I am ashamed to say that I lost the ball on this one, guess I was too attracted by it's eye appeal. I already have a (very slightly) higher grade of this type, but it is slabbed, and stored in a different place to 99% of my collection, so I bought another one!. So I give members first refusal on this, PM me offers if interested:
-
I have now taken my own pics. The faint lines on the obverse are die flaws, not scratches.
-
lol, ok Dave ... well, some of you got the Viccy half-crown spot-on, and everyone was close - 80 (Choice UNC) The proof crown, 85 (Choice UNC - BU) But in their infinite wisdom, CGS have rejected the GEF (IMO) GIII crown as 'Re-Toned' - quite how they determine that I have no idea! Booo.
-
I was just teasing Scott, it most certainly does!
-
Not if you want to sell it!
-
I know this is bad of me in a sense, but Neil, nF, really??? link
-
Scott, yes this was an eBay purchase, would it fit in with the rest of your collection?

aEF on the 1873 shilling for me

I will post their grades after a few more members have had a chance to guess, but one of the reasons I like to do this from time to time is that it helps to establish whether CGS grading is 'predictable'. We all have concerns over the consistency, accuracy, strictness, vested-interest-ness of TPGs, every little helps - this is not of course, to any degree, a 'quantitative' analysis!. Nick is correct with the 1 + A for the 1887 ('lace open at front of veil')
-
No nicks that I can see, must be something on the CGS pic. Here is the auction pic: Apart from the inexplicable spot at 4 o/clock on the CGS pic, the CGS pic is considerably more attractive to me than the (DNW) auction pic... photos are everything when it comes to distance selling!
-
Thank you Stuart for even clicking on the TPG thread! Yes, I'll be keeping that one (and I won't have to worry about paying silly prices for a 1934, like those silly date collector completer types have to!)
-
CGS grade on their own (unique?) scale of 1-100, with MS64 being equivalent to CGS 80, so I will take that as your guess!
-
Third (and final) coin:
-
Second coin, had to get this authenticated given the high quality Chinese stuff that's about, grade guesses?
-
aUNC IMHO ... Fred is it?

I use a pretty simply method of embedding Photobucket (PB) images in this Forum: In PB, under 'Share Links', with your image displayed on its own, click inside the 'Direct' box - PB will say 'Copied' In your Forum message, click on the 'Image' icon and paste (Ctrl + V) the URL and click OK This is quick and straightforward to me, and it doesn't link people to your PB! Clicking on the image simply pops it open in its own small window

I have a mint, genuine, 50 Trillion Dollar bank note - any offers?

A very warm welcome Hazelman! This Forum is particularly great for its expertise, honesty, and frequency of posts and replies, in my opinion! For shilling varieties I would recommend 'English Silver Coinage since 1649' by Seaby / Rayner, and 'The Identification of British 20th Century Silver Coin Varieties' by David J Groom (a member on here) And I wish you all the luck in the world, do you have a 1905 shilling you are happy with yet? -
As Rob says, the photos aren't that great, but my grade based on those pics would be no better than GVF. The 1787 shillings and sixpences, with and without hearts, are very common in high grades, and 'relatively' inexpensive. Please feel free to run potential purchases past the forum members before you buy, I know sometimes you may feel there isn't time to do that, but you may be surprised how quickly we respond!

If only ... it wasn't bent and didn't have a bite out of it ... but then of course it would cost a lot more ... link

Thanks Richard, probably top of my list for this year is a quality milled Liz I or Chas I ... English though ...

I expect it's one of these, sold at London Coins Auctions recently: Auction 146 Lot 1694 Fantasy or Imitation Una and the Lion a massive 85 mm diameter weighs 288 grammes and 9 mm thick BU and eye catching, in a presentation case -
