O, just checked my email account and the hosts sell domains plus hosting for 0,99c a month, so i've secured www.classicbritishcoins.com after my good old mate Dave, I'm liking the irony of your choice. Lol, i was wondering when someone would spot it I've only seen the corrected signature. What did the typo say - "cons" instead of "coins" perchance? www.classicbritishporn.com

Will fake coins become harded to detect?
Gollum replied to coin watch's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
The next time a fake appears on eBay, one of us should put in a large bid to secure the item and a few others should report the item as fake. eBay will take no action and allow the buyer to become the proud owner of a worthless item. We could then sue eBay having incontrovertible proof that eBay allowed a fake to be sold. It seems that litigation and bad publicity are the only things eBay listen to. Whoever it was would have to have VERY deep pockets in case it went pete tong and got ruled against. When you have a cast iron case, they would settle out of court. But out of court settlements normally come with a non disclosure clause, and then they would hide it all. so no real benefit except in this case, you know they will just pay it and move on as it would be more profitable to them, much like the auto industry did, it is easier to pay out as cases come up than to stop taking revenue in the first place, especially if only the odd one or two sue. -

Hit the nail on the head. -
Good spot! This was typically the trend of the seller that had 2000+ feedback and sold the £2m worth of gold Kugers that didnt exist a few years ago. Thats the least of it. I would put him on a blocked buyer / seller list. According to toolhaus he has multiple feedback to the same multiple names as a seller and then the buyer. Truly arthur daley. http://toolhaus.org/cgi-bin/item-fb?User=tonting944&as_Seller=Seller&Limit=0&Search=&Check=Check

His feedback says a lot too me as well, over 73 with one buyer, 80+ from another and all his buyers seem to be multiples from many of the same names and I have never seen one seller have so many NLR's in their feedback either.

Erm that is a rolleicord V Peck, mind you I also have a number of Russki copies of the hass and other brands here as well. Oh and a number of them new fangled Yashica Mat's and canons and erm, yeah, enough !. What was the difference between the 'Flex and the 'Cord anyway? I never used any TLR except the aforementioned Lubitel, so I'm not an expert. What I do remember - and lusted after at the time - was the very nice little 35mm compact that Rollei brought out in the early 80s. My first 35mm camera was the Zorki 4 - a very competent imitation of the pre-war Leica III. No lever wind, no meter, and a shutter speed dial from hell, but a great rangefinder and some very good lenses. I still have it, and its standard 50mm lens (the 135mm and 35mm lenses must have got sold off years ago). The flex had better lenses, bodies, auto cocking and wind of the film ( cords had a knob to wind te film so was not as fast as a flex when shooting), the cords also had no metering on them and the view screen was not as good or clear. Other than that just personal preferences I guess, I like the cords as they are cheaper to buy, but if I was to buy a rollei and mmoney was not a thing I would have a flex, I have a small 35mm Rollei round here somewhere, and one of those russian spy cameras as well, though how a spy hid that thing I don't know, they aren't exactly small. I have to go in the loft this week to sort it all out for selling so will take some pics before I do. -
I don't know what is going on around Newbury, but there is a hell of a lot of new unc decimal issue around the town.

just the domain name first, when you get webhosting it wil usually be part of that package that you can set up an mx I do anyway, but I used to host my own sites for free with freedns direction and run my own mail server till BT got snotty about the open port.

Its something i'm definately thinking about, but not as anything for selling, probably on the similar lines what accumulator has done then perhaps sometime in the future eventually start selling. I realise it can be time consuming, but right now i don't think i have the nerve to sit here and plug away at a site, i spend enough time on the internet searching coins that if i spent even more time sorting a website that their might be a divorce on the cards (actually now i'm thinking about it) lol I have most of my pictures so far apart from the Pennies after my USB stick went tits up, i recovered most of it apart from the Penny pictures and will get around to redoing these shortly. So i guess design and style is what i need to work out, saying that though, i suppose a website would also safeguard the pictures i already have if the stick ever went tits up. So just to confirm, i'd need a domain name first of all (whats the cost of these and where do i i register one)? Then a webhost. I get mine from LCN.COM if its a .co.uk domain I get them for about £6 for two years, if you want a .com domain go to godaddy or such in the states and its a lot cheaper, I find that .com purchases in the uk are a lot lot more to buy.

Will fake coins become harded to detect?
Gollum replied to coin watch's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Seb, I noted all the above and will do as instructed regarding the settings, after posting I went and had a good in depth look around, I am glad to see that many of the sellers are selling their run of the mill circulated stuff for peanuts ( well lot lower than the 99p ebay minimum ! ) so that pleases me immensely, however I have one further criticsim, there is no shopping basket, I went into one sellers shop, saw a lot of coins I liked at 20-50p and decided that I might like to buy them as fillers, but it means clicking on each coin and then clicking buy, I find that a little annoying, can you put a shopping basket on the site please. So far contrary to my initial post, it seems a nice site apart from feeling clunky to me, that may be down to being used to the ebay format, I don't know yet, but if you can promise to keep the forgeries out or at least declared as such in their own section then we can have a happy partnership as venue and buyer. -

Will fake coins become harded to detect?
Gollum replied to coin watch's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Seb, sorry, I took a look at the site just now, and I find it very unhelpfull and clunky, not to say that some if not a lot of the coins I looked at are way to high in price compared to the same item on ebay, 1877 shilling for over 108 euros !. The format is, I don't know, chunky is the only way I can explain it, and I also do not like the fact that if I want to see a price in sterling I have to run and convert it. If I just happen to log in and find a coin I like that has seconds or so to go, I don't want to lose it because I have to do a conversion, i would rather see it in front of me in my currency and click buy fast. Having said that I registered out of decency for your posts and the fact I spotted a nice 1898 shilling after I said the above !. Next criticism. Why would I want to credit my account with £4 to become verified, my paypal account is already verified to me and my home address and that is how I pay, if it's good enough for them it should be goood enough for you. -

ESC vs Davies or Spink? Others
Gollum replied to Oxford_Collector's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
ESC is ok but I think a little dated now. The rarity scale is a fair reflection, though milled is not my thing now, but like the Spink price guide the ESC is only a guide too with regard to rarity, for example a few years back I owned a 1825 shillig with the roman I in date which is classed as an R7 in ESC...hmm R7 states one or two examples but I have seen probably at least a dozen the amount of these in the last decade...so worth thinking on!! Okay, will probably just stick with the Spink 2012 and Coincraft 1999 that I've ordered for now, and will try to "digest" these first. BTW I found the Introduction section of Davies very educational, especially the Historical outline, hope there's more useful background material in Coincraft and Spink, not just coin lists (though they're useful too, of course). Whatever else you think of Coincraft or their catalogue, there is a phenomenal amount of useful background information in there. Not just good articles as appendices, but in the introduction to each denomination and reign. It has the added bonus of recommending what grades are best collected in each series. It's a mineshaft of information. But which copy of coincraft is best, the latest ( 2000 ) or previous ones, not all newer versions of something are better than the past ones. -
