  1. PR65 at a stab from me ... although I didn't know there were proofs for 1939!

    1920 Florin wanted.

Is this of any interest? They seem impossible to get in a decent strike/grade combination!
  3. 18th Century version of "gotta be in it to win it"

    eBay seems fishy.

Hadn't spotted that, you ID'd it already I'm hopeless with non-English! So quite possibly it's ok then ...

    eBay seems fishy.

Matteo makes a good point, as ever supply and demand determines the price. You can pick up genuine Roman coins for very little, there are so very, very many around! And as it's an auction, the current bid is not a good indication of the final price. Anyone know what it is?

    silver dipping

Definitely not for the bin, I don't think you will find anyone on here saying that (except in jest) Very gentle soap and water, tamping down, pure acetone with a cotton bud possibly, but the key words are 'little' and 'gentle', if at all!

    eBay seems fishy.

The words 'eBay', 'total beginner', 'medieval coins', and 'nice coins for not too much money' are sufficient for me to recommend some research before diving in ... Not my collecting focus but I would be very surprised if this is a genuine item! Having said that I have no idea what it is!
  8. My favourite toning on your recently posted OH shillings so far Nick

  10. Very often we are basing our decisions on images of coins. I would like this topic to centre around how we present our coins, and what to look out for imagery-wise. I'll kick off with a question, what grade would you assign to these coins based on the pics alone?
  11. I actually think the DNW auction pics are pretty good. On my PC, using Chrome, if I click on the image to zoom, and then double-click, I get this:
  12. Yes that annoyed me too, losing all the coins in my cabinet. The blown up pics work well for me though, bigger and not blurred - can you give a lot number by way of example?

My first batch of coins to CGS

My view is that yours may well be a better grade than Nons @ozjohn, as we all acknowledge it's hard to grade from the pics alone, but very often that's all we have to go on! To throw this in to the mix, here is my 1911 PROOF half crown, graded CGS 92
  14. I agree, it also now appears to have some 'life' to it, keep going!

Thanks Jaggy, it means a hell of a lot that others on here rate my efforts! I have some way to go to get to BRG standards but steadily getting there I think! The 1902 matt proof half crown, really pleased with the Rev of this one:

Yes, I'm obsessed, I know! New camera from Coinery, and I think my best yet pics of the difficult-to-capture 1902 matt proof crown

    My Latest Acquisition

No, you're getting there for sure!
  19. Again as a comparison here is my 1826 half crown, bought at Spink auction last September and described as EF, which I agree with
  20. Paulus

    My Latest Acquisition

EF all day long on that 1935, for me
  21. Demand and supply as always, with many variables affecting both

How scarce are GB 1925 & 1926 halfcrowns?

'Forum God' is automatically applied to your profile after a certain number of posts, and should certainly not be taken literally (except for Rob!) I am not a 'half-crown specialist', but here is my take, for what it's worth ... published mintage figures indicate how many coins were manufactured in that year, not necessarily how many were manufactured with a particular date on the coin there are 2 main types of 1926, neither of which are particularly rare (third coinage - aka Modified Effigy being slightly rarer) I'm surprised you have found many 1925's, especially if some are high grade, these are genuinely scarce I believe
