  1. Not sure how much interest there is in these (unless they are stunning high grade lustrered examples), but bought this iconic Iron bridge token this morning (seller's pic, mine to come)

    MS 64?

Not blaming the seller at all, certainly questioning the TPG grading! (and the price for yours was just silly! )
  3. Paulus

    MS 64?

Good God no, what does MS 64+ mean anyway, 64.5?? Look at the wear to the ear, moustache, beard, on the in-focus pic ... more like NEF on the obv from that pic
  4. I would plump for AUNC Andrew

    LCA March

Is there going to be carnage gentlemen?

    LCA March

    Brilliant, thanks Pete @Nonmortuus

    Henry VII Tentative issues

Thanks Rob, guess I am just hung up on the word 'tentative' at the moment! They are not at all scarce it seems ...

    1860 farthing - obverse 2 or 3?

Looks like you have transmogrified into mrGOODexample!

    Recent aquisitions

Respect Peter, been a while since you posted a new acquisition, that looks a beaut at a great price (less than £39)!
  10. My first attempt at piccing the 1891 through the slab
  11. Many fools ... despite the warning comments!
  12. Thanks Bob, I'd better get me one of those!
  13. Just acquired my first high grade bun penny from Pete ( @PWA 1967) ... an 1891 Gouby BP1891AB graded and slabbed CGS 75. As indicated (by Pete and others) it is much better than the CGS pics suggest, so very pleased. I may try and take my own pics through the slab ...

Sorting my stuff, and an introduction

Like Colin, I use Lighthouse albums with 2x2 adhesive flips, together with a small percentage that are slabbed and in slab boxes holding 20 slabs. These can be locked away in my safe, and it is partly for this reason that I haven't gone for a cabinet (security). I like quality wooden furniture and I have plenty of room for a cabinet. If you are happy with the security aspect regarding your collection, I would go ahead with this one-off purchase - you can also get trays custom made with holes of the diameter you might prefer
  15. Blimey that's interesting Kal, I wonder if there is an alternative theory?
  16. Thanks Pete, I'll take you up on that, email sent
  17. Sorry if this counts as yet another penny thread (which I guess it does), but as a type collector, focussing mainly on milled silver, I also want some examples of other denominations. So my question is, without relying purely on the price guides such as Spink et al, what years are the best to get a type example of an EF+ copper and a GEF+ bronze Viccy penny (with some/much lustre)? To clarify, I am NOT interested in rare dates or varieties ... And if anyone is awash with duplicates to sell that fit the grade, are a fair price, and have no problems, please PM me My only example at the moment is a 1901 with some lustre, too embarrassed to show it though
  18. Would people agree that this is 9 over 9 (Davies 89), not listed in Spink or (old) ESC?
  19. Your 'hit rate' seems amazing to me George3, are you posting these as you discover them? Also amazed at how you seem to be able to identify them, are you sure this isn't an ancient Aztec fire alarm?
  20. Thanks for the heads up bhx It is certainly cheap at the moment, but bear in mind that this is an auction with 5 days to run, no telling where it will end up!
  21. Paulus

    Hello again!!

Hi Colin, great to see you again, and congratulations!
  22. I totally agree - I asked half-jokingly because there was a post quite recently of a TPG assigning 'something over inverted 6' when the known variety was 'over 9' - from memory I think most agreed it was almost certainly a straight forward 'over 9', as I believe this one to be. Can anyone tell me if this variety is now in the new ESC?
  23. Thanks Stu, just wanted to give you something other than pennies to look at! Not 9 over inverted 6 then?

    Mynki's purchase thread

Here's some responses to the same question on the CoinsGB Forum back in 2007: http://www.coinsgbforum.com/?showtopic=162 I would imagine that's the same 'Rob' as we know on here!
