Help needed with Error coins
Englishpicker replied to Englishpicker's topic in Enquiries about Non British coins
I showed this and another one to a friend of mine and he agree's with what you've been saying, but he did offer me $2200 for this and a 1963 double struck dollar. Temping but I think I'll keep them, I paid £52 for them both . -
Hi. I bought this at the weekkend from an old guy who was selling off his collection. Any ideas how this could of happened as only one side is doubled. The coin weights right, not magnetic and is the correct size and thus I'm 95% sure its not a fake. Also What would be a value on something like this, as I'm not sure if I paid too much. Thanks, Tom

Help needed with Error coins
Englishpicker replied to Englishpicker's topic in Enquiries about Non British coins
Thanks for your help. I think I'm going to get them graded. I just got to find a place in England that I can get it sent off to NGC or PCGS It won't let me edit my post, but if you do decide to grade it and sell it in the US, I'd only certify it through NGC, PCGS or ANACS. The other grading companies, although they might be a bit cheaper, and in many cases may be as accurate as NGC/PCGS/ANACS, it won't bring the extra money at a US auction than the "big names" will. -

Its ok guys.I'm sure you get asked the same questions again and again. I get the same on some of the antique forums,it drives me nuts! Well I enjoy collecting bits that I like and I haven't got £1000 to spend on top coin, but maybe someday. Places I love most are the bargin bins, lol I'm new to coin collecting business and so far it hasn't been very welcoming, if I'm honest. The 3 coins shops I've been to, have been the rudest, treated me like I'm a retard. With them having a massive power trip over the whole 'knowledge is power' thing.I just think that if coin coin collectors / traders want to keep the hobby alive and get young people such as myself interested, this is not the way. It was a far to exclusive atmosphere, so I much prefer buying coins at antique shops and shows. I'm in the east midlands and I don't see many coin shops and shows, but I will try and go to others and not let the others put me off. Sorry for the rant.

Thanks for all your comments guys. I have to say that I didn't expect the degree of harsness towards this coin.I'm a new collector and Its really all I can afford on my low budget and I'm happy with it. I'm not a true coin collector, I just like owning a few nice coins.

I'm always suspicious of "rainbow" toning - I just can't see how it can be natural? (I.e. with red yellow and blue all present). If yours had just been blue where it's toned, I would have said "great natural toning". As it is, it really doesn't look bad, in fact it looks nice, but.... And is there a huge gouge on the cheek? Its funny the bit on the cheek because it not damaged or gouged, it an area that is the natural silver colour and that hasn't toned?

Could this be a US 1944 D over S penny?
Englishpicker posted a topic in Enquiries about Non British coins
I'm just wondering if this might be a 1944 overdate D over S mint mark error coin. It looks like the ones in the cherry pickers guide but I'm not sure? -
Could this be a US 1944 D over S penny?
Englishpicker replied to Englishpicker's topic in Enquiries about Non British coins
Trouble of this it is impossible to tell minor die errors from dealers lists or Ebay. At fairs ditto with the hustle and bustle and suspect lighting. I take a good quality x7 glass.I also have those tiny x45 & x60 pocket scopes which have LED lights.(I bought 20 from HK)sold a few on Ebay to cover my cost & have plenty left...I may sell a few more but they are so handy...almost disposable. I got this coin from a mixed 50p per coin tub at a local antique shop. Only when I got home did I notice the mint mark error. -

Thanks everyone for your advice. I've cleaned it very carfully using soap and water and a cotton bud and it looks to be that it is. My loop is a 25x but I'm going to have to get a greater one if I'm looking for die errors ect. -
ERROR Coin- Half penny mystery 1947
Englishpicker posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Hi. I was going through some old pennies and half pennies that I picked up today and came across this. Wanted to see what you guys think. It got a ARG. Stamped in relief on the kings head and other lettering on the edge, aswell as raised lettering in another grove . Looks like another coin has be mashed on top of it a few times. The strange thing about it is that the .GRA appers on the geogre the 5th coin but this is a geogre the 6th coin. Any ideas...??? -
ERROR Coin- Half penny mystery 1947
Englishpicker replied to Englishpicker's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I suggest that someone has put the above coin and a George V coin in a vice and squeezed them together because the GRA is reversed incuse and so was done by something in the same vein as a regular coin. It would not have been done by the mint. Hi I thought of somethings like this, but some letters in indented ie below the surface ( explained by the vice idea) and some is raised up above the surface like a normal coin would look with the letters the right way round, just in the wrong place. And this would only happen if the thing that pressed into the coin was the reverse image, such as a dye. I mean the coins bashed to hell, It just puzzles me as to how this came about. -

Where are good places to sell coins that don't fit in with my coll
Englishpicker replied to Englishpicker's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Thanks everyone for there words of advice. As regards to the melting of coins, I've worked in the jewellery industry for years and have seen many coins sold to refinnery's and hatton garden scrap dealers~( not by me). Also have seen handfuls of worn vic 3d being melted for casting. Its one of the reasons why I started saving them, and I'd rarther have a nice coin than a lump of silver. Sorry about the rubbish pictures I put up. If you want to see better video's of the coins I get, see my you tube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/greenwooddesign As for my coins, I'll sell some at auction maybe and keep some of the more nice ones, Thanks guys! -
Where are good places to sell coins that don't fit in with my coll
Englishpicker posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Hello. I've only been collecting coins for 6 months and I many collect U.K and U.S.A coins. I am an antique buyer / jeweller by trade and I come across my coins this way. I've ended up with alot of silver world coins that don't fit into what I want to collect. Now with my contacts as a jeweller I could just sell the rest for scrap, but thats such a waste. So I would like to know if anyone knows of a good place to contact. There mostly European and middle eastern coins and most are in fine or better. I've taken some to see a dealer in Nottingham and 'coincraft' in London but they were quite rude or offered me well below half what I can get for scrap silver. I not looking to make loads of cash, just not have to melt, nice looking coins. Any advice or help would be great. Tom (English Picker) -
