Mid 70s to mid 80s were my main concert going years, never saw Rush but pretty much everyone else I wanted to, great times

Classic prog rock for me, but also like the supergroups you mention Would love to know the dealer, give us a clue!

Happy birthday!

Ebay, if you're patient and invest the time! Maybe it's the pics, but I would at least expect the lions to have faces! @Nonmortuus

British penny sells for $179,000 in California
Paulus replied to OldCurrencyExchange's topic in Free for all
All the serious UK based penny collectors will have been aware of this sale, the $ vs £ rate may have affected the UK bidding slightly. I thought it would go for far more. -
These are so common in high grade that you should be able to pick up a better one for under a tenner, based on those pics - sorry! At least it wasn't a big purchase!
-
If those are the seller's pics then probably the seller has enhanced them, happens all the time
-
It's personal preference, but evidence of cleaning kills the eye appeal and value for me
-
I don't think it's bad form to talk about prices paid, or where you go the coin from at all - in my view that is a platform this forum provides! Only need to be careful about inaccurate claims, opinions are fine and welcome in my view! I'm not trying to dodge your question on price, just that I don't tend to look at lower grades much these days, especially those showing some evidence of cleaning. In my honest opinion I would have thought £50 would be a fairer price.

I couldn't grade that higher than GVF personally, and I do think the hairlines affect its value, OH crowns are getting harder to find and very expensive in GEF+, I'm struggling to get a type example I am totally happy with. This is my best so far, looking for better (graded as aUNC by a TPG who's name I can't mention for fear of psychological consequences)

I agree with Dave. Probably the artificial light in the second pics is using standard incandescent bulbs, while daylight LEDs may be better

I'm not a gold coin collector although I have a handful, but I must admit I thought the gold content was over 90% (22/24)?- 20 replies

Possibly Overgraded halfcrown?
Paulus replied to Conor44's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I agree but reluctant to name and shame in case of repercussions to be honest! Just one bad experience, and not too expensive, but it was enough! Mine was just a low value coin, a G3 graded as EF that was more like nVF, an early mistake. -

Welcome back Mick! What do you still have and what are you going to be focusing on acquiring?

Royal mint commemoratives

It's sad but I don't even think of modern non-circulation decimal stuff as proper coins any more -
Echo that

Was postage on top? Very common and lots of wear for the issue ... again. ask opinions before you commit
-
That looks a very nice example, but why not check with the members on here BEFORE you buy? How much did you pay?
-
I think you did ok on both, but will be wanting to upgrade some day. That eBay seller does picture his coins to the best advantage, I hope you are pleased in hand All the jubilee regular 1887s are affordable in the upmost grades, problem-free with eye appeal and toning if desired
-
Who was the seller? Some play with the pics before listing, as you might imagine. I link all my pics from an external source, in my case my Wordpress web site, but you should be able to get good jpegs at under 500k to link directly ... there are restrictions on how many to link in a short time period though I believe £38 was just below what I would expect, given the scratches. so good deal. But get a problem-free example!
-
That's a nice example UIS, great eye appeal, a couple of digs or scratches on the neck, otherwise aUNC for me - good pics too!
-
I'll take that please Stu
