How To Run A Customer Caring Coin Business
Coinery replied to Colin88's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Yes, do stay aboard, Neil! Speaking for myself, without the wealth of knowledge I have come across on here, coin collecting would never have been as rewarding as it's turned out to be! I believe your experience would enhance, what is already an amazing forum. PS I too would be interested to receive your PDF lists and updates! PM sent -

Can Someone Help Me Identify This Coin Please?
Coinery replied to becksflorin's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
From my phone it's difficult to put a price on! However, it does look like it may have been polished??? just from the way the light falls on the coin, and its general colouration?Would you say that, in-hand, it has the appearance of say a brass item that's been buffed with brasso? Really difficult to describe it, really, I hope you know what I mean? Others may be able to rule that out for you if they are viewing a full-res image? Edit: For reference the spink guide is £50VF £250EF £650UNC -
How To Insert Pictures Into A New Topic?
Coinery replied to ChKy's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
It is certainly possible to post pictures directly here - go to the Beginners forum and there is a 'pinned' topic at the top explaining how to do it. Pleased to see there's a pinned thread about it, Peck. I remember we discussed the matter and the different ways of posting pics here, a few months back, and I believe we concluded that the best way was indeed, copying and pasting the image link onto the post, direct from whichever image hosting site was being used.By the way, superb 1866 and 1902 sixpences above. Thanks '49, here's the obverse (it's also my avatar) as an excuse to practice this technique. Thanks Nick, Stuart and HC also, I don't mind people viewing my entire Photobucket library but pics without the links are definitely better! Phwoooar! -
How To Insert Pictures Into A New Topic?
Coinery replied to ChKy's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Having just added that picture, I see the issue. It's those f***ing url tags again. The easiest way around the issue is to copy the "Direct Link" option and then use that with the "Insert image" from the toolbar.Yes, you've also got to watch that Paulus because, when I click on your image, I can visit all 41 of your photobucket images, including those pictures of that woman taking a shower across the other side of your street! If you copy and paste the photobucket image link directly into the text field, just remember to delete the URL part...namely, and I'm trying to guess now, as I'm not on the PC, but the box at the end of the image info. And the long bit at the beginning with the URL tag involved in it! I'm sure someone on a PC can post up an example?? -
Seen and heard it all now! On the phone, so what is it? I'm guessing 1(9)02 E7 empire coin, or medal/commemorative????

We'll be seeing a few interestingly toned coins on the circuit shortly, then?

I know exactly where you're coming from, it was a shock for me too!

What? All wind and wuthering?

I know - I raised the same thing just after the new forum launched! I was most indignant that it was on my profile but no-one else's Turns out that we can each only see it on our own profile. Apparently we can be warned (by Chris? ) for minor transgressions.. Presumably they are like a yellow card - accumulate too many and you get sent off - which begs the question, why are Dave and I still here? lol !!! ~ this forum is actually very civilized compared to most. I should say! You should see the fixes that some of the canal boat forums get themselves into! This is all positively Jane Austen on here!

Cgs Rejects/coins Not Worth Paying To Grade
Coinery replied to rpeddie's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
always does make me think about this aspect of it as last time i spent about £450 grading the 30 odd coins and could have spent that on even more coins if not send to be graded. with regards to graded ones, ive never been to coin fairs and the likes but are there stalls where they sell graded coins and also do they seem to do very well?think im still getting over how unpopular graded British coins are Coin fairs are generally populated by those who've transcended the need to have an item graded for them so, whilst I've never even sold a burger at a coin fair, I'd say I wouldn't be backing my beer money on a table dealing only in slabs! Could be wrong, mind you! -

The one's they send back in a little plastic flip with a sticker on it, probably covers the annual invoice for plastic slabs! -

You've got to be kidding? In a commercial world, the answer to that is most definitely no! In the real world, they never told me I had a few freebies! -

Hah, CGS, this'll be popular! Now, where does one start? Actually, it's a good reason to stick with hammered, though I believe they are now attempting those too! Basically, WHY? And then after that, all that's left is about turning the same coin into the same coin, but for someone else, which means we're only talking about the commercial aspect of slabbing? So, slabbing coins under the value of actual slabbing fee + extra profit made through inflated prestige of a slabbed coin just isn't viable! Slabbing higher-value/grade coins, yes, believe it or not, someone will pay a fools random for it! I sent off around 20 some time ago, of which 3 or 4 came back unslabbed! An 1887 jubilee coin, declared a fake, which tested for high-grade silver composition, and I still to this day don't get it! A G4 farthing with 'active' verd????? didn't get that either! And a variety C2 farthing, which they graded SO low, it wouldn't financially stand amongst its peers, so I broke it out, and sold it amongst its peers! Big thing, I'd only slab to sell to those who don't know their coins, for hard bucks, so I can understand why you need to find all this out, as it's a bloody great waste of time (long, long, time!) and money otherwise! Ohhhh, TPGC's what have you done to us? -
Talisker for me, please! Or a gran reserve Rioja, not fussy which!

I'M interested in buying/seeing/hearing about modern fakes and contemporary counterfeits of the Tudor period, especially Elizabeth, of course! Ironically, one of the great things about buying and taking an interest in fakes, is that you don't end up buying fakes (mostly)! So, I'm interested in seeing ALL Tudor fakes, so I can scare myself with what quality is about, but would buy any Elizabeth fakes/counterfeits that I haven't got or already know about. Seuk has been tipping me off about those that he spots (many thanks, I did win those 2 lots incidentally), so any other eyes and tip-offs would always be appreciated! One of my regrets in life is handing back to W&W the best counterfeit groat I've seen, in exchange for £50 off a lot price...what was I thinking! -
Not sure about that soldery-looking blob, either! Don't worry Stuart. It's been lovingly described as "The coin has not been cleaned and displays natural tone alover." Ahh, a natural toned lover, it's been such a long time! Though I do prefer mine cleaned!

Help with 8over7over6 Sixpence!
Coinery posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I've picked up a CR-2 obverse sixpence, but could do with thoughts on the reverse overdate to clarify whether it is a CR-a or CR-b reverse? The two reverses are separated by only two kinds of overdate...a 1578/7/6 (CR-a), or 1578/7 (CR-b ), they share all the other identifiers, shield, lions, lis, leaves, etc. If anybody knows for an image of a 1578/7/6, or where I could see/get one, then the issue can be cleared up quite simply, as there is reportedly only ONE single die for this treble combination. My overdate is the top one, I've put a few other pictures in to assist the grey matter...it's the tiny bump over the top right-hand edge of the seven that sparked my imagination, could this be the upper-most tail of a six? I know it's easy to imagine all kinds of things with these 'marks,' but any input OR the actual image of the treble-date would be most grateful. I'm pleased with this coin and would love to put the classification of it to bed!
