    double struck?

It's certainly a distinctive R, not entirely down to a double strike I think. I believe we'll find it in part on other coins. We'll have to keep an eye out!

    double struck?

The limb of the cross is also slightly doubled. I wonder whether it's an attempt to sink a composite R using what's available? Is the curved leg of the R an apostrophe punch I wonder? The way to explore it further is by first finding (or not finding) a second example of the die, which would then highlight whether the letter is intensional or simply doubled? That would save any speculation from the outset...then you can better unpick what is there!

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

I love it that the close-up image of the 'round' beads exists only because of the verd obscuring the rest of the teeth! ?
  4. I think you've already researched this way beyond any contribution I could make, Rob! Interesting stuff, though!

    Edward III Penny

The legend certainly has it as a Treaty Series penny, what are your concerns? I confess to never having researched the edIII series in any great depth, so wouldn't know if continental coins existed for this reign. Time for a bit more reading! ?

    Edward II penny?

Class 11b, as per Mr P's BsE coin recently posted, except his is the slightly shorter face, hence 11b1 if you've got the Galata guide the picture in the centre of page 39, "11b large face, rounded chin" is the one! ?

    Edward II penny?

It's class 11 and looks fine to me! I'm watching some of the other coins this seller is listing. Unusual to see a number of better grade coins for sale at the same time!

    1846 sixpence. 6/0?

The left hand point of the underlying 4 on John's coins points nearly halfway up the top loop of the 8 though?

    Short cross classification help

Many thanks, Stu, what year was it published, will look it up. ? Anyone else looked at it?

    1846 sixpence. 6/0?

That was going to be my comment, which means a high 4 is presumeably out there on another year? Whatever the finding, it'll be a very wide and stand-out last digit we'll be looking for on another die! Love coins and single malt, a very pleasing combination, even though I say so myself! So glad you're back, John! ?

Cool, and good work! What's short cross legends? You've got me intrigued! ?

    Have you tried Rob?
  13. There is a reason. I've read it somewhere, but can't think where, and can't think what, if that's any help? ? You're such an academic, coinery!

    Posting coins to Australia

I've always put 'numismatic items' or 'die-cast metal disks' on the paperwork... ...and always tell the PO that they are gaming tokens if they enquire further! ?

Brilliant! You don't see too many in collectable grades! ?

    Edward III Penny

Great evening, thank-you, and head was surprisingly crystal clear in the morning! Would love to see the ACTUAL reverse when you get it! ?

    Edward III Penny

Cheers, Mick! Yes, a massive milestone, really struggling to get my head around it! I'm reliably informed that 50, 60, and 70 are the new 30 and 40! I felt nothing about being 30 OR 40, but 50 is tough! Pressies? Joined the sailing club in Frampton, a few beers, and a bite to eat with the family...game of cards to finish (30p up), a perfect birthday! ?

I wonder who snaffled it? A perfectly acceptable Class 1 Henry III went as well 332374030300 . I would've liked the H3 myself. ?

Why thank-you, Sir! And please do call me Stuart, Stu, Stewpot, anything you like, really! ?

Just looked on eBay! They've got the wrong reverse image, it's probably a London as per the description.
