Today's Spink auction - some interesting observations
Chingford replied to 1949threepence's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
The bids were coming from the Room in competition with the Internet, I thought it strange for a common 1826 penny to get so much interest at double book price, when it went further I assumed it was a Proof although not catalogued as such -

The CP1826 was probably a proof, the Geo IV Copper Proofs are extremely rare, the price is consistent with others that have sold over the last few years -

Rare Aquatic 50 pence copies
Chingford replied to Chingford's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Exactly the reason for posting, serves to help those trying to purchase a genuine coin not to get ripped off. There was one on Ebay using a photo 'borrowed' from previous genuine listing, ask Seller for additional images and be specific as to the image required, any Seller wanting to sell their coin will oblige, get no response or an excuse, leave well alone. Everyone is different, each will find a feature that stands out to them, for myself IRB on the Obv and gap between swimmers breast and waves on the Rev, -

Help for the digitally challenged please
Chingford replied to Rob's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
If something is reading your email address book, and sending out these emails, definitely a bot. I had a similar problem a few years back and changed all my email addresses by adding an asterix on the front of each, that renders the email address useless, definitely need to run Anti Virus, it should locate and remove the bot -

I would try running a anti virus like AVG, I have AVG and it has Computer/Web/Software/email platforms as well as an independent firewall, free to download trial account 30 days. It should pick up any anomalies and block any intrusion -
http://www.checkyourchange.co.uk/ The above site Lists all the coins you mention, and has images of each, I wouldn't think it would take long to produce a spreadsheet

Unfortunately no photos taken, I thought there would be restrictions so didn't take a camera and my old mobile wasn't up to the task, good to start a new thread, it is a very interesting tour finishing with a walk through a (small) museum at the end. Is it still the same £1 coin or are they different now, my images three posts up

I had a chat with the guy on the press, I asked about the set up, dies and pressure used, his reply was that it was a press used for general coinage relocated specifically for the visits, only one set of dies had been made, the striking pressure was reduced down from that normally used to prolong the life of the die and thought they would strike around 100k in total. Has anyone else been on the Tour, are there any other designs of £1 coin or other denominations that have been struck by Visitors there

The visitor centre coin is the old round type, different heraldic beast design but similar to the last coin released
