  1. Hello--I see where most listings have weights of Gb coinage in GRAINS...in order to not have to use my calculator with each coin, I was wondering if anybody has a small chart listing weights in GRAMS of the following coins(I am HOPING for counterfeits--evasive or not, I PREFER underweight coins!)Guess I need the Spink Book. My Collector's Coins Gb doesn't go back as far as I need. 1-G-I 1/4d 2-G-II 1/4d 3-G-III 1/4d ================ 4-G-W & Mary 1/2d 5-W-III 1/2d 6-G-I 1/2d 7-G-II 1/2d 8-G-III 1/2d ========================= IRISH Coins: 9-W & Mary 1/2d 10-William-III 1/2d 11-Woods 1/d 12-Woods 1/2d 13-G-II 1/4d 14-G-II 1/2d 15-G-III 1/4d 16-G-III 1/2d Thanks so much...will save a lot of hassles. Calvin
  2. Brilliant..thanks..I'll do that..I still need the "official" rough weights, I'm sure that's in Spink..I'm on it. Cal
  3. Well, it looks like the seller wanted roughly 170 DOLLARS...I was trying to get an estimate of value... I am sending the coin to Mr. Ken Potter, who does attribute world coins for varieties...hopefully, this overdate will get a new listing..will update when returned. Thanks for all help calvin
  4. I bought this 1755 Austrian 10 Kreuzer at my local coin shop today..if features a 1755 date, with a very obvious 4 underneath the last 5..packet states this overdate un-recorded..curious if this may be so, and, perhaps worthy of obtaining a new discovery coin listing? Thanks Calvin G.
  5. 6. If anyone can find the price for this, I would certainly like to see...in 3, 4 grades..my specimen should grade about VF range..I do not have a pricebook for this coinage, so, the help is much appreciated..Why one person puts it at 16k perks my interest, certainly...it's a professional site, and long-time dealer, there is no reason to super-inflate things...even if mine is in the 4-5k range, I would be quite happy. Cal
  7. I FOUND an EXACT Match online, poking around...remember, my LEGEND is FRANCO, NOT Maxmillian...ANd mine has an overdate, unlisted...WHY is this seller listing HIS SO HIGH please? I'll stay calm for now... http://www.moneta.at/product_info.php?info=p193_Franz-I--10-Kreuzer-1755-Graz.html
  8. I am confused with this 166??? William & Mary Irish 1/2d...weighs in at 5.57 grams, but the lettering and overall look leads me to think non-regal counterfeit..opinions welcomed.. Thanks Calvin G USA
  9. Ok--at least I'm not seeing double..that was in the "old days"..after a few too many pints...
  10. Thank you..am I seeing things..are there NOT 2 heads obverse, but 1..I know rough condition. Thank You Calvin
  11. I'll be darned...so they used the harp instead of britannia so-as to not get their heads cutoff, eh? Thanks for the help..much appreciated. Calvin
  12. I have a few coins I need ID help with..the first is an undated Irish halfpenny..weighs in at 5.09 grams..unsure if Token, or, non-regal, due to odd lettering......opinions always welcomed! Second coin in next post. Thank You Calvin G. Calif USA
  13. Sorry, this should have been in the Non-British section, where my other posting is..maybe the moderator can move it for me. Thanks

  17. Hello--I have a big new interest in Contemporary Counterfeit coinage of both the UK(as it relates to American Colonial usage), and Spanish/Mexican coinage, again, relating to use either in America, or, in Country of origin..The Reales interest me highly. I'm posting to ask if any members know of any older books, publications, periodicals, special bulletins, etc..that may help me in my passion for fakes I did pin down 1 article in the 1974 Numismatic Chronicle, by Terry, K.W. & Laeter, J.R., Titled "X-ray diffraction analysis of grain size as a method of detection of reproductions among seventeenth-century Spanish silver reales"...if someone has this copy for sale, or, would like to copy just this article, and let me pay to have it sent here(California/USA), I would appreciate it. And, if any other articles from years by from this publication may be of interest, please advise..somehow, I need to find a Master-List of what has been published in those documents, over the years. I have a gentleman in New Jersey who uses the X-Ray Machines to anaylize fakes, and, he has been mentoring me along...the learning is off the charts, and, very exciting.. So far I have about 7 good-specimen fakes(not modern, or fantasy) in my collection...I know Seuk in here is very helpful, if I spelled his name right. Key words: Evasive Non-Regal Contemporary Counterfeit Simulated Fake Forgery Altered Colonial Thanks so much Calvin G.
  18. I see a seller has a so-called "mule" undated 20 Pence in XF condition...curious how uncommon these are, and, worth a purchase? Thank You for your time Cal
  19. Poking around ebayUK, I see these 2 listings..nothing matches up, and, I assume these are "New" Counterfeits? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WILLIAM-IIII-1837-CROWN-COIN-/180784293572?pt=UK_Coins_OtherBritish_RL&hash=item2a179566c4#ht_500wt_1202 =================================================================================================================================== http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1823-KING-GEORGE-IV-COIN-/180784387702?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item2a1796d676#ht_500wt_1202 Thanks...seller on posts to UK..if these may be of interest, as fakes, and, I should want to purchase them, what to do? Cheers Cal
  20. I'm in California...thanks for the advice...I'm learning...you folks are saving me a lot of headaches, and, $$$$$$$.... What I've decided to do is for each denomination, make a short type set...it will include the first and last date coins...it will be a good, slow educational experience, and, I can fill in from there...some coins will be 1 of each Emperor, and, very simple.... I have to admit, the counterfeit bug has hit me, and, that is another area of interest, as long as they are "contemporary", and not modern fantasy crap. As far as California goes, right now in a major dry spell...this is usually our wettest time of year(last year about 35 inches of rain)..temps today near 68 degrees, with no rain in sight for 10 days... Back to coins now..thanks again Cal
  21. I have an 1862 Penny I may purchase..my question is the number 1, in the 1862...it seems to be missing the upper left serif. Might this be of interest? Thanks Cal http://www.ebay.com/itm/World-Coin-Great-Britain-1862-One-Penny-Bronze-Queen-Victoria-KM-748-2-/250960158760?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a6e642028#ht_4246wt_851
  22. Reading my Freeman, page 107, it states the 1949-51 Half Penny has the 1 in date position L of T(tooth)..on my specimen, it seems Directly on top...am I seeing things, or is this an anomaly? Thanks Cal

    Counterfeit Coins?

They are modern concoctions, make no claims to be fakes, or genuine. They are just a pair of obverses and reverses combined to provide gullible consumers with something that they won't be able to sell easily in the future. The 1823 obverse doesn't even look real. Pence, not pounds should be the real price and I would recommend you avoid them. Thanks Rob..I was learning die pairings, and, these caught my eye, as they did not match...had a feeling they were modern, now I know..I DO like contemporary counterfeits that are legit...and old...these are pretty terrible...at least I spotted wrong pairings, and asked before foolishly buying, hoping for "gold"!!!! Cal
  24. I found this in a lot of coins recently..of course it is nearly worn beyond recognition, but my curiosity about what this possibly may be won't stop...weighs 5.96 grams, measures 7/8" in diamter..not sure if the edge is just been "hit" from age, or, a hand-hammered copper. Thanks Calvin
