    CGS v LCGS

I'm using the free version v3.7 and I see none of this Edit: Well I'll be b******d! I've been using this for at least five years and never spotted that. Beers all round.

How do you do ½° rotation on Photoscape? I've been using it for years and never spotted this feature.

Coin Conservation / Restoration. Is it cleaning?

I do degrease some items if they are for my own collection, but not sale stock. Here's a recent purchase, before and after a drop of lighter fluid.
  5. I've had this piece for years and every time it gets dragged out, my opinion changes. At present, I think that it's a counter. Other times I think that it's a sadly defaced farthing. 22 mm, 4.52 gr.
  6. Without diving through lots of boxes at this time of night, I know that I have one or two of (probably) the first picture. Your third coin is quite exciting to me. Chances are that it's a mule. The reverse as shown comes from a character known as Paul Pry. "Just drop't in, hope I don't intrude" features on a number of tokens and one or two medals, but yours is the first of its type that I've seen. Tomorrow, I'll try to find some of my examples.
  7. TBH, I think it's the quality of the piece that I find odd. Better than any other counter of the period that I've handled, and most of the farthings too.

    Encased Farthings

The Chelsea Hotel in that condition is an easy £25 at present. I've only ever seen one other Forsyth and my guess is that it's worth a lot more than the Chelsea. Five years ago encased farthings were £5-7, now there are too many people chasing them.

    Encased Farthings

These have become more popular recently, or at least the prices have risen quite a bit. You can also find encased US cents.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

At last, I can retire. I have wheelbarrow loads of this excrement a few but select pieces for the discerning collector.

There's a lot of them about. From everyone's favourite far eastern takeaway.

    Export License

Neil, if you're shipping out for a fair, with or without export licence, do you need to have an A.T.A. Carnet?

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

I like also that the seller is supposedly in the Netherlands, it's listed on ebay.co.uk but the postal details Posta Assicurata Internazionale are in Italian.
  19. Slightly off topic but the Victorians were inordinately fond of lacquering commemorative medals, particularly the white metal types. Today, these present as blackened lumps, most of which are resistant to alcohol and acetone. I did manage to clean one a few years ago, with Nitromors, and found a mint fresh medal underneath the crud. Apart from shellac, what other lacquers were available in the C19th?
  20. Sorry for the rough outlining but I think that these are the ports. Six of them.

    Coin identification

By the quality of the strike it's almost certainly a Dutch strike, maybe Cochin, which puts it before 1825.

Yup, they're all obvious and well known fakes.

  24. As a point of interest for anyone brave enough to try desoldering, a desoldering wick is easily made by stripping off the outer covering of co-ax cable. The woven copper can then be slid of the inner sheath and pulled tight until it becomes a wick.

I have my usual winter chest infection and shouldn't cough or laugh, but this listing made me do both. God loves a trier. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/50p-Royal-Badge/253383709834?hash=item3afed8948a:g:vtcAAOSw8i9aWNek
