Paulus replied to Paulus's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
They are now unleashed on the 99p start eBay auction market, for what it's worth my guesses are: 1817 £140 1821 £190 1823 £130 The fact that they are CGS slabbed should at least prevent any disasters -

I'm still recovering from ankle surgery and the cost of that plus reduced income is partly why I am selling some coins -

Jeez, Anyone Bidding?

I am sensing that this is a great time for collectors, buyers, sellers, dealers and investors, the market feels so buoyant! -

A sub-£100 coin Rob going for £25k +, is that right? Like I said I have no idea, but if what you say is true that is very extreme!!!! -
Jeez, Anyone Bidding?
Paulus replied to Paulus's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
At various price points there seems to be some irrational upward pressure on realised coin values at auction in the last few months, in many if not all markets, I could very well be wrong ... any dealers care to comment? I have no empirical evidence, just a sense of increased demand and price inflation? Happy to be shot down! -
In my very limited experience (just over 5 years), that is one of the best tips you will ever receive

Does anyone know whether it is possible to embed a 'direct link' to pics on One Drive (was SkyDrive) into posts on this Forum? i.e. the kind of link where the photo appears in the post without readers having to click anywhere. I am hoping so, because uploading to OneDrive is so much quicker and easier than Photobucket, or similar free online photo hosting sites I have tried. Google searches haven't revealed the answer so far ...

Jeez, Anyone Bidding?
Paulus replied to Paulus's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
My comment was merely that this was the highest priced coin I had seen sold on eBay, probably not a record though, and that for zero cost eBay have a very nice commission on it! Any take on whether the buyer got a it for a good price, I have no idea! -

One of the biggest eBay coin sales I have seen, and maybe (?) shows that specialist items can be sold through this channel, I have no idea whether the price was a good one for the buyer or seller though ... it sure was for eBay! -
Nice coin Paulus! Thanks, that one won't be going any time soon, even when I pare back to one nice example of silver milled per monarch! Ticks all the boxes for me!
-
Yeah, don't think it works, I like to show my coins in the post like this!
-
I love Declan's suggestion and 'homework'! Knowing how to grade, and what appeals to you are key, I think, but starting from zero you might be amazed how many 'decent' coins you can get for 50p to £10 even going back 2000 years to Roman times! So dip your toe in the water at minimal cost with a range of coins, reading, and coin fairs, would be how I would do it 2nd time around. I made a few mistakes at first as do many/most, and in a sense that is part of the fun, but you don't want these to be too expensive! I think there is a fairly regular coin fair in Harrogate, the next one being 2 weeks' time, and probably the nearest one of note to West Yorkshire: 21st - 22nd March 2014 Swan Road Harrogate North Yorkshire HG1 2SR Oh yes, and there's Wakefield as Peter just said!
-
No sorry if that's how it reads. The value as is now £110. My point was it should not make a difference to customer service whether the coin is worth X amount, but they have missed out on my future dealings as it could of totalled to the £1000's.If you want Bill to read your post it might be better to PM him you complete initial post as this will go to his email I noticed Bill was logged in to the Forum yesterday ...

Fantastic, thanks JPK, I had been told that it 'commemorates' the 'rape of the Sabine women' by Roman soldiers? Where would be the best place to sell them and what would be their approx value, any idea?
-
Thanks JPK, I have that as S 456 seeing as it's pictured in Spink! what does AR mean, silver? Looks like I have pictured the reverse (?) upside down! Just over 2,050 years old!

Pop 'em up here. We'll do our best. I have some experience with Roman though far from expert. Okay well I have 2 silver Roman coins, they are both the same size. I have a few ideas about what they are, but I won't say anything about them, I'll just wait for any comments! 1st coin:
-
I have tried that, that's when I get the error. That is the method I use for my pics on Photobucket, just that it seems a more long-winded process with Photobucket.
-
It works fine for me, have you put the photo in your one drive? Yes, and I get a msg that the file extension (png) is not allowed on this forum, the same file works from Photobucket. To be clear, I want the pic to appear embedded in my thread, without anyone having to click anywhere
