Very different grading of 1746 LIMA HC by (L)CGS
Paulus replied to Paulus's topic in TPG Discussions
That's ridiculous, here is my best, that I had graded by LCGS I could display the coins side by side, but the many differences are glaringly obvious (at least to me!). My coins was graded 1 notch better than the one for sale in the forthcoming auction (CGS 70 vs CGS 65). -
Very sad indeed, he will be very much missed

An early example of a coin to help the partially sighted? A nice neat coin purchased some time back from Coinery, just thought I would dig it up and wheel it out!

Charles I Crowns Civil War mints in Fine or better problem-free That's an example of the grade I am after, but, as with all hammered, they are all different - anything out there? -

Has anyone else been watching the new season/series of this BBC 2 comedy? In last night's episode, 2 references were made to a 'copper penny', although I don't think such a coin would have been circulating in England at the time (Elizabeth I to James I) - is that right?

Newbie Conder token -
I was after the regular variety, looked choice to me and I do not yet have a keeper Arabic 1 of the series. I have little interest in 'varieties' such as the so-called inverted 1

What did you win Mick? I was going for a very nice 1888 DF and wondered if I was bidding against you, but I believe you have a keeper already ...

Goodness me, Baldwins
Paulus replied to Coinery's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Out of interest, does anyone know if the graders at the big dealers and auction houses stay relatively unchanged for a number of years, and whether they are well-known and respected in the industry? Is Neil now grading for Baldwins as he used to for Colin Cooke? The only grader I know personally is the chief grader at London Coins ... -
I now use a totally free web hosting option (Wordpress) to store my coin pics (see link below) ... 3 gb upload limit All I need to do to post pics in here is to right-click on the image in Wordpress, select Copy Image, then Ctrl+V into here

It was when the value of the metal content was equivalent to the FV of the coin, but I don't believe that was the case come 1935? Much more work involved in changing the size of the coin (I would have thought!) Finding this a little surprising I must say!
-
Hense my surprise ... that would explain it, although I am surprised they varied the diameter instead of the weight!!!
-
I am surprised they are exactly the same weight?

Simon Willis often has some great coins for sale, but in all honesty the TPG grading of this one seems like a joke! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Victoria-Old-Head-Coinage-1900-Silver-Crown-S3937-PCGS-MS64-Choice-UNC-/172787889545?hash=item283af5f589:g:VVkAAOSwXY5ZSWXr

Fabulous coin Rob! Ignoring the rarity of the mm over-strikes, just a gorgeous coin, about time I concentrated on Tudor silver again
