  1. Is there a spink-style catalogue or web resource for jettons? Also, why would people of the period buy a sizeable copper token, just to use as, well, a token? Why not just use the money itself? Unless of course they used a 30mm copper Jetton as a shilling, perhaps?
  2. Maybe Baldwin's have consented to it? The thing I don't get, however, is how Fraser hopes to sell the coin at all! I mean you'd hardly be shelling out 10's of thousands without at least a little research? Even a basic search would find out the Baldwin version, given the descriptors are identical! Looking at the number of adverts and borrowed news items, I'd say he's more interested in site traffic for his dosh, rather than the physical hard sales of 'antiques'!
  3. In excellent form this evening, Peter!
  4. I'm so sorry, I just couldn't help it...checkout the obverse of this VF sixpence! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1561-A-D-Queen-Elizabeth-I-England-Tudor-Period-Hammered-Silver-Sixpence-Coin-VF-/350879237144?pt=UK_Coins_BritishHammered_RL&hash=item51b2084418
  5. After all, it appeared to be a compilation of news from other sites. Not just news, apparently! And, yes, horrible pop-ups, adverts, and borrowed news everywhere!
  6. Easy. When you go to the forum click on the Circle or Star to the left of the topic title. That'll take you the first unread post. Excellent! Many thanks!
  7. Thanks, TG, will take a look! I do get the page numbers, and last page option...was just trying to save a few clicks and a bit 'O' scrolling!
  8. Well, oddly, that's what it says here! http://www.baldwin.co.uk/coins/great-britain/siege-pieces/charles-i-carlisle-siege-shilling-1645.html?usrc=1 Good spot TG! So, is Paul Fraser just chancing his luck and hoping to get a commission deal for dotting the i's on a sale? Also, I know Peter mentioned the 'for issue' issue, but surely Baldwin's are above this nonsense...aren't they?
  9. Absolutely! I think a grade for hammered is pointless full-stop, even though it obviously has one hidden in there somewhere! I think you had it spot on with your earlier rendition in another thread! Hammered are graded in my book as: - is it alright? - do you like it? - do you like it a lot? - do you repeatedly go back to it time and time again? - are you prepared to be skint to have it? - are you so desperate to have it that you have to lie to the wife (and yourself) to get it? - nothing matters, you've just got to have it (and you kid yourself you can always get the money back in the future)!
  10. Is there any way I can filter things so I'm directed automatically to the NEW posts on a long-running thread, when using the PC? My phone always goes appropriately to the last page/post! On the PC, if I click on 'view new content' I get taken to a page with say 'coin acqu.' 'ebay laughs' etc. Now, when I click on one of those, I get very nicely directed to the beginning of the thread which, in the case of 'coin acquisition,' is a long way away from where I want to be! Any ideas?
  11. Now that's what you call a busy-looking webpage! Some rarities there, but I can't really give you anywhere near 'bold VF' on this one http://store.paulfrasercollectibles.com/Charles-I-Carlisle-Besieged-Shilling-Coin-p/pt324.htm
  12. Peter, I will be exhibiting for the first time ever at coinex this year, I have done the other London shows, I think the main difference with Coinex is that you get more international dealers and collectors, though it will be very interesting!! I will try to give feedback after the show or maybe even during the show if it is that quiet and I am bored ;-)Look forward to that, NRP, it'll be interesting to hear about, in light of what we are seeing in the auctions presently.Good luck and multiple sales!
  13. Colin, Just as a point of interest, I'm guessing you already know about StJames' 0% commission on lots over £1k?
  14. Or maybe when the realised prices get released?
  15. Just out of interest, does anyone know the hammer of 315 at StJames'?
  16. Couldn't agree more, Jaggy!
  17. Ahh, now, to be fair, to be sure, I was only laughing at the gist of it, ossifer!
  18. Peckris is over 100 and he's up to date on Computers True. I was only saying to Alan Turing the other day that IBM really should move out of calculators into the new Sperry-Rand valve machines - can't let ENIAC take all the credit You're great, Peck, you crack me up!
  19. Crikey and blimey, good for you!
  20. Yes, do stay aboard, Neil! Speaking for myself, without the wealth of knowledge I have come across on here, coin collecting would never have been as rewarding as it's turned out to be! I believe your experience would enhance, what is already an amazing forum. PS I too would be interested to receive your PDF lists and updates! PM sent
  21. Yes, much better, doesn't look polished in that one!
