OK, we probably all agree that a huge % of ebay is: 1) Sh**e 2) More sh**e, misdescribed 3) More Sh**e, knowingly misdescribed 4) Misdescribed through lack of knowlwedge 5) Misdescribed because "I Googled it and it's worf faaasands" At weekends, with a drink in my hand, I frequently put a snipe at "asking price" on 2) & 4). If I don't win, no sweat. But when I win, it keeps me in good brandy.

Can you identify this please ?
bagerap replied to secret santa's topic in Confirmed unlisted Varieties.
There a quite a few varieties, not all made by Grueber. Some have advertising reverses, Remington Typewriters for one and there's also a Big Wheel variety.. Also Australian and Canadian varieties. -
Short answer, no. But at the start of September I spotted that a lot of my sellers fees were out of scale. Messages sent to and fro, they know that I know. Still they overcharged me for September but reassure me that it is "being looked at". This from over a month ago " ........Fee for the listings and can confirm that, it is an issue known on site which has affected some of our sellers. You need not to worry for this, we have escalated this issue to our specialised team and they are looking into this on priority basis. I'm sure that it will be resolved soon for our genuine members like you and you will get the correct invoice (or credit) for the same." Not holding my breath on this one.

Does anyone have an interest in Religious tokens and medals?
bagerap replied to Unwilling Numismatist's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
I have maybe another 40-50 in stock plus the 30 ish in the shop which is about six months stock. So not a route to instant riches but it ticks over. -

The signature is unknown to me and I think that they look pretty rough. Modernism doesn't sell well in that market. It would be interesting if you could see what is stamped in the two cartouches. -

Larger would help a lot. -

They're a bread and butter line for me. When nothing else is selling, holy medals will always put a few bob in the till. Lat week was slow but I sold five. I've had to restock so much this weekend that half the items have no text, just pictures. https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/BAGERAP?section_id=18342460 -

Yes, that would indeed be me. -
The Dassier medals were/are frequently copied and reissued. My favorite were by Sir Edward Thomason, in lead. I have one somewhere and will post it when found. Good basic reference: http://www.historicalartmedals.com/MEDAL%20WEB%20ENTRIES/BIOSKETCHES%20AND%20OTHER%20TEXT/SWITZERLAND/kings_and_queens_of_england.htm

I was at King's in the late 60s but I imagine that you're a lot younger.

Here's the thing Rob. They're not trying to find advertisers. If you have good viewing figures with lots of daily hits, youtube set up the ads and give you a %.

"I don't know if its real or fake, so buy it as seen" one for the Repos thread too http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/COIN-FOR-SALE-UNKNOWN-QUICK-SALE/222667421020?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D47230%26meid%3D675f420a04d148fa803c0587dafed045%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D222667421020&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%253Aa7c99490-ab92-11e7-b0fd-74dbd1804cbb%257Cparentrq%253Af83b804115e0a9c4e2f79dc9fffb99b2%257Ciid%253A1

Probably a few of mine in there too John, but the first few were bloody hilarious.

This link doesn't go to a specific item, it's a whole page of completely bonkers Buy it Now prices. It must be a portal into a whole world of fantasy numismatics. https://www.ebay.co.uk/b/Tokens/58534?Period=19th%2520Century&rt=nc&_dcat=58534&_sop=3

I usually put Numismatica on the CN 22. Handwritten in shaky cursive script. No probs so far.
-
It looks to be a copy of a double sovereign which was issued as a cheap watch fob. St George & Dragon on the reverse. There's probably a flat spot above his head where the suspension ring's been filed off.

I have an idea that they are coming out of Russia. There's a seller I've mentioned before who has previously sold some worryingly good fakes, although he's currently flogging Third Reich and Stalin era fakes.

Conservation/Restoration Person Required
bagerap replied to Rob's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
Looking to be military, but for personal possessions rather than equipment. If it had the original hinges it would be easier to date. -

Interesting piece. Too small for a blanket box but seriously heavyweight timber used. As a suggestion, the top could be rotated so that the damaged section by the hinge becomes the leading edge. From that point it's not too difficult to trim and add a matching fillet of suitable timber, probably with a few biscuit joints. How do those front catches work? Is it just finger pressure? -

What sort of size Rob? Any photos. I'm time served as a cabinet maker but have not worked on the tools for a few decades. -
Post mint damage. Someone's hit it with a punch

My mate Gabbie Connelly was the bass player before they made it. He married Jackie and she persuaded him that becoming a milkman had better long term prospects. The Daily Mirror did a centre page spread on him around 20 years ago.

I've been away and so missed the dodgy "novelty" victorian pennies. I'm pretty much convinced that they all originate from a Russian seller on ebay. I managed to have him taken down for a few months but he's up again and still listing dangerously good copies.

Fully agree with MrBE on WoC for your coin. I have a feeling that it may be a debased Bull & Rider jital, which would probably put it a way before 1600.
