Neil, I can assure you that Stuart (Coinery) is absolutely GAGGING to see a picture of this coin!!! -
I like it all, although how they could leave Gary Moore out of that history is a mystery! Plug In Baby was voted the best riff of the 21st century in some guitar magazine or other ... mind you the century was only 1 year old when it came out!

How To Run A Customer Caring Coin Business
Paulus replied to Colin88's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Yep, great to see you on here Neil ... coincidentally I received the September update email from your site earlier today, is there an easy way for you to highlight new stock into a summarised section (as well as it being highlighted in the full listings)? -
OK I shall come out now as a MASSIVE Genesis fan. For those of you who like the older stuff, and if you don't already know of it, I could not recommend this more highly: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genesis-Archive-1-1967-1975-CD-1998-/271280583442?pt=UK_CDsDVDs_CDs_CDs_GL&hash=item3f29953312 It has by far the best quality Peter full Lamb Lies Down Live, plus much else over 4 CDs. The kind of thing we tried to get as students as bootlegs but far better quality. While this one has by far the best live version of Ripples I have ever heard (surprising that it wasn't on Seconds Out), and is worth buying just for that: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genesis-Archive-No-2-Three-CD-set-with-booklet-/181222257259?pt=UK_CDsDVDs_CDs_CDs_GL&hash=item2a31b0326b Finally if you diehard Genesis fans haven't yet seen the Canadian tribute band 'The Musical Box' ... do. End of. http://www.themusicalbox.net/ http://www.themusicalbox.net/sebtp.php?lang=en Here is the link to the Ripples track, borders on perfection to me!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8hJOCEySHE *Headphones required for best experience

How To Insert Pictures Into A New Topic?
Paulus replied to ChKy's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
It is certainly possible to post pictures directly here - go to the Beginners forum and there is a 'pinned' topic at the top explaining how to do it. Pleased to see there's a pinned thread about it, Peck. I remember we discussed the matter and the different ways of posting pics here, a few months back, and I believe we concluded that the best way was indeed, copying and pasting the image link onto the post, direct from whichever image hosting site was being used. By the way, superb 1866 and 1902 sixpences above. Thanks '49, here's the obverse (it's also my avatar) as an excuse to practice this technique. Thanks Nick, Stuart and HC also, I don't mind people viewing my entire Photobucket library but pics without the links are definitely better! -

Pasting from Photobucket works the same for me as it did before, except that I do not see the inserted image(s) until I have submitted the post. I click in the IMG field and then CTRL + V into here: This displays the URL until I submit the post, and the embedded image thereafter. I hope that helps! -

Just had a quick scan of the CGS population report and there are some non-proofs with scores of 90+, but not that many. Thanks Nick, that's what I thought, also the fact that they use Proof coins as benchmark coins (where available) both impressed and generated some confusion for me! -
Cgs Rejects/coins Not Worth Paying To Grade
Paulus replied to rpeddie's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I think these two are a fair enough example of inconsistency 3711 and 12559. I don't mind the slabs, however I think I would be the same,if the slab costs more than the coin,it would probably be as nice in a shop bought holder, and the money could go on the next new addition. Very good example, to suggest that 3711 is a 78 is a little silly (from the photos) and it is clearly inferior to 12559 although both are graded the same by CGS. There may well be significant photographic differences that need to be taken into account, but here are the reverses for ease of comparison: 3711: 12559: It is almost as if in the early days they were learning to grade like a novice collector, and hadn't yet acquired a copy of 'The Standard Guide to Grading British Coins' ! -
Cgs Rejects/coins Not Worth Paying To Grade
Paulus replied to rpeddie's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
My first batch (7 coins last February) returned in 5 weeks and my second (9 coins in June), 8 weeks (although I did have a request that may have delayed them slightly). I would agree totally with your comments about the coins they graded in the first few years, inconsistent, poor photographs and generally not as strict as more recently. My personal opinion of their offering is currently: Positives a valuable service for authenticating English coins, especially those where forgeries are rife, I believe their reputation is fairly high in this area, and I have had a good personal experience with a forged coin which resulted in a full refund from the sellerhigh grade and/or rare English coins can definitely achieve higher prices in a CGS slab, sometimes MUCH higher prices. The few I have sold have achieved excellent prices, certainly much better than I would expect if sold raw on eBay.I like the fact that you can email/phone/visit them easily and speak to one of the graders looking at your coins (in my experience)Having visited them and spend some considerable time being shown their extensive 'benchmark' coins, grading and rejection criteria, and computerised scoring algorithms, I was impressed with the thoroughness and (potentially) consistent, if strict, approach, having bravely invented a new 1-100 scoring system. They were very welcoming and open and anyone can arrange a similar visit, free of charge or obligationNegatives (some of these points apply to TPG offerings generally) There is very little point spending £13 + 2-way postage slabbing a coin worth less than, say, £30, unless for resale with potential for recouping the outlay from a premium price, or unless you want your entire collection to be housed in boxes of slabsFor CGS, with less than 30,000 coins in their database their population reports are pretty worthless - I have 3 'finest knowns', only because they are the 'only knowns', and they are not that rare (the 1705 and 1707 shillings are 2 of them)Rejecting coins due to 'damage' such as flan cracks is a nonsense, and gives them a real problem with hammered, but they have set out their storeThey have a 1-100 scale, with a seemingly precise scoring system, but don't use most of the scores at all - for example, from VF - BU they only use (I think):40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 78, 80, 82, 85, & 88and I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong (Nick?)), to score 90 or above it has to be a Proof, which is pretty flawed seeing as Proof is not in and of itself a grade Once slabbed, the coins are difficult to re-photograph, so you are reliant on your own pre-slabbed pics or scans, or CGS' own, which on occasion have been sub-standardTheir value proposition has been compromised recently, when they upped their prices and increased the turnaround times, with no quid pro quo, or option for an 'express' serviceThere will always be the suspicion, at the very least, that there is a (potential - Chris) conflict of interest with London Coins, who have their coins slabbed by CGS, own 49% of them, share their premises (a glorified portacabin in a village in Kent), and (probably) share their staffI will use them again if I don't mind waiting, and want to authenticate or sell a high value coin which will sell at a premium if slabbed by them Bill Pugsley - please come back and join in! -

I am not interested in collecting fakes, but I would imagine that those that are, are interested in provenance, as in the authenticity of the contemporary status of the forgery?? It does baffle me why modern replicas sometimes fetch so much ... -
Does this bloke have any concept of English history? Did Henry V return from the grave nearly 30 years after he died? It's almost a numismatic version of 'Cluedo' - mix and match your description to suit the mood. I says it was Richard IV with a groat in Calais in AD950 wot dun it. Perhaps it's the unique Pattern Crown depicting the twinned busts of the Princes in the Tower with Lady Jane Grey and a Richard III (Leicester) Mintmark that they will put forward next ... I wonder how many of those still exist??

Or, better yet, why not ask what ESC rarities Saxby's can offer you? That is very tempting, I have the devil in me at the moment!
-
Such a relief, all my worries are over! After a year on half salary, and a big bill for ankle replacement surgery imminent, all I have to do to get back to normal and resume filling my Early Milled Silver ESC gaps is to buy from good old Saxby's and filter through DNW auctions et al! Result!!

Hi Just Wondering If Anyone Can Give Me A Rough Value For Silver Queen
Paulus replied to Nathan's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
If that is what you have Nathan then the scrap value would be calculated as follows: Assumptions: All 12 coins are Sterling Silver (92.5%)Silver price as at 19/09/2013 is $23.11 per troy ounce£/$ rate as at 19/09/2013 is 1.603* Grams per Troy ounce = 31.1 Then the scrap value would be: 362.98g/31.1*23.11/1.603 = £168.26 But you should be able to get more on eBay if as you say they are immaculate with the documentation I hope that helps! That much? If 10 are 31.47g of .925 then that's about £107 scrap plus another £17 for the lighter two. I was assuming 363g @ .925 -

If they have silver content certainly they can, are the 12 coins identical? Can you tell us what it says as to silver content and weight on the documentation? Welcome to the Forum by the way -
Azda might have some opinions!

It would be cheaper to have bought half of the DNW sale than get divorced and you can trust me on that one old bean! For future decision making on this, a quick Excel copy/paste reveals it would have cost over £800,000 for half the 2 day sale (including juice)
