  1. I've just started collecting the G6 coins as a trust fund for my son! We figured the coins can mostly be bought at a reasonable sum, and would provide a reasonable return after 20-30+ years, hopefully, so I'll be following this one with interest! I'm not home at the moment - does DG's book clarify? I should also add, it'll cheaply satisfy the collectomaniac in me!
  2. You're not on your own! I had also starting looking through a couple of my old images to see if I could pair anything up! Doh!
  3. The Pearce kind of provenance?
  4. Me too, not for me at all!
  5. Hello Azda, the coin was graded as UNC 80. It has very good eye appeal displaying light grey and gold toning over original mint brilliance. IMO the coin hasn't achieved higher grade because of very slight cabinet friction on the obverse and weak reverse striking which only affects a few small parts of the central reverse design. Saying that the weak reverse striking is usual on this date and issue (reverse striking of the piece from forthcoming Herritage Auction – lot 20905, MS 65 PCGS - is even worse). A CGS UNC 80 with great eye-appeal? You've got to go a long way to find one of those! A beautiful coin, the kind of quality we should all be aiming for!
  6. Hah, drinking a Hobgoblin as I read this!
  7. In all fairness to John however London Coins stated the coin was 'around' the fine mark, rather than 'almost' or any of the other variants! In a vaguely similar vein, I do wish auction houses could be relied upon to get grades right themselves. I've learnt the hard way, never to pay more than EF prices for UNC coins, unless you've seen the coin in person!
  8. I know that scene, I'll think of the monastery around the corner in a bit! Got a caravan park on there... Or at least they did in '98
  9. Many thanks for doing the spadework. Our daughter has just informed us that we have two extras for Christmas dinner who are doing the same on-call shifts as she is- one Omani muslim and an Indian vegetarian Double pigs in blankets all round. I've been told my next task is not to do a 'Duke of Edinburgh' Merry Christmas everyone. Hah, send them down to us, I'm making a warm-spiced nut roast, wrapped in plaited puff pastry, even as I write! I take it she's a health professional? They are all doctors. Best call of the season. Resuscitation on tap while we keep on drinking and they can't. Perfect, you can always get a lift into work, if you come over a little strange 'er' ! Never envied a medic...ever! Have a good one !
  10. Nice one, Dave! Have a good Christmas!
  11. Bah, humbug! Or, in my case! Cheers! At 6% it'll be bye-bye to Christmas day for a few Christmas Eve revellers! The problem with those strong ales is they are generally a tad sweeter, and so SO God-damn easy to drink!
  12. Tim recommended this site to me. Ray Hamson's name pops up quite a bit in his book, he's been responsible for quite a few of the addenda additions! Great site! You're getting ready, Dave, I can tell!
  13. So, yes, I guess the time is here, to wish you all a fabulous Christmas with great cheer and BEER! Not forgetting CIDER AND Talisker!

  15. Decent coins and he always seems to get good prices for his listings. I wonder if I should get him to sell my stuff too!?! He certainly does, £51 for a £30-book C1 farthing too! That sixpence wasn't even that good either! He can certainly sell mine too! I always speak to someone called Heather when I've dealt with them???
  16. Afraid not (it went for £51 in the end), but it is my mission to snaffle one that you would like it your collection!
  17. Excellent b'rap!
  18. Now a straight 1564 date without the 4/2 is a rarish thing, but I wasn't expecting over £200! It's not THAT good, surely? 370696830493
  19. I did like the sharp beading on this one, is it your's?
  20. I'd love to document all the Liz forgeries that turn up, alongside the lifetime Elizabeth Project I'm working through at the moment! Have you seen the thread 'Elizabeth Die Study'? That's where I'm at currently, but recently buying anything suspicious, almost in the hope of discovering a new counterfeit to document! I think seuk's got G3 covered, we need something similar going on for all the areas, and then centralize it all
  21. There are so many fakes on the Pre-decimal website that it makes me wonder whether Chris is the 'M' behind it all! Are you watching that Maltravers farthing Stuart? Yes I was, the one with different mintmarks ob & rev (blencoe)? It's apparently a common Everson type 3, so I didn't want to go beyond the £28 I think it was the last time I looked!
  22. Yes, take it easy Ski, and have a good one!
  23. Here's a better image...it's good, isn't it!
