SLIPPERY! However, this is a most unusual example as there is a considerable incidence of reflectivity to both sides of the coin - this is difficult to illustrate on static images - If there were such a coin as an impaired proof issue for this date - WHICH THERE IS NOT - then you could be mistaken into thinking this was one such example - Has the coin perhaps been lightly polished at sometime in the past - Maybe, but it really does not seem to exhibit the expected hair-line scouring that you would expect to observe

The 1906 Penny was sold by "topcarp"....that is John Jerrums! Now, I have bought from Top carp2 myself (and I confess I didn't look at the seller), but that is a slippery sale if ever I saw one!

Nothing to detract for me, Paul, a nice well-balanced and pretty coin! Not my area but an obviously nice coin!

Rob won't be there. I've been told I'm having a short break. Didn't see that coming. Enjoy the break! Can't be all bad if she-in-doors is arranging it?
-
I do believe the bronze penny is enjoying something of a comeback on here recently!
-
On fire Jerry! Enjoy the fair...pass on my regards to Rob! Make sure you've got plenty of time on your hands as Rob is a walking numismatic encyclopedia. Which means, unless you're bent double with a library on your back, he's very difficult to counter!

Just spent 5 mins studying the images and, having made my mind up it's bad, went on to read the description. C'mon, don't bullshit your way around NOT saying it's a ballsed up coin. There is just no point at all! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1906-Penny-Edward-V11-1902-1910-Unusually-Sharp-Strike-Lustrous-British-Milled-/331617104230?hash=item4d35eb7166

Have you got a photo? -
Again I just can't believe the stability of the drone, and the consequent filming.

That looks like a 4 underneath that 6? The 2 looks tampered with too?My penny knowledge is not top-notch, and I can't be doing with digging the books out, but would a 3 beneath the 2 also be something worth looking at? -
You are the one single exception to the rule that I've heard of so far! Just sending a batch so need to keep her smiling

I'm amazed at the stability of the image. Very impressive.

What Dave says is also true of local antique auctions. You can always find half a dozen sovs a month going through the local auctions. The interesting bit, again as Dave mentioned, is that they rattle through, more or less at the bullion value for gold. Now, if you take a close look at these coins, you will find Fine going for the same value as AUNC.

Ah, I see! Anyway, with a name like bunhead, you won't need to introduce yourself, you'll be popular from the outset. Welcome aboard!

Which Zds were they, I've just reread the entire thread? Hi Bunhead?

A very generous heads-up for the penny boys, I sincerely hope it goes to a forum member! Thank-you Michael! -
Suspicious as hell to me!Also, it was the sellers responsibility to refund you, and make the claim against the post office! They would probably have blown him out for inappropriate/poor packaging, but that's his cherry to suck, not your's. You shouldn't have been out of pocket!

Thanks! It's a teeny-weeny bit out of focus, believe it or not, but great for showing details like these, and SO much better than drawn images. As much as I love BCW's work, their line-drawings of the Elizabeth I busts (the same ones you see in Spink's) don't assist a tenth compared to a photographic image of the bust itself.
-
I of course meant ornament not fleur!
-
The broken left fleur is a dead giveaway for crown 11, so not difficult at all on this occasion. This crown here has a few distorting dings, but is the same punch 11 as yours.

Thank you - Spink 1456 - E with angular back ? Yarp!

Or did it get lost?I've had numerous approaches after an auction has finished, sometimes offering me a significant amount more than the final eBay price! In a slightly different way it happened to me quite recently with a rare E1 Halfgroat that Dave won of mine on eBay! I was offered over £300 for it, just 2 days later!
