  1. Classic summary of the current fiasco!
  2. I have spent many many hours trying to come up with a set-up that results in more life-like coin pics, I'm reasonably happy with them now. For indoor photography one of the improvements was to start using LED DAYLIGHT lamps. This useful article set me off in the right direction: http://coinimaging.com/photography.html
  3. If it is 296 it won't have any edge lettering
  4. Lovely coin Matt, here's my somewhat poorer example from a later year, which I believe to be D&H 398: Check what (if anything) it says on the edge, mine says “PAYABLE x IN x LONDON x OR x ANGLESEY x”
  5. Filling my gaps with examples that meet my ever increasingly high criteria is getting harder and demanding more patience, upgrading existing examples slightly less so, but still requires discipline. What are your main focus areas?
  6. Bump - Jamie is still after one if anyone can help!
  7. Welcome Jimmy I have brief periods of up to 2 weeks or so when my interest wanes, largely because I haven't the funds to upgrade or fill gaps, or the energy/time inclination/to sell some that don't fit for various reasons, in order to generate funds. I've been collecting seriously for about 8 years and find it harder and harder to find examples that 'float my boat'. You having posted on here tonight is hopefully a good sign
  8. Hi John I think we should start with the best pics you can take, welcome to the Predec Forum!
  9. I'm exaggerating (hopefully!!). They do seem to be taken extra long during this period of CGS business model uncertainty, I know a few people who are waiting longer than is usual ... They have attributed as above and taken pics so far:
  10. Yes it is. Still being graded so it will be a few more months before we know their grading verdict! CGS variety 06, UIN 39472, looks like this will be the 2nd one to be processed by them
  11. CGS have decided my 1854 penny is variety 'D of DEF over a lower, broken D'
  12. George dressing up as a Roman emperor, having been attacked by a swarm of bees
  13. Sanity has prevailed, contrary to all predictions. Belief in common sense has somewhat returned
  14. Welcome to the Forum Mark, this place adds another dimension to the hobby in my view Here's an interesting old sausage, albeit fairly common
  15. It shows up as you liking it 1949
  16. What are the odds that if it looks a little too close for comfort, some ballot papers will conveniently be deemed spoiled, or lost?
  17. I have won 3 coin auctions at Catawiki over the past few weeks and I'm happy to report that in each case the experience was a very good one, coins matched the grade given and the description, and I am very happy with them in hand. I haven't had to return anything as yet. I also listed a coin for sale recently (although it did not meet its reserve) and got to communicate directly with Declan over the listing and how the site operates. Let's hope they can sort out the photography side of things

    Coin Pics

Looks good but hard to tell without something to compare it to - do you have pics from earlier attempts, and does the colour in the pic accurately represent how it looks in hand (in the same lighting)?
  19. A crown (25 pence) in 1887 is equivalent to £29.50 today, based on RPI. Did 1/2 sovs and sovs 'circulate' much I wonder?
  20. No not Maundy, currency (i.e. regular circulation) 4d, 2d and 1 1/2d - as Rob says, the currency 2d exists only for 1838 and 1848. Plenty of dates for the other 2 denominations.
  21. I have done the same with Victoria through to George VI, always gets a nice reaction!
  22. Oh, and threehalfpence (1 1/2d) as well!
  23. You are also missing a circulation fourpence (groat)
