After some advice on a couple of purchases...1804 Trade Dollar, and 17
bagerap replied to evansuk2000's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
You've bought my favourite coin, the dollar, for a very good price. The weight linked to by Peck is overpriced, but yours has a chance of getting near that figure. I sold one privately in May for £65 which wasn't quite as good. -
In another section it says something to the effect that you only get one free pass per year. Finish any more sales early and you will pay. (Unless of course you're a huge revenue spinner, in which case - do whatever you want)

Not acetic acid. Can have a nasty effect on silver.

I've a suspicion that it's residue from some kind of sticky tape. Sometimes seen on the reverse of war medals that have been display mounted.

St. George and Dragon designs
bagerap replied to Exbrit's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
REALLY like that one Damian! This St George is based on a Mansfeld thaler of 1521. -
Chances are that's a gold plated centre piece of one of "Westminster Mint" or similar rip off efforts like this: Called History of British Coinage, it featured tired circulation coins, gold plated and mounted in a big lump of silver plated base metal. These guaranteed "collector's pieces" yours for only an arm and a leg. Done! You have been sir.

GB or Gibraltar?

Low mintage, but sadly only worth around £5.00, and that's in Bright Uncirculated condition. Gib just produces too many different coins.

And there's now a female version. And bloody uncomfortable it looks too: http://www.buzzfeed.com/juliegerstein/the-c-string-makes-the-average-thong-look-like-granny-pantie -
could i have a lead trial of victoria jubilee
bagerap replied to shanew's topic in Confirmed unlisted Varieties.
Can't see it too well, but I'm assuming it's the one with the small crown perched like a tea cosy. If so, it was issued at 75 mm in pewter, white metal and lead. Both lead and WM turn up from time to time as uniface pieces, and once in a blue moon as inlays in furniture, tea caddies etc. I've seen the remains of the lead piece set into a garden bench in St Helier many moons ago. -
The newest message of joy from Paypal: From 17th June, buyers are also getting increased protection; we're extending the dispute claim window from 45 days to 180 days after payment date.

LORD WARDEN CINQUE PORTS: REVERSE: The arms of Dover (ship, knight, castle). CINQUE PORTS TOKEN PAYABLE AT DOVER 1794. I'll see if my sis still has a copy.

I've never got started with hammered even though I studied Latin and Anglo Saxon. Doesn't stop me reading about the though. This link was put up on CCF, and I'm wondering how useful it would be to detectorists and hobbyists? http://www.psdetecting.com/Inscriptions.html

There's a famous photo of Keith in full nun regalia looking far from baby faced. Two days beard growth and a fine, fine doobie clamped firmly in his teeth. Viv Stanshall is in the background wearing lederhosen. A youngish me is on the right of the shot p***ing myself laughing. It was taken at a pub in SW1, possibly the Antelope.

When Will Politicians Learn?
bagerap replied to Rob's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
Is Europe our biggest market? When I was in the freight industry, it was a given that UK exports figures to Europe included all UK trans shipments to the rest of the world via Europoort. Does anyone know if this is still the case. The last statistics that I have (2008) show that 36% of UK-Eu exports were for onward shipping. -
Help With These Coins Please ?
bagerap replied to wendydjango's topic in Enquiries about Non British coins
I know from your other post that you're working on your pictures, but when you get to repost these it would be useful to have a really close shot of the reverses. Most Spanish coins of the Franco era have two dates. The big date which is usually the first date of issue, and a second date stamped on the tiny stars on the reverse. That is the actual year that the coin was minted. These appear to be 5 Peseta coins. The 1963 & 66 can be pricey in the higher grades, most other years are worth very little. -
If you post to certain countries, USA, Canada, Australia and possibly others, then you have to specify that you do so and tick the (chargeable) box for visibility on ebay.com. Otherwise your ad will not be seen in those countries.

Boot sale. I'd bought £4.50 worth of stuff, gave him a fiver and he had no change. "This any use?" he asked. Which was great, because I'd not noticed it before.

I've got some ropey Gun Money. -
I'm using ETSY. It's basically for craft sellers but there's a section for Vintage by which thaey mean anything over 20 years old. Insertion fees are $0.60 for three months, final value fees 3.5%. It's clunky to use and has size restrictions of pictures. BUT, think about it. You can leave something up there for a year for $2.40 so why not use it as a showcase. Ideal price range for sellers is £30-70, although I've had one sale at over £200.00.

I always offer the tracked & signed for option, but many buyers go for standard international post. One went astray in the US and buyer claimed non delivery and got a full refund. Usual story, I have proof of postage and an invoice offering a choice of delivery terms. Usual result, ebay gives refund but has yet to refund final value fee or paypal charges. My ebay bill for April: £387.34 Ebay fees so far for May: £8.83, and that's the last they'll see of me for a little while.
