    New lists

They are difficult that's for sure. How would people rate this low tide halfpenny?
  2. David at ABC has some new stock, well worth a visit ,, http://www.abccoinsandtokens.com/ I have cherry-picked four, including a Suffolk with you in mind Peter and my first Croydon Tea Rooms (my home town)
  3. Nothing apparent to me either, looks absolutely fine ok from those pics. I am going to theorise / speculate - and that is all it is - I have heard there is normally only 1 grader for the US TPGs, and they bang out many per hour. Perhaps the grader on this occasion was not used to that particular portrait of George (which I think is unique to that series) and was less than diligent? If you want it re-slabbed, LCGS would do so without issue I imagine, as they are now owned by the auctioneers ...
  4. Demand and supply all the way. Supply is either well-known or at least fairly fixed, until a new hoard is found. Demand is subject to all sorts of factors, some of which are referred to by earlier posters. Sometimes the 'going rate' for the 'only known example' of a particular coin can be less than similar examples of which there are several known examples. I often think ALL wreath crowns are way too cheap (except 1934 perhaps), given the mintages - the demand must not be there, whatever the reason

    My Latest Acquisition

Good one Mick, what gaps do you have left for 1888?
  6. Possibly reluctant if it has a yellow 'reject' label, but yes he should

How Are US TPGs with English Coins?

A CGS 65 would only equate (approximately) to MS60-61
  8. Paulus

    Mr

    Maundy money perhaps?
  9. The question for me is more why US collectors haven't been paying the sort of prices for choice 'historic' English coins that they would pay for arguably less ""historic"" US coins - they have a strong connection after all. I suspect it may come one day ...
  10. Any date and variety will do, needs to simply tick the grade, eye appeal and problem-free boxes. However a 10 minute search reveals nothing that appeals, and I'm amazed at the grades given to some for sale, e.g. http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/?page=retailv2_details&uin=0028683 Really? That's choice UNC? Put me back in my box! Any spares @Peter?

    Mr

Indeed, just trying to get to the bottom of it, it can't be 1570 and REX, and the stylised 7 can look like a 5? Let's see what he says ...
  12. Paulus

    Mr

Hi Steve If it says 'REX' it has to be a king, so it cannot be 1570 or 1870, just wondering if it loooks something like thsi?
  13. I don't believe you can return a coin to an auction house just because you don't agree with the grade, but I could be wrong?

How Are US TPGs with English Coins?

Thanks for the really interesting replies so far @Nordle11, could you move this to the TPG discussions section when you have a moment?

    LCA December.

Presumably as a result of Nick pointing out the fake when I posted my new acquisition pics (thanks again Nick, I hope I thanked you at the time as well!), I contacted Chris Taylor (Buckscoins on eBay) - he had bought it at LCA - and he apologised, said it was 'embarassing' and immediately refunded me. He was taking it up with LCA of course.

    LCA December.

I was going to mention these two as I bought one of them from Bucks. The die axis is 180 degrees out.
  17. Mine, to my mind problem-free?
  18. Fabulous looking coin Mark, I don't collect these myself but you should regard Rob's comments as very encouraging indeed
  19. Can I add some fields in addition to Jaggy's suggestions that I would like to see? Sold to Date sold Net Sale price If bought through auction, additionally (auction house would be the seller): Lot number Hammer price If slabbed, the name of the TPG For me, provenance would be a (large) text area field to type in details of previous owners and sales of the coin Are any number of images supported, together with image captions? Is it available as an app on smart devices? Does it have a web front end with a web site to publish to (so I can share and view from any on-line device)? Thanks, Paul PS I would be happy to trial it and give feedback, is that is of interest
  20. This case is definitely an exception, I will go the highest thus far and say 8k! It has such cache
  21. In previous posts about provenance, and how much of a premium members of this group might be prepared to pay for it, the responses have generally been along the line of 'a little but not much' ... obviously it depends on the coin and the provenance, and in some cases (crucially) where it can prove authenticity, but normally I would not expect provenance alone to result in a massive premium?
