Again lower-grade, but everyone's got to have a Young Head Victoria Sov. in their collection. -
Nons "What crap has he bought this time?" Thread.....

Lol, brilliantly titled thread! Maybe a quid or two over, but a nice coin...what it's all about! It's low-grade, but pretty. For a few quid that's money well spent! -
That! C'mon, sort it out, J!
-
Sorry to pirate the thread just then! Just returning you to the front. There are plenty of penny boys here to answer thaaaaaaattttt.....abooouuut....now!
-
Ooooooh, just re-read my own post about a 1000 years of pennies! Who's going to take that baby on? What a collection that would be!
-
OK, look, I've been taking a long look at this coin again this morning, but on the laptop this time, and will concede to NEF overall, but obviously polished and retoned at some point, so worth peanuts to a seasoned collector. However, I'd still like to know the grade that CGS gave the other one, Paulus? Especially as this was the coin used to beat me into submission and force the grade of the other one down by a half-grade in my eyes!
-
Sugar? Blumen? Cracked me up! Great choices! Edit: can we have a Honey in there?
-
Well I think you could be looking a very long time to better that one! N--e C--n!

Hey, Pete, I don't actually think VS was referring to YOU personally as hollow...I saw it only as a little jab at the TPGC's elitism at using the term 'finest known' nothing more! We AND he, all know that the term is only meant to describe the best example stabbed by the company. Also I think asking to see the picture was a genuine request, it must be a pretty good coin, we'd all like to see it? Honestly, if you keep re-reading his post I think you will be able to see it a different way! Anyway, I thought you said you'd chilled out? Did you forget to breath out? C'mon, let's take a look at these two H pennies?
-
Nothing sophisticated at all, Paul, your's is clearly a better coin, and a far superior image! I'm guessing CGS gave your's EF? But then we are onto a different ball game altogether.
-
Even taking the polish out of this conversation, there is a massive difference in strike/die-wear and clogs - especially so between these two coins. Many of the components BELOW the traditional wear areas are also very muted on the OP coin...the feathers of the angel's wing, the feathering on the legs of the lions, etc.. Unfortunately your cropped images take the reverses out of context, as the rim on the second quarter, thistle and main crown on the OP coin are major considerations in deciding die-wear, at least they are for me anyway? Now, don't get me wrong, because I am not defending this coin at all, I most certainly wouldn't buy it, and wouldn't recommend that NM does either.
-
Deep breath and...out! Nice coin!
-
The reverse is considerably better! Look at the 'hip coil' on the angel, and the thistle for example? Also the rim in the second quarter? It's difficult to technically grade the obverse, as we are all pretty much agreed it's polished (possibly)! However, overall, taking the entire coin into account (not the eye-appeal, lustre or tone, or scratches), I'm still going with EF! BUT, that's not to say EF money!

Stewie watch out for a Scotsman after your Alex. Lovely coin. No, I'm not bidding on this one, but thought I owed the seller a little plug after giving him a postage scare (which was an issue my end, not his)!Pretty coin, though!
-
I eventually ended up opting for a white background too. And definitely a tripod! More important than the camera!
-
Touché Paulus! I do think it makes EF though!
-
I don't think the colour is really an issue, as it's not rainbow toning in the classic sense. I also think it may of had an obverse polish, with quite a few field marks, especially in the right field. Definitely an in-hand coin, and something you'd have to be 100% happy you could return without fuss or argument. I don't recognise the seller, so couldn't comment on his honour. Good luck, NM

4054A 1926 Penny of highest rarity

Hey, we've missed you on here! ? -
Now that's interesting, VS, as I see FDC as an uncirculated example of a coin in a near-pristine condition. To be more precise a coin that has miraculously escaped the digs and dings of the chute!
-
Wow!

It's because of Agincourt that my HK friend likes them! He admires the military brilliance of the occasion.

Not for your goodself I'm guessing Stu? I need a decent W3 Crown too so leave off please (seriously though if you let me know which lot number you may be bidding on (if any) I will steer clear) haven't had a chance to browse, yet, and no not for me! A nice W3 crown around the £800 mark is a little bit illusive. It's a price range where you can buy average or great, depending on the day, so I'm being patient on his behalf! H5 is no better or easier a find between HG and Penny!

I also think a full refund is more than reasonable, again IMHO! -

Hi Joseph! If a novice doesn't know his way around the mules (or otherwise) of this series, then he really shouldn't be buying them in the first place! It's one thing to intentionally deceive with a bit of spit and polish, or a shoddy photo, but altogether a different thing for someone to believe they have a variety and call it such. It is then for the buyer to do his homework and decide for himself. Probably not the playground of the novice...IMHO!
