  1. azda, i sincerely hope that you and peckris both understand that my posts were meant in good faith and also meant to differentiate between the bad that occurs on ebay, those you have highlighted as shill bidders, those who clearly sell the utmost of polished crap, designed to mislead, and the genuine dealer, whom may have had a difference in grading to personal levels. we may all disagree on grade of a particular coin at times with bona fida dealers, that happens, we have different ideas and ideals, different knowledge of a specific coin/dies....etc etc, but it sure must be difficult to be all embracing. azda....how many times have you come on here to ask for die pairings/references for a particular penny.....loads azda....how many times have you asked for a grading on a particular coin...................................loads does that make you or any other here better than CC or Rendell........maybe yes, maybe no. but yes it does make YOU and Peckris and CC and Rendell and all the others here far and away better than the those shill bidders, crap sellers on ebay...........and that was the whole point of my original post....... im gonna leave this forum now................theres clearly no place for a prick like me here. ski I wouldn't worry, ski. There will always be disagreements with people even in the most (normally) harmonious of settings. Doesn't mean they're by default right, and you're wrong. Sometimes they will be and sometimes you will be. Sometimes you will both be half right and half wrong. Whichever, it's not worth putting yourself down and leaving for, as it will all be forgotten in a few days anyway. If you have something to say, say it, and if it happens to upset someone, then tough do dahs. It's life, it's the way it is. You should see many of the comments made and insults exchanged on some forums. Makes the worst of what you see on here look like a Sunday School outing. That's the trouble with fora, a timid gutless coward all of a sudden grows a pair the size of watermelons as he sits at his computer 2000 miles away from the poor recipient of the hurtful dirge. As Mike said Ski, divn't worry aboot it marra. I've got skin thicker than a Rhinos arse so you or anybody else might get me revved up for a minute or two but after that I start to worry about more important things like "can Newcastle stuff the Toffees the day?" Not on this occasion, John. I was hoping they would, too. Pleased for Man City ~ was really Boys Own Annual stuff getting those 2 goals in injury time. On a sour note, I note that psycho Barton got sent off again, and hopefully will face a lengthy ban. Sorry to go off topic, folks The Mighty Mags came "unstuck" against the Toffees Didn't matter in the end with Arsenal and Arry's boys winning. Still a great season for us though. I think City deserved it this year and congrats to them. Barton.... "taxi to Broadmoor" That lad has totally lost the plot. I think Hughes will offload him (or try to at least) as he could have cost them about £95million if Bolton had got another goal. Will still have a bit of a chuckle if Chelski finally win their European Cup and "'Arry's boys" get demoted to the Europa League AbsaBleedingLutely!!!

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Be interesting to see where this ends up, someone is going to end up paying well over 3 figures for 2 George V coins, neither of which he (or she) has had sight of a photo or any information about the obverse (presumably!) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150812654778?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648#ht_500wt_1413

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Well the seller does say that it's a carefully crafted from a genuine coin by altering the date. Guess I'll go with that as an explanation. Surprised some people have bid it up to £29 though. No bids as yet! I hope no-one does, that's just silly!
  4. Yes, I've bought one coin from Michael, and I was very pleased with it, as well as the excellent service and attention to detail he provided. I'd also recommend Colin Cooke (Neil Paisley runs the concern now) Their prices are very reasonable. Also a guy called Richard Groves who is based in Scotland. He sold me a fantastic BU shilling for an absolute bargain price about 3 years back. Not to mention, of course, the excellent dealers on this site !!! Indeed, our very own Red Riley (Derek) of Penny Crown Coins has a 1902 GEF florin for £70 ~ reduced from £80 here Does Richard Groves have a website?
  5. The 1663 shilling I asked for opinions on the other day was Michael Gouby, he seems to grade and price fairly to me. I have also been slightly unimpressed with Ringram coins on the same criteria. I quite like the Coin Cellar ... and of course our Rob and Chris! That's all the dealers I have used so far (I think), except those that sold to me via flea bay.

  7. I personally prefer this one, depending on what it sells for: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Edward-V11-One-Florin-Two-Shilling-Coin-1902-UNC-/320901316261?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item4ab7357ea5#ht_500wt_1413 Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I know, the BIN one you have posted looks cleaned ans not quite as tasty to me!
  8. Just upgraded my GF to this, not seen better so very happy!
  9. I am after your expert opinions again, I am considering buying this (from a dealer). What do you think of grade, and is 215 GBP a fair price? Thanks for any help
  10. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300700398273?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648#ht_500wt_1413
  11. What is this and why the high price, any ideas? I thought it was a bulk standard SSC shilling in fine ... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270968440591?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648#ht_500wt_1413
  12. I had the misfortune to purchase two forgeries in January this year, the only two as far as I am aware, please don't assume that all my purchases are dodgy, this one was from a very reputable dealer!! But if you are asking I will have the crispy duck
  13. That's just cruel, Peter. Nice 1904 florin, Paulus. Thanks Nick and Dave, and to Peter, anyone else want to make a stab at a grade? Very well struck.I couldn't give it UNC because it has dipped its toe in early 20C life....but it would get ef+ money. Paulus if you want to sell forget those 40x face adverts for pre 1920 there is a man here offering 50x That would be a fiver then, I would, but I have only just bought it and need to recoup the p&p!

    Should i sell my collection

have you ever played the part of a policeman in "allo allo"...????............... RATFLU!!
  18. That's what I thought .... It was graded as a forgery by CGS and I am awaiting a refund, fingers crossed! At least now you have peace of mind, see how this forum works. And now you have the stisfaction of going back to the seller AND auction house and kicking some arse.....Good result for you and those who actually spotted it. Well done the forum. If in doubt, it always pays to ask questions first rather than lose later....Well done people. Absolutely, not quite a result yet though and it has gone strangely quiet! I was going to wait until refunded before announcing it ...

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

    Almost very fine. Apparently. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KING-GEORGE-II-SILVER-SIXPENCE-aVF-/251046080778?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item3a7383310a#ht_500wt_1413
  21. Bit lazy I guess, but does anyone have a link to a diary/calendar of events for this year?
  22. Perfect, thanks Debbie
  23. A model of a Cromwell halfcrown surely ? How else could it be so much smaller than a bronze penny? That'll be because the bronze penny (as featured on the front cover of the Spink 2012 catalogue) is greater than life size. Ah! As a non-owner of the latest Spink it would explain why I didn't spot it as a picture. Also, it's unusual for Spink to feature more than one coin on the cover. Are there any doubts as to its authenticity from the pic, and if not what's a good price do people think? Twice bitten! Paulus at risk of causing offence to you and many others can I just point out (again) that there is life outside ebay. Try a genuine dealer or an auction house and at least you will have some form of assurance that all is well (and no I don't have a Cromwell halfcrown for sale). I have no reason to doubt that the coin is genuine or that the sale is also genuine but I would just like to draw your attention to the fact that it is on a private listing, which leaves you wide open to shill bidding. Good luck. Absolutely no offence taken and I won't be bidding, it is already too rich for me! As I understand it, shill bidding will only catch you out if you end up paying more than you originally intended, or more than it is really worth, have I got that right? Far from an expert on these matters and value your input as always!
