putting it a different way, around £300 of profit (buyers & sellers prem.) from handling 2 coins! I was genuinely surprised!
  15. I always thought this: and of course, whatever excuse, this... were very pretty coins! (albeit the 2nd coin is a 'retoning' coin, though I am certainly in no mood to rush it )
  16. Yes, I meant that it'd be odd to use such a punch on Elizabeth's coins and, even if it were used, it would be a most unusual place for it as it doesn't fit in with the design and doesn't strike me as a 'countermark'. TimeLines told me that their 'coin experts' believed it to be a letter E. I'm still not convinced. Nor I...someone arsing around I reckon!
  17. This is fun...just picked up my W&W lot today, and thought I'd share the packaging!
  18. Whilst odd to use such a punch of Edward posthumously it strikes me as more odd that it is used in such a location on the coin. I think we've got crossed wires, as the punch was used posthumously on the Edward coins in the Elizabeth reign! If it was the greyhound punch on the sixpence, it could only ever have been someone messing around at the mint, so its purpose and location on the coin would be meaningless anyway! It's too unlikely to be a possibility, of course!
  19. You can also get those foam/plastic rings as 'grippers' I believe?
  20. "Thank you for your interest in Heritage Auctions. Unfortunately the item you have submitted does not meet our minimum value threshold for sale at auction or for direct purchase. Our minimum consignment value is $5000."
  21. Now here's a turn up for the book! I have a couple (two) coins of around a £1000 the pair, which I thought I'd submit to Heritage to try them out! I received an email today apologising that they couldn't accept my submission, as it didn't meet their minimum requirement of $5000!
  22. This forum is pretty damn awesome, is it not?
  23. As for the countermark, it does appear rather odd. I'm still not convinced. I've requested larger images, but we'll see. As an aside, can someone else type timeline originals into Google.co.uk and let me know what the second suggestion is? As you can imagine, there are not a lot of image resources for the countermarked coins of E6. I've circled the regions which particularly caught my eye. There's not enough to go on unfortunately and, what looks especially similar between the two coins is, in fact, part of Edwards tunic/armour. I doubt we'll ever know and, even if we did, why anyone would be playing around with an old punch at the mint is anyone's guess! Thanks, Clive, for securing the image!
