Doing the search to find it, brought up a lovely 'moody' looking coin by coinageofengland, what a lovely tone! As a matter of just seeing what 1599 quality's out there, I couldn't find much! Blimey, these 1599 Anchor Sixpences go well, I watched one go through last week! Of course they're rare, and you don't see them on eBay very often, but I just couldn't part with that much money for a coin that looks like either of these, EVEN with an I Brown provenance (I would like at least ONE of his 'decent' coins, though!). To be honest with you I didn't pick up on the marks, I was really struggling with the grotty silver bit that was proximal to it! Definitely one for sunglasses but, hey, what a price, around 8 X the price of the regular dates! Makes you wonder what a pretty VF would fetch?

Is there a spink-style catalogue or web resource for jettons? Also, why would people of the period buy a sizeable copper token, just to use as, well, a token? Why not just use the money itself? Unless of course they used a 30mm copper Jetton as a shilling, perhaps?

It is a little more unusual, but Peckris is 100% correct and, given the sheer volume of these tokens, I wouldn't say they are collected enough that a slightly rarer variant would be financially appreciated!Edit: seuk could be interested?
